BROCK'S RETURN ON RAW, CHAD GABLE, JOEY STYLES AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-10-03 10:00:00
I like Brock Lesnar. And I get that he's an "attraction." But doesn't Vince realize announcing Brock for this Monday is part of the problem, rather than the solution for his ratings drop? Sure, I would imagine there will be a spike in the rating for Monday. But it seems likely the following week will drop, maybe even lower than last week. Because Brock is a bandaid. Not a cure. The only way to cure the problem is to start presenting a weekly show with intrigue on the level of a one time Brock appearance. To me, I would think promoting a WWE title match and actually having the title change hands on Raw could signal a new era for raw moving forward. I love Seth, but switching the title to Ambrose, Wyatt, Owens, Cesaro or someone else young and up and coming in the main event at raw could set a new tone and send a message to fans "hey, we get it and we're working on it." A Brock appearance, while nice, is not a long term fix IMO.

It doesn't matter honestly. It's not going to be something that is an immediate fix. They have to work out a plan for long term and hope they can bring people back gradually. Whether it's Brock or a quick title change, there is never a magic bullet for such things that can save the day overnight.

I assume NXT's Chad Gable is using (or was given) that last name because of his strong amateur wrestling credentials? Any idea if WWE or the wrestler reached out to the legendary Dan Gable before using the name? Dan Gable was not a fan of pro wrestling in years past, but I believe that stance has softened in recent years.

Obviously, the name is a takeoff of Gabe. I don't believe he has any real say in the matter nor has he changed his stance. It should be noted that the Dan Gable Museum in Waterloo, Iowa does have a wing dedicated to professional wrestling.

Did I really just watch a September 2015 RAW show where Big Show destroyed one of the best wrestlers on the planet, John Cena pinned the world champ cleanly for the 2nd night in a row and masked Kane used attacked someone by coming up through the ring with cheesy effects thrown in, to close the show? I've seen these movies before. I turned the channel before the end.

Yes you did. What did you switch to?

To your knowledge has WWE signed some sort of a promotional deal with the AARP? I got to wondering after watching night of champions with Jericho & Kane returning on the same ppv. Sting main eventing. And now I'm sure we're heading towards Kane (vs Rollins) and undertaker headlining next months hell in the cell ppv. On a separate note, WWE really is doing a tremendous job building new stars... I, for one, was elated to see that kid John Cena finally get the break he deserves by winning the US title. Finally, the champ is here.

Not to the best of my knowledge, but they did just sign a Pez deal!

Where's Joey Styles?

He works on WWE's website and occasionally voices over old ECW material for Network and DVD use.
