NXT TAKEOVER: RESPECT TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson and Richard Trionfo on 2015-10-07 13:05:41

World Wrestling Entertainment presents NXT Takeover Respect on tonight on the WWE Network. We will have full coverage of the broadcast here on the site. Here is our take on what will happen.

NXT Women's Champion Bayley versus Sasha Banks in a 30 Minute Iron Man Match

Dave: Unlike the recent WWE PPV fare, I am very excited for this show. It's amazing what good, logical booking will do for a product. This match should be great and I expect it to be. Both women don't have anything to prove, but I expect them to do so anyway. They have their last match to follow and I expect them to be up to the task. From a booking standpoint, it would make no sense for Sasha to win so I expect an very close match which Bayley wins by one.

Mike: They will never have more pressure to perform than they do tonight, but the great news is that they are the best in-ring talents of the women's division in WWE. Even better, since fans are so heavily emotionally invested, they will be able to physically do less early on and get a great reaction out of it. That should mean they have the chance to tell a great story exchanging holds as they build to the finishes. I can't even begin to tell you how much I have been waiting for this NXT Brooklyn was made by their match. This is going to be something special. I expect Sasha will look great and vicious but Bayley should get the miracle come from behind win to save the day and be victorious.

Richard: These two women deserve to be in the main event of an NXT special and I do not think they will disappoint. There are a few ways that they can do this match. They could have this match go to a 0-0 tie at the end of thirty minutes and then go into a sudden death overtime. They could have a number of falls during the match but end up tied and have to go to sudden death overtime. Or they could do what is not usually seen in these type of matches, a dominating performance by one of the wrestlers and a big victory over the other. In a way, I hope that we see Bayley get a convincing victory. If they do consider a tie, I hope it is spelled out that it will lead to an overtime, which would work better if we had a heel champion so they could not coast if things are tied towards the end and a tie without an overtime. I would also expect to see a lot of strategy and logic in this match. If there is a submission early in the match, will they tap out to save themselves for the rest of the match instead of risking further injury by fighting through the pain. My biggest fear about this match is the way it will be perceived by the people who expect a 15 star 25 on a ten point scale match as missing something. I know I will enjoy this match and I think Bayley retains. Maybe we see some other people coming back to challenge for the title in the future along with the likes of Asuka and Emma in NXT

Samoa Joe and Finn Balor versus Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder in a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semi-Final Match

Dave: This is a TAG TEAM classic. I think HHH and his team get that in this scenario, the team should win. Plus, there are a lot of storyline options that can be done with Joe and Balor.

Mike: I am REALLY looking forward to seeing Dawson and Wilder getting some well deserved spotlight. Dawson is like Arn Anderson and Jamie Noble had a baby and I LOVE his work. I can't see Finn Balor and Samoa Joe not getting the win here, but my hope is that Wilder and Dawson get to have an old school match where they cut the ring off and really show what ring generals they can be, I suspect Joe gets the win.

Richard: I think this is the hardest match on the show to pick. If you want to highlight the tag teams, you should have Dawson and Wilder get the upset. I think at some point during the show, we will see some sort of tension between Joe and Balor that will lead to the NXT Title Match in December in London between the two. Dawson and Wilder are fun to watch if you are a fan of the tag teams of the 80s and they do a lot that reminds me of Blanchard and Anderson. Since they already beat the tag team champions in a non title match, a victory over the Heavyweight Champion and one of the top wrestlers would be a good way to legitimize Dawson and Wilder as the number one contenders after the tournament ends. This reminds me a lot of the way that people usually discuss the conference championship games in the NFL where the NFC title game is usually expected to be better than the Super Bowl. Welcome to the NFC Championship Game. Wilder and Dawson win and the seeds for Joe and Balor are planted throughout.

Baron Corbin and Rhyno versus Jason Jordan and Chad Gable in a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semi-Final Match

Dave: I see tension between Corbin and Rhyno costing them the match. Neither guy is a tag wrestler so I would rather see them out before the final.

Mike: This is an interesting one as it's a rare heel vs. heel bout for NXT. My heart says Gable and Jordan get the win because they "need" it more but I can also see Corbin and Rhyno going forward as they make an interesting match for Joe and Balor. My hope is Gable and Jordan as they are onto something fun and have looked good in the ring. Jordan is one of those guys who has been waiting patiently. I hope that wait is over. This could be really, really interesting to see who ends up being the babyfaces here. I also wouldn't be shocked to see this end up a double DQ match and the other bout in the tournament being the final since no one would see it coming,

Richard: I would not be surprised if the team that I think will lose this match ends up wrestling each other in the next two months, whether it is in London or as a main event of an upcoming episode of NXT Television. This is another match where I think they need to give the established team the victory over the thrown together for the tournament team. Jordan and Gable are very good in the ring and are establishing themselves on promos. I think the teamwork between the two will be enough to allow them to advance to the finals.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals

Dave: Dawson and Wilder win the tournament.

Mike: I really think Joe and Balor will end up winning this, but I also suspect that they'll end up feuding coming out of this. Joe's teased his interest in that title subtly in vignettes, so we'll see whether I am right or not.

Richard: I think this will be Wilder and Dawson versus Jordan and Gable and it should be a real fun tag team match with each team trying to show why they are a better team and to honor the memory of Dusty Rhodes. I don't think they need to worry about not having the name wrestler in the match for the casual fans who are checking out the special because of the focus on the main event. As a 'semi main event' this is the type of match that people expect good things from and then get twice as much from the final result. I think they appear to be priming Jordan and Gable for something good, but with that victory over the Vaudevillains, a victory by Dawson and Wilder would give them the ability to tell Aiden and Simon that they have a win over them and the Dusty Rhodes Classic Trophy.

Asuka versus Dana Brooke

Dave: Asuka should win. She worlds better than Dana (and there is no disrespect meant there). She has the IT factor and could be on the main roster in a hurry (now whether that is good for her or not is another matter altogether). I could see a debut similar to the one Apollo Crews made for Asuka.

Mike: The most logical thing here is Asuka kicks the hell out of Dana and gets the win. That said, WWE doesn't always let someone new come in and steamroll the competition and Brooke losing clean would hurt the momentum she has built for herself. I can see this ending up a DQ when Emma gets involved to set up Asuka and one of the babyfaces aligning. I am hoping Asuka doesn't fall prey to the problems transitioning over to the WWE style, something that even hampered KENTA initially.

Richard: Asuka should win her NXT debut. The big question is how easy the victory will be and whether we will see any sort of shenanigans from Emma to try to help Dana. While Dana has shown some improvement in the ring, she is not at a level where she should be considered a serious challenger for the Women's Title. I am a little surprised that they had Dana be the first victim for Asuka instead of Emma. I think Emma would give Asuka a better match. I have the same concern for the people who I think will lose these last two matches. Will a loss, no matter how competitive, hurt any short or medium term status for the wrestler. It appears that the WWE has high hopes for Dana so I don't think they are going to doom her future in this match.

Apollo Crews versus Tyler Breeze

Dave: This should be really good. Crews is the guy that is trending upward right now. I expect a showcase where both men look good and Crews gets the win with some of his spectacular moves.

Mike: This should be very good. Breeze can go and is a hell of a character. Crews is pure energy in the ring and is likable as a new upstart. I don't see Breeze getting the win here but can see him laying out Crews after to kick off the next chapter of this feud. Expect some nice dives here.

Richard: Since this show is now two and a half hours, I hope they will give this match enough time to showcase both men. Knowing what Crews dd on the independent scene, I see a huge upside for him but by putting him in four to seven minute matches does not help him with the casual fan. I think if they don't give him longer matches, he will fall into the Bull Dempsey/Baron Corbin category in the eyes of casual fans who will not expect anything from him when he is supposed to have that long match. Crews will win the match because of the undefeated streak. Breeze is very consistent in the ring, but with the amount of time he has been in NXT/FCW, do the people in Titan Tower think he has the upside to go to the main roster or does he become an NXT lifer?
