9/8 THIS DAY IN HISTORY: BRIAN 'MARK CURTIS' HILDEBRAND PASSES AWAY

By Mike Johnson on 2023-09-08 08:00:00

September 8th

On this day in history in ....

1948 - Japanese star The Great Kabuki, who also had runs in World Class and Mid-Atlantic, among other area, is born.

1950 - Verne Gagne defeats Miguel Guzman in Houston, Texas for the NWA Texas Heavyweight Title, ending Guzman's fifth title reign, and beginning his second run with the belt.

1964 - Former ECW World champion Scott "Raven" Levy is born.  Levy also worked as Scotty the Body, Scotty Flamingo (in WCW) and Johnny Polo (in the WWF) over the course of his long career.

1967 - El Mongol defeats Mr. Wrestling for the NWA Georgia Heavyweight Title in Atlanta, starting his fourth run with the belt.

1967 - The WWF ran Pittsburgh, PA at the Civic Arena featuring the following results:

-Ace Freeman defeated Frank Allman.

1972 - Former WCW star Lodi is born.

1979 - Intercontinental Champion Pat Patterson defeats WWF World Champion Bob Backlund via countout in a rare champion vs. champion match in Springfield, Massachusetts.

1982 - WWF ran Kittanning, PA with the following results:

-Salvatore Bellomo fought WWF Tag Team Champion Mr. Saito to a 15-minute time limit draw.
-Bob Orton Jr. pinned Pete Sanchez at 10:34.

-Swede Hanson pinned Charlie Fulton at 7:35.
-WWF champion Bob Backlund pinned WWF Tag Team Champion Mr. Fuji at 18:00.

1983 - Stan Hansen defeats Giant Baba for the Pacific Wrestling Federation World Heavyweight Title (now part of the All Japan Triple Crown) in Chiba, Japan, ending Baba's third title reign.

1986 - WWF ran Tacoma, WA  at the Tacoma Dome with the following results:

-Billy Jack Haynes defeated Nikolai Volkoff.
-Mike Rotunda defeated Jim Neidhart.
-Tito Santana defeated Bob Orton.

1991 - The National Wrestling Alliance officially strips Ric Flair of the NWA World Heavyweight Title, two days before Flair makes his WWF in-ring debut. World Championship Wrestling had stripped Flair of "their title" back in July, when Flair could not come to terms with WCW for a new contract. This would cause the splintering of the WCW and NWA title lineage.  The vacany would not be filled until June 1992, when Masahiro Chono defeated Rick Rude in the finals of that year's G1 Climax tournament, with the belt on the line.

1999 - Brian Hildebrand, better known to fans as referee Mark Curtis, passes away at the age of 37 after a battle with cancer. Hildebrand was one of the backbones of Smoky Mountain Wrestling, and went on to work for WCW after SMW had closed. Hildebrand, who worked with Mick Foley and Shane Douglas early in their career at Dominic Denucci's gym, was considered one of the classiest people in the business.

2001 - Arashi & Koki Kitahara defeat Shigeo Okumura & Nobutaka Araya to win the vacant All Japan Pro Wrestling All Asia Tag Team championship.

2002 - CZW Fake You TV aired on TV-48.  Phil filed the following TV report:

Combat Zone Wrestling Fake You TV
WGTW in Philadelphia
9/7/02

Segment #1- CZW Fake You TV begins with The Messiah cutting a promo saying he is back and has not forgotten about any of his obstacles! He said the future is his and no one can do anything about it.

Segment #2- Justice Pain says September 14th CZW will show everyone what they are all about.

Segment #3- The New School (Chri$ Ca$h & GQ) (with Jimmy Washington) confront Rick Feinberg until they are stopped by Eric Tuttle & Hurricane Kid who save Feinberg. On their way back to the dressing room, The New School walk into Sonjay Dutt & Derrick Frazier.

Segment #4- The Rachies (Danny Rose & Adam Flash) are involved in a segment with The Irish Drinking Team (Ian Knoxx & Chris Stylz). I was distracted during this segment but it basically sets up their upcoming match on 9/14.

Segment #5- The New School (Chri$ Ca$h & GQ) (with Jimmy Washington) vs. Sonjay Dutt & "Pure Impact" Derrick Frazier vs. The Super Heavyweights ("The Towel Boy" Eric Tuttle & Hurricane Kid) (with Rick Feinberg) in a Three Way Tag Match. This is a three way tag team match involving six of the young stars of CZW. CZW does a good job of promoting young talent as is proven in this match. Chri$ Ca$h has a lot of personality and The New School show a lot of promise as a team. The match was sloppy at times but that is expected with 3 young teams. It was still entertaining though. A lot of high impact spots in this match. The New School were victorious with a combo maneuver I am not going to even try to describe.

Segment #6- Zandig cuts a 'backstage' promo with Wifebeater and Nick Mondo after the Tournament of Death on 8/31/02. He says everyone who competed was a winner and if you want to be a winner, you compete in CZW or you are not a winner. Zandig says he does not who care who runs their the first Saturday and he does not care who runs the fourth Saturday, but you show up on the second Saturday and CZW will be there and they are the best. Nick Mondo says that no one tells them they have to do this stuff (death matches), they do it because they want to and no fed is better than CZW! Big Mack Smack talks for Wifebeater and says "you people need to stay out of our house, that is our house, C-Z-F***ing-W!!"

Segment #7- Justice Pain cuts another backstage promo to introduce himself to those who don't already know him. He says the CZW Title means the world to him. He talks about the open challenges he's had the past 2 months so anyone can come and try to take the title, but a bunch of bums have been sent his way such as Billy Fives from Florida. He dares anyone to come and try to take the title. I wish someone would come and take the gum out of his mouth while he talks. God that's annoying! He's begs for anyone to come give him a challenge and a fight. He says "you know who I am talking about old man, I am the new F'N Franchise! I am tired of being compared to some old man, because I have talent." Two XPW references in the last two segments. They are sure trying hard to give XPW more recognition. WWF never made references to WCW during their little war. It was WCW making all the references and people talked about how bush league that made them seem. CZW really needs to stop with the XPW references and concentrate on their own product on TV. Damn, someone get that gum out of his mouth! Pain finishes his promo by saying "So like I said, you come try me."

Segment #8- VD (Eddie Valentine & Jon Dahmer) vs. The Irish Drinking Team (Ian Knoxx & Chris Stylz). Eddie Valentine is one of my favorite workers in CZW to watch because he is a good wrestler. But there were a few missed and/or slow spots in this match too. The Irish Drinking Team's gimmick is pretty funny. Since they are 'drunk' they don't feel the pain of a lot of the moves. Dahmer dropped Stylz on the back of his neck with a suplex and Stylz jumped right back up. VD had some miscommunication on a spot and started to argue as Ian Knoxx came in to revive Stylz with alcohol. The Irish Drinking Team then executed The Aftershock on Eddie Valentine for the pinfall. Dahmer shook Knoxx's hand and told him "good match". John House made reference to Dahmer training Ian Knoxx at the CZW Wrestling Academy. Eddie Valentine cuts an in ring promo saying it took two of them to pin him and challenges any one of them one on one. He says if he wins, The Irish Drinking Team member he beats must go without alcohol for six months. Chris Stylz says they will accept, but if one of them pins Valentine, he must leave CZW. Ian Knoxx says that since he was trained by Dahmer and Valentine, he wants the match, which leads to ....

Segment #9- Ian Knoxx (with Chris Stylz) vs. Eddie Valentine. If Dahmer wins, Knoxx can not drink for six months. If Knoxx wins, Valentine must leave CZW. Knoxx press slams Valentine which leads to Rick Feinberg (now doing commentary) to say "looks at that well muscled young man!" Eddie Valentine does a Hakushi rope walk leading to a bulldog off the top rope. The crowd is totally behind Ian Knoxx in this match. Knoxx chokeslams Valentine off the top rope. Stylz gives Knoxx a drink which fires him up. Knoxx blocks the palm strike and executes a fall away slam, followed by 'Tapping the Keg' but Valentine kicks out. Knoxx sets up four chairs in the ring and signals for the Drunk Driver, but Valentine flips through and hits him with the Palm Strike. Valentine then slams Knoxx face first through the four chairs. Knoxx still manages to kick out at two. Valentine gets two tables out from under the ring and throws them into the ring. He stacks the tables and puts Knoxx on top and climbs up after him. Knoxx reverses whatever Valentine was going for and hits the Drunken Driver through two tables for the pinfall. Eddie Valentine must now leave CZW forever!

Segment #10- Adam Flash (with Danny Rose) is interviewed last Saturday after the Tournament of Death. Flash mentions how Messiah beat him, but it wasn't for the Ironman Title. Rose and Flash talk about their match with The Irish Drinking Team on 9/14 and say that Stylz was trained by two chubby dudes in PA ... The Nasty Boys. The Rachies say The Irish Drinking Team will have their asses handed to them "and Messiah, we give you two thumbs up!"

2002 - WWE broadcast Velocity.  Matt Zylbert filed the following TV report:

WWE Velocity
Hosted by Mark Lloyd and Michael Cole

Writing's excellence of execution is back for another go-around. Hello all and welcome to THEE Velocity report of all Velocity reports. I am your low-card-loving reporter, Matt Zylbert, and THIS is the 'five-star' 1Wrestling.com Velocity report that will always beat the odds. With another edition of Velocity ready to take place, let's send it down to TONY THE CHIM for our opening bout.

Billy Kidman vs. Albert
As usual, it looks as if Albert is going to kick off another week of Velocity, and if history repeats itself, this should be another loss to a Cruiserweight for the hairy one. Albert is pretty much 0-for the year against Cruiserweights not named Funaki, so let's see how this one pans out.

At the start, Kidman fights his foe with all the punches and kicks he can dish out, before being knocked down with one hard right hand from Albert. A boot in the corner later though would give Kidman a chance to take control, but unfortunately for him, Albert would corral him at the top, before executing a modified backbreaker, and we're right in on Albert's squash offense. I love squashes, don't you? Meanwhile, on commentary, Michael compares this match to David vs. Goliath, and then says how Billy vs. Rey Mysterio from Smackdown was also in that comparison. Excuse me a second, but HUH? First of all, I don't think anyone considered Mysterio an underdog, and second of all, I don't think it would be a big surprise if Kidman actually won this match. Is it that Michael Cole likes to make an idiot out of himself? Geesh. Back to the match as Albert takes his time while delivering some knees to the mid-section, and then he slows it down even more with a choke using the boot. Kidman makes another attempt at a comeback with some punches, but gets rammed into the corner for his troubles, and now Albert is back in control. He executes a double underhook suplex for a near fall, and then goes to the Cranium Crunch. Shades of Crush! After slamming his adversary on the canvas from the hold, Albert now gets Kidman up for a powerslam. However, the former Cruiserweight champion would wiggle free, and then drill Albert with an enziguiri. He would follow up with a beautiful tornado DDT from the second rope for a two count, and in the crowd, I notice an "I Respect the Undertaker" sign. Don't even get me started on that right now. Concentrating on the match again, Kidman connects on a top-rope missile dropkick for another close two count, and then he would head back up top. Unfortunately for him, Albert powerslams him in mid-air, giving him control back. He then goes for my favorite move, the "I-Really-Really-Like-To-Scream-Very-Very-Loud-When-I-Ram-People-In-The-Corner" squash. Well, Albert MISSED it as Kidman got out of the way, and then tries to follow up with a roll-up. Albert blocks it, and then gives Kidman a free ride to the top rope. That would turn out to be a mistake though, as Kidman fights him off with some punches, allowing him to perform a top-rope sunset flip... for the three count! After the match, Albert goes into sore-loser mode, attacking Kidman from behind. He slingshots him into the second rope, before putting the cherry on top with a bicycle kick. Can you really blame Albert though? The guy does countless jobs  to Cruiserweights, and even worse, he just jobbed to Mark Henry last week. Now there's the root of his frustration, and THANKFULLY, Michael Cole did not blame it on Ruthless Aggression. The boy's improving.
Winner: Billy Kidman

Chavo Guerrero cuts a promo on John Cena, basically daring him to show a Guerrero what ruthless aggression is all about. Oh come on Chavo, not you too! Your my favorite wrestler and all, but RUTHLESS AGGRESSION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING!! Don't worry Chavo, you still da' man.

Commercial

Marky Mark and MC recap some of the highlights from Smackdown, and let me just say that ONCE AGAIN, Smackdown was preemtped in New York. And for what? For the Giants/49ers game that was ALREADY on ESPN?! What the hell is point of that?! Let me tell WWE something. Whoever had the idea to pre-empt the show, and actually expect people to stay home on a Saturday night from 8-10 PM just to watch another crappy edition of Smackdown, is showing a lot of arrogance. I mean, what exactly are they thinking? My god. Anyway, we see the Billy/Mysterio match from Smackdown, as well as the proposal afterwards. Then later on, Rico tells Funaki (Even though they fought a few weeks ago on Velocity) how he will be Billy's best man. I don't know exactly what to say about all of this that everyone else hasn't already said. It's a horrible idea, it's gonna suck, and nobody wants to see it. Billy and Chuck's careers are going to be ruined, and I have no idea how Rico will come out of this. Hopefully, the "marriage" will somehow be prevented, like maybe Sean O'Haire could save Chuck from total embarrassment, but other than that, it's just sickening, and this, I guess, it another step in the direction of WWE's "We don't care about wrestling anymore, we just want to make people puke" agenda.

Commercial

Boot of the Week: On RAW this past Monday night, Crash Holly makes my week by saying how he has jumped to Smackdown, and thus, he will be back on my show. And let me just say that I CALLED IT! I could really care less if you believe me or not, but as soon as it was first mentioned that a "family member" would be jumping to Smackdown, I automatically assumed it was Crash. It was my low-carder instincts, that's what it was! And let me just say that it will be a pleasure to have Crash Holly back on my show again. In my opinion, he is one of the most entertaining wrestlers in WWE right now, but no one even gets a chance to see it because he fought on Jakked/Metal and HeAT all the time. Well maybe now he'll be getting a Smackdown push, although I would actually prefer that he come back to my show. Welcome back Crash!

Funaki vs. Mike Awesome
Now this should be interesting. Before Awesome came from his injury, Funaki was Smackdown's biggest jobber, but now fast forward, and let's take a look. Funaki is "Smackdown's #1 Announcer" and even pinned Tajiri in a tag team match a few weeks ago on Velocity. Mike Awesome, on the other hand, is still winless, so let's see if he can pick up his first win here.... over an alleged announcer.

Before the match, Funaki calls himself Smackdown's #1 Announcer, and that everybody loves Funaki. Cole then tries rubbing it in to Mark Lloyd, but of course, my boy Marky Mark could really care less, thus making Cole looking like an even bigger idiot. Now we get to the match, where Awesome tosses Funaki around for a bit at the start. The Indeed One would come back though, connecting on a crossbody from the second rope, but only for a quick one count. On commentary, Cole calls Awesome an "established competitor," although I'm still waiting for him to win his first match. Michael, do everyone a favor and actually THINK before you open up that disgusting mouth of yours. Maybe your comments won't sound as stupid as they always do. Back to the match as the action ends up on the outside, where Awesome sends Funaki hard into the steel steps. An "ECW" chant would break loose at this point, and I'm surprised all the old ECW fans actually aren't embarrassed to relate Awesome with ECW again. I mean, it isn't his fault or anything, but the guy hasn't even won a match yet. Anyway, we head back in where Awesome pulls off his nice top rope clothesline for a two count, and he would then look to follow up after Irish whipping his adversary. However, Funaki kicks him in the face, but runs right into a clothesline proceeding it. Mikey stays in control as a result, and now sets up Funaki for a powerslam. He would then lose control, as Funaki sets himself free, and drops Awesome down on his back. Both men are down, and when they get up, Funaki nails the opposition with a boot to the face in the corner. This enables him to follow up with a bulldog and an enziguiri, all for two counts. The announcer seeks to follow up, but instead, runs right into a Sky-High from Awesome, and I would assume D-Lo doesn't like that. Well he's on HeAT so there's nothing he can do about it. Anyway, Awesome now goes for the Awesome Bomb, but like always, his opponent gets off the attempt, and after dodging a ram in the corner, Funaki rolls up Awesome... and gets the win! Did Mike Awesome piss off the Vince or something? Funaki is pretty much the lowest of the low on the Smackdown food chain, and Awesome actually did the job for him. That's the way, Mikey. Swallow up that pride, you just jobbed to an announcer! Meanwhile, over on HeAT, Planet Stasiak and Justin Credible ponder the thought of jumping to Smackdown, where they too might even have a chance at a win against Awesome.
Winner: Funaki

Commercial

Lloyd and Cole show us some more of the highlights from Smackdown, this time we see the backstage segment with Eddie, Angle, and Benoit, followed by the six-man tag main event, which saw Edge, Rikishi, and Undertaker as the victorious team. And OF COURSE, Undertaker makes the winning pinfall because he "paid his dues" and all, and thus, his partner means nothing.

Commercial

Marky Mark and Michael intro the 20-minute Waste-O-Time interview from Smackdown between Undertaker and Brock Lesnar, which was "moderated" by Stephanie McMahon. Oh yay, now I get to take a 20-minute nap. When I wake-up, I see Taker looks like he's about to cry, which is totally ironic. I mean, I wouldn't blame the younger talent if they looked like they were about to cry. Taker uses all of his political power again this, so notice the irony here. We also find out that Sara Taker is pregnant, and if Heyman didn't learn from the bad storyline DDP was forced in, don't mess with Taker's family! Well, bottom line is that the Unforgiven main event is going to be horrible, and I'd be surprised to see if Taker actually did the right thing by putting Lesnar over. Lesnar retaining the title at Unforgiven is very important, and I can guarantee you that many people out there would quit watching WWE if Taker actually won the title. So how about this. If Taker jobs to Lesnar at Unforgiven, I will actually PRAISE the Undertaker RIGHT HERE in the 'five-star' Velocity report, proving that just about anything can happen. And I would mean it too. If Taker can just do the right thing for once and let Lesnar keep the title, I will actually compliment him. Done and done.

John Cena now cuts a promo, and to sum it all up, he says don't ever count him out. Well after jobbing cleanly to D-Von last week, I'm not sure if I can actually take that as being serious. And like Cena said on Confidential, he's a "loose-cannon" in real-life.

Commercial

Chavo Guerrero vs. John Cena
I've said it SO many times before, and I'll say it again: Chavo Guerrero is the coolest wrestler! I mean, the music rules. He's an awesome wrestler. And that strut will soon be cooler than the spinaroonie. I'm not sure about all of you, but I actually do the Chavo-strut in school. "What are you doing, Zylbert?" they'd ask. I just say, "This is the Chavo Guerrero strut! Don't you ever watch Velocity?!" Well... maybe not.

To the match now as Cena starts off hot with some beautiful arm drags and a hip toss. Chavo now takes a breather in the corner, and I notice Cena has on Packer colors this week. Boy does he like sucking up to the crowd. Both men tie-up a few moments later, and we get some nice basics, leading into a fireman's carry take-over by Chavo. Cena would knock his way out of it, and on a victory roll attempt by Chavo, Cena rolls through it, drawing an applause from the Guerrero. He is so cool. Now as they meet in the center of the ring, Chavo hits him with an unexpected cheap shot, and on commentary, MC calls it a rookie mistake for Cena, although the same thing would happen to anybody else. I hate it when an announcer mentions "rookie mistakes" because usually, it's an ordinary mistake that any other wrestler would make. Hey Michael, why don't you worry about your own job because you make PLENTY of mistakes. Back to the match as Chavo scoop slams Cena before beginning the damage on the left leg of Cena. After an uppercut now from Guerrero, Chavo works a choke in the corner, and then follows with some more work on that left leg again. A pin later sees Chavo get a two count, but he continues to go to work with kicks to the leg. Cena tries coming back with some punches out of desperation, but ducks his head on a whip attempt, and pays for it. Chavo delivers an elbow to the back, and then works an Indian deathlock. Haven't seen that move in awhile. Chavo breaks the hold after not getting the submission, and then he would apply another hold, in which the left leg of Cena is pulled against the neck of Chavo. Ouch. After breaking that up, Chavo seeks to put Cena out of his misery with the brainbuster, but the rookie avoids the attempt. Despite receiving a dropkick to the knee, Cena still manages to block some punches, allowing him to perform a huge backbody drop. Cena then does a great job of selling the leg injury, as he can barely run after sending Chavo into the corner. As a result, the potential Cruiserweight Champion nails Cena with an elbow to the face in the corner, giving him control again. That would not last long though, as after Cena puts up his right hand, signaling for a punch, Chavo ducks, and Cena traps in a small package out of NOWHERE to get the win! Excellent match, and a very-well booked ending. There was no other way basically for Cena to win with the injured leg, so the ending came out perfect. However, I have to ask: Was it roll-up night or something?
Winner: John Cena

Marky Mark and Cole quickly shill for Confidential coming up next that's Murder She Wrote... I mean all she wrote.

Velocity has come to an end, so until next week, this is Matt Zylbert wishing you guys and gals a great week, and I'll see ya next week. Before I go though, let me wish all you football fans out there good luck for your respective teams, unless your a Chargers fan. Go Bengals! Peeeaaace.

2002 - WWE ran Rapid City, South Dakota with a Raw brand event.  Jon Douglas filed the following report:

Attendance was roughly 3,300 in a building with 7,500 seating capacity

Quick Results:

Spike Dudley d. Johnny Stamboli

Benjamin Shelton d. Justin Credible (match of the night IMO)

Christian and Lance Storm d. Bradshaw/Goldust and Nowinksi/Regal in a WWE Tag Title Elimination match

"Wacko" Stevie Richards w/Raven d. D-Lo Brown

Rob Van Dam d. Chris Jericho to retain the I-C title

Finkel shilled the JVC Tower of Power and WWE Merchandise

Molly and Victoria d. Trish and Jackie Moore (Stacy Keibler guest reffed)

Big Show d. Tommy Dreamer in a no DQ street fight (ECW chants were plentiful in Rapid City!)

Triple H d. Buh Buh Ray Dudley to retain the "World's Title"

Overall a pretty decent house show. Richards, Trish and Shelton Benjamin went above and beyond the call of duty to spend some time with the fans. Crowd reaction was typical for this area, stuck 20 years in the past. The area isn't exactly hurting for wrestling with indy promotions like UCW, IWF, NWA and 4 straight years of WCW shows so the poor turnout was expected.

2002 - The first-ever Kurt Angle Classic, a freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling event being promoted by Angle himself, was announced as taking place on place November 8, 9, and 10th at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans as part of the GNC "Show Of Strength" weekend. The event is named in honor of Angle, and the hope is that it will raise the visibility of the sport.   The competition will include Men's Freestyle, Men's Greco Roman, and Women's Freestyle wrestling, with a "USA vs. The World" format.  The first session will feature U.S. military champions taking on the Russian military team.  The second and third sessions will feature U.S. wrestlers and international stars by invitation.  Invitations are being sent out based on showings at the Olympics and World Championships.   According to GNC's website, the purse for the competition will exceed $75,000.

2002 - NWA Wildside TV aired.  Larry Goodman filed the following report:

NWA Wildside returned to the NCW Arena last night for their bimonthly television taping. The wrestling was good, not great, but it only makes sense to save their best stuff for the Wildside 3rd Anniversary Show on 9/21. Ahh but the booking, It was like night and day compared to the last taping. Gone is Lazz/Dustin Timberlake/That Guy, whatever the hell you want to call him and his clueless valet. The faux FBI abomination was nowhere to be found either. In their place, were some new programs and interesting set-ups that kept the crowd heated up throughout the show.

Murder One (formerly Homicide) said he was back in town to kick ass. He talked about how he had been suspended for beating up NWA VP Bill Behrens (hanging him over the top rope) and threatened with being fired. He had nobody to fight so he gave poor Dan Wilson a Baldo Bomb. Onyx hit the ring in street clothes to nail One with a powerslam. They announced a match for the anniversary show. This program could give them both a new lease on life in Wildside. Fans were into this segment.

1) Briscoe Brothers (Mark & Jay) lost by DQ to Lost Boyz (Azrael & Gabriel) and T-N-T (Todd Sexton & Tony Stradlin) in 5:50, so T-N-T still has the straps. The deal here was that the losing team would be eliminated from a 2 out of 3 fall match for the tag titles at the Anniversary show. Frenetic action with all conceivable combinations of wrestlers working with and against each other on double teams. Mark did a flip dive. Stradlin did a stunner from the tree of woe position on Jay. Briscoes and T-N-T did a series of stereo back and forth pinning combinations. Briscoes went for their finishers, but Lost Boyz broke it up. Lost Boyz went for the Unholy Roller, but Mark got partially out of the way of Azrael's frogsplash elbow.

Mark accidentally took out ref Andrew Thomas with a springboard clothesline. Finish saw T-N-T miss with stereo belt shots on Briscoes, who then laid out T-N-T with their finishers, Jay with the J Driller on Sexton, Mark with the cutthroat suplex on Stradlin. Number two official, Speedy Nelson made the three count. New tag team champions...until Thomas reversed the decision with a DQ on Briscoes. Mark decked Thomas in frustration. Gabriel hit Sexton with a belt shot, while Azrael gave Stradlin a piledriver. Lost Boyz draped the title belts across the limp bodies of T-N-T. Not the best wrestling I've seen from this bunch, but a hot match that did an effective job of setting up the tag title match.

Future Shock (Jay Freeze & Brandon P) came to the ring to cut their first ever promo in Wildside. P complained that Behrens had held them back, despite the fact that they were "setting the tag team world on fire." Freeze said they got no respect from the boys or the office. He said they were tired of being overlooked and under appreciated. That brought Scottie Wrenn and Tank to the ring. Wrenn said Future Shock didn't get any respect because they sucked. He gave them a Wildside history lesson, talking about how he was in the first match on the first show in the building (11/7/98). Wrenn talked about how THEY were the ones who were overlooked. Wrenn said he went from being the Wildside heavyweight champion to working a program with a drunk (Bart Sawyer). Said he never got a rematch for the title. Said Tank got stuck in a tag team with a troll (White Trash). Wrenn told Future Shock that respect was not given, it was earned, and they could earn it in a match. "It's not gonna be pretty because we're going to beat the living piss out of you."

Wow. Did that ever come from nowhere. Future Shock are not great talkers but they got their point across. Wrenn's shoot style promo left the crowd hot for an ass whipping. Well done.

...And speaking of an ass whipping.

2) Total Destruction (Sean Royal & Rusty Riddle) destroyed The Outlaws (Henry Hoss & John Dalton) in 3:41. Hoss got a couple of slams on Royal and that was it for the Outlaw offense. The action moved ringside where Total Destruction proceeded to beat the crap out of the Outlaws. Fans were quick to feed Riddle a chair. He started wearing Dalton out with chairshots. Fans chanted "Kill the mullet." Royal blasted Hoss with a chairshot and posted him. They dragged Dalton back inside the ring. Royal applied a leglock and Riddle came off the top with a legdrop on their helpless opponent. Time for the Ezy Rider (Royal with a vertical suplex assisted with a spike off the top by Riddle) 1 ... 2 ... 3.

Two huge dudes with weapons (Dobbins Brothers from Dusty Rhodes' TCW) came out of the crowd to attack Total Destruction. They were dressed in black and wearing sunglasses. One of them was using a sawed off 3 wood on TD. Riddle and Royal were both busted open and left laying on the floor. Riddle's head was in a puddle of blood. Royal looked out of it, as he staggered and fell down trying to make it to the back. Royal was mumbling under his breath. "Somebody's gonna get an ass whippin'. You ain't gonna do this s***."

3) AJ Styles beat Adam Jacobs in 7:27. Styles became available to work when IWA's Sweet Science Sixteen Tournament was postponed. Great intensity to start the match. Best chain wrestling I've seen from Jacobs. At 1:40, Jacobs went for a leapfrog and Styles caught him with a dropkick. Styles opened up with forearms and chops. Stiff strikes in this match. Jacobs came back with his Metroplex (sitout uranage) for a two count. Jacobs with chops and forearms. Styles hit a powerslam for a two count. Styles busted out a move that I hadn't seen him use in Wildside. He put Jacobs in airplane spin and dropped him throat first across the top rope. Jacobs whipped Styles into the rail. Styles backdropped Jacobs onto the entrance ramp. At the 6-minute mark, Jacobs hit the superkick but was too beat to follow up. Styles went for the Clash and Jacobs was able to counter out with a huracanrana for a near fall. Styles blocked Jacobs on tornado DDT and re-planted him on the top rope. Styles bumped ref Speedy Nelson. John Phoenix came to ringside to cause a crotch job on Jacobs. Styles hit the Clash for pin. Styles saw Phoenix at ringside and accepted the tainted victory without apology, so his allegiance remains a mystery. I think Jacobs his biggest pop since turning face on his way out.

4) Iceberg (with Jeff G. Bailey) beat Rick Michaels in 5:25. Along with everything else, Iceberg is now introduced as "The Vessel of Violence." Iceberg pounded away. Michaels used a shot to the nutsack and fired back with southpaw punches. Iceberg picked Michaels up and charged across the ring to ram his back into the turnbuckles. Iceberg draped Michaels' throat on the second rope and did the Ivan Koloff run-across-the-ring and jump on the guy's back thing. Bailey hurt his hand again with a cheap shot punch. Iceberg sent Michaels over the rail with a baseball slide. Back inside, Iceberg missed on an avalanche splash. Michaels hit a pair of dropkicks that had little impact. A flying forearm was good for a two count. Michaels went for the double shot, but he couldn't take Iceberg down with the neckbreaker. Iceberg crushed him with an elbow drop, followed by a Ground Zero splash for the three count. Iceberg put the icing on the cake, with a beautiful (if you can call it that) flying Abdullah the Butcher elbow drop. This match went a long way towards restoring Iceberg's status as the indestructible monster.

5) Malaki beat Sweet Dreams in 4:43. Nothing horrible, but nothing of much interest either. I think most fans saw way more of Dreams in his tiny pants than they really wanted to. Dreams missed on a twisting moonsault legdrop. Malaki won it with a Michinoku driver.

6) Caprice Coleman submitted Tony Mamaluke to even their best of five series for the World TV title at 2-2 (1:27). Mamaluke came out limping with his left knee heavily wrapped. Coleman showed no mercy, immediately hitting a springboard clothesline and going to work on the injured knee. Mamaluke tried to make a comeback, but hurt his knee in the process. Coleman debuted a new finisher, which was a cross between a stump puller and a standing figure four leglock. Similar to the finisher El Satanico uses, with a figure four added.

Mamaluke said that he may have been beaten in under a minute with a bad leg, but he was a man, and he wanted to settle their series tonight. That led to ...

7) Coleman beat Mamaluke in 7:08 to win the best of five series 3-2 and retain the World TV title. Good match but not much heat. The face taking advantage of the heel's injury made for an interesting story, but it made it tough for the crowd to get behind Coleman. Coleman hit a senton and went back to work on the knee. Mamaluke fought back with punches and kicks. Mamaluke used a Funk uppercut and some stinging chops. Coleman blocked Mamaluke's high angle back suplex attempt. Mamaluke did the slingshot guillotine legdrop to the apron. Mamaluke applied a camel clutch. Coleman made the ropes. Mamaluke's knee gave out again. Coleman hoisted Mamaluke off his feet and caught him with a neckbreaker on the way down. Coleman covered, but Mamaluke was able to roll a shoulder. Coleman went to the top. Mamaluke shoved the ref into the ropes to crotch Coleman. Mamaluke hit a superplex and locked on the guillotine choke that he used to tap Coleman out to take a 2-1 lead. Coleman was finally able to break the hold and flip over to gain a near fall. Coleman used a Northern lights. Mamaluke rammed Coleman into the buckles. Both men down, with Coleman gasping for air. Coleman hit the Thermal Shock to win the match and the series. Coleman helped Mamaluke to his feet and offered to shake hands. Mamaluke picked up the title belt and laid it across Coleman's shoulder. Classy finish.

8) Swingers Inc. (Michael Anthony & Vincent I. Pain) (with Destiny) won an "underdogs" tag team gauntlet match in 11:05 to earn a spot on the anniversary show card. The other teams were Dagon Briggs (with Seven) & Mr. DeliciousFrankie Armadillo & Adam BookerJohnny Curtis & Kid KrazyKid Thrilla & Shadow Jackson and Jeremy V & Derek Driver. Match started with Briggs and Driver, with a new man entering every 30 seconds. Seven had an interesting tattoo on her abs, but I expect few people were paying much attention to that part of her anatomy. Driver did a split leg moonsault. Thrilla (in from Nashville) used a pumphandle slam. Briggs and Delicious nailed Armadillo with a dropkick sandwich. Jackson powerslammed Anthony before saying goodbye. Curtis saved himself with a skin the cat before getting dumped for good. Anthony eliminated V with a fallaway toss over the top. At 7:40, only Booker and Anthony were left. They did a regular tag match from there. Booker took over on Anthony with a spinkick and a frogsplash. Pain tagged in and landed a dropkick for a two count. Booker & Armadillo gave Pain a double backdrop off a blind tag. Armadillo got two with a swinging neckbreaker, as Anthony broke up the pin. Swingers nailed Armadillo with a Boston crab/legdrop combo off another blind tag. Finish saw Armadillo miss on a dive and take a double team drop on his head for the pinfall. Good match for what it was.

Sal Rinauro came to the ring to address the status of G-Rated. Rinauro took the blame for the problems with his partner, Kid Kool. Rinauro said he got a big head and took his frustrations out on Kool. He called Kool out and asked for forgiveness. They hugged. Not much crowd reaction, like they weren't sure what to make of it. Good intuition, I would say. Rinauro clotheslined Kool and pounded on him. "The coolest thing about you is me." Rinauro hung Kool's feet over the top rope and dropped him with an inverted DDT.

9) Jimmy Rave beat Jeremy Lopez and Slim J in a three-way elimination match to retain the NWA World junior title (7:50). Excellent match. Giant pop for Rave. The kind he hasn't been getting of late. Maybe absence does makes the heart grow fonder. On to the highlights: Lopez was content to loaf along the ropes and allow Rave and J to do the work. J eventually got a hold of Lopez. Can't remember the last time I saw someone sell a hammerlock as convincingly as Lopez did here. J took a seat at ringside, like he was in a jury box, to watch Rave and Lopez. Lopez and Rave started exchanging slaps and forearms. J took a big bump over the top. Rave took a bump to the outside, and J re-entered with a springboard spinning headscissors for a near fall. Lopez was able to regain control. Rave did a step up Shining Enzuigiri off the ref's back. All three down for an eight count to set up a triple nip up spot. J hit the 3-6 Mafia kick on Rave. Rave eliminated Lopez with a stunner at 5:35. J did an awesome sunset flip powerbomb deal for a near fall. I wanna see that again. Rave used a pair of spears on J and absolutely took his freakin' head off with a lariat. J came back with a RUDE side fisherman buster thing for a near fall. Rave blocked J's Anger Management finisher. J blocked Rave's tornado DDT. J boosted Rave up onto the buckles and landed a dropkick. Rave used a Northern lights bomb off the top to pin J. Yikes. Fans chanted "Free Slim J" as the Corrections Officer put him back in handcuffs.

10) Future Shock (Jay Freeze & Brandon P) beat Scottie Wrenn & Tank via a count out in 8:56. The faces punished Future Shock right from the get go until they bailed out. Wrenn and Freeze squared off. Wrenn powerbombed Freeze. Wrenn used a HEAVY chop and a forearm shot to send Freeze down to the canvas. Wrenn & Tank used a double choke slam on Freeze. A fan seated behind me displayed the dry wit that Cornelia fans are famous for with "Jay Freeze sucks Brandon's P." Tank used a pumphandle slam on P. Freeze jumped in, kicked the hell out of Tank, and dragged him over to the corner so P could make the tag. Ref Speedy Nelson let it go by. Future Shock got heat on Tank. Nelson stayed busy with Wrenn, allowing Future Shock to use a variety of nefarious heel tactics. Freeze used a Mr. Wrestling 2 kneelift. Tank ducked a double clothesline for clothesline on Freeze and a front slam on P. Hot tag to Wrenn. He did his gorilla press face plant on Freeze. No ref to count. Ref bump? Maybe he was on the outside, where P was posting Tank. Anyway, Wrenn hit the Psycho Slam. 1 ... 2 ... P pulled the ref out of the ring. They battled on the outside. Future Shock was able get back in the ring before the 10 count. Wrenn & Tank didn't make it. Again, the booking and execution left fans wanting to see more.

11) David Young beat Rainman (with Bailey) by DQ in 4:53. Good match with good heat while it lasted. They exchanged hard slaps at the start. Young dropped Rainman on his face with a German suplex. Bailey got on the apron to tie up Young's arms for Rainman. Young slipped out and gave Bailey & Rainman a noggin knocker that left them both on the floor. Young got crotched coming back through the ropes and Rainman took over with a corkscrew dropkick. Rainman punched away from the mount. Young got a sunset flip hope spot. Rainman cut him off with a leg lariat for a two count. Rainman slowly climbed to the top. Rainman got crotched after taking a punch. Rainman dumped Young to break up a superplex attempt. Young blocked Rainman's tornado DDT and tossed him into the turnbuckles with a Northern lights suplex. John Phoenix hit the ring on Young for the DQ. Jacobs hit the ring on Phoenix. The faces got the upper hand, forcing the Elite to retreat.

Young challenged the Elite to tag match, which Bailey accepted, leading to...

12) Jacobs & Young beat Rainman & Phoenix (with Bailey) in 9:48. Jacobs was on Phoenix like white on rice. Phoenix moonsaulted to his feet. Jacobs gave him an inverted DDT across his knee. Young did that swinging face plant move on Phoenix. Brute power there. Phoenix potatoed Young with brutal spinkick right in the face. Phoenix took out Young's knee and the Elite went to work on it. Phoenix used a single leg crab. Rainman applied figure four, but Young reversed it. Bailey reached in to rake Young. Phoenix went for another cool leg submission. Phoenix missed on a headbutt of the top, but connected on a basement dropkick to stay in control. Young and Rainman did a crossbody collision that left both men down. Tag to Jacobs. Wrong time for the tag, which sucked the heat right out of the match. The Elite took over again. Iceberg came out and avalanche splashed Young against the apron. Jacobs hit a neckbreaker on Phoenix. Rainman and Iceberg worked Young over on the outside, leaving Jacobs and Phoenix to do battle on the inside. Chair in the ring. Phoenix did a move with the chair on Jacobs that looked really screwed up. Jacobs got right up and gave Phoenix the Stroke on the chair for the pin. Flat finish there.

Bailey got on the mic to set up the key matches for the anniversary show. 1) Michaels vs. Rainman in a Dark City Death Match, where anything is legal. 2) Phoenix vs. Jacobs in a Loser Leaves Town Match. 3) Iceberg vs. Young for the Wildside Heavyweight Title with no DQ and no count out. It had been three years, and Bailey wanted to eliminate all three of them.

Michaels came out and it looked like they were going to do a 6-man right on the spot. The faces cleared the Elite out of the ring. Michaels challenged the "p***ies" to get back in, but they weren't having any.

NOTES: It appears that Wildside will be back on TV on the Cornelia cable system within the next few weeks. They are trying to secure a Saturday morning slot, which will allow them to push the TV tapings on the day of the show. ... The Wildside 3rd Anniversary show on 9/21 will have Lost Boyz vs. T-N-T two out of three falls for the tag team titles, a Wildside heavyweight title match with Young vs. Iceberg, Rainman vs. Michaels in a Dark City Death Match, Jacobs vs. Phoenix with the loser leaves stip, Future Shock vs. Tank & Wrenn and Onyx vs. Homicide. ... Wildside returns to Toccoa on 9/28. ... David Young will return to Japan for another tour with Zero-One in about four weeks. While in Japan, Young had a tooth knocked out in a match with Spanky. ... 2002 - WWE's Raw brand ran Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  John Littrel filed the following live report:

September 8th, 2002
Cedar Rapids, Iowa
U.S. Cellular Center
John Littrel

I just got back from the Cedar Rapids WWE house show, and had a blast. The first thing we noticed is that the crowd size was relatively small compared to the other times WWE has run through here. Even with the small crowd, the wrestlers, refs and crew worked their butts off to give us a great show. A very solid show, that I think should have left everyone happy that attended.

Spike Dudley d. Johnny Stamboli

Perfect match to start the night, really got the crowd going, and Spike was getting a pretty good reception. Johnny Stamboli had a solid showing, and the match flowed very smoothly. They did the all the normal spots of Spike getting thrown around, but in the end, nailing the stomp and the ACID DROP for the win.

D'Lo Brown d. Raven

I am a huge fan of D'Lo and Raven, but this match was just too short, and no one really got into it. D'Lo won with the SKYHIGH.

Shelton Benjamin d. Justin Credible

The crowd totally hated Justin Credible, starting the famous "just-an-a**hole" chant early on. Shelton got some pretty decent pops for not being a worker on TV. Several great spots in this match, but Shelton Benjamin won with what my friend described as, and pardon the spelling, a "reverse twisting ensaguri" that looked sensational.

Bradshaw d. Steven Richards

Bradshaw was over with the crowd, who wanted to see him destroy somebody, and Steven Richards filled that part perfectly. he played the sniveling, little wuss who wanted no part of Big Bad Bradshaw to a tee. Bradshaw go on the mic before the match to get the crowd into it, and of course beat the snot out Steven Richards, who only got offense in cheap shots. Bradshaw hits THE CLOTHESLINE FROM HELL for the win.

Molly Holly & Victoria d. Trish Stratus & Jacqueline

The special referee was Stacy Keibler, who had on the best damn ref outfit I think I have ever seen. Lots of good wrestling from all the woman, and for a nice change, very little cat calling and "we want puppies" types of chants from the crowd. Victoria gets the pin on Trish after what we believe was a belt shot. The whole time in the crowd, a guy dressed in a referee outfit kept screaming at Stacy for her "lack of" skills on being a ref. My friend said he was Referee Billy J of a local Indy fed, CFWA. I think he may have had one to many Miller High Lifes!

Chris Jericho d. Bubba Ray Dudley

Great match with the crowd loving Bubba Ray, but more so hating Jericho. He did a great job of turning all of us against him, and got tons of "Fozzy Sucks" chants. Fozzy was also played at intermission, although I doubt many noticed. Jericho ends up making Bubba tap to the Walls of Jericho.

*INTERMISSION*

Jeff Hardy d. Test

Lots of "U-S-A" chants in this one, as can be expected. Pretty good match that Test mostly dominated. Hardy hit all his trademark moves, and ended up getting a school boy on Test after Charles Robinson pushed Test for pushing him. Jeff Hardy's Swan-ton was perfect.

Lance Storm & Christian d. Booker T & Goldust/William Regal & Christopher Nowinski (WWE Tag Team Match)

A three way dance of sorts, elimination style. Before the match, Christian cut a awesome promo, that got him lots of heat. Booker and Goldust were over huge. And William Regal stood and let this guy make an ass of himself by getting in Regal's face for like 5 minutes. When the guy was done, Regal just smiled, turned and walked away. Pure Gold!

William Regal and Chris Nowinski got eliminated quickly, but only after they could do the "men lovers" routine, with Booker getting on the mic and proclaiming "I thought Billy and Chuck were on Smackdown." The whole match was awesome, with lots of near falls and teasers. Test came in, gave the BIG BOOT to Goldust, allowing Christian and Storm to get the win.

Big Show d. Tommy Dreamer

Awesome match, with Tommy taking way too brutal of bumps for a house show. He really got his butt kicked. Big Show dished out some punishment, but also took a nasty bump into the steps that looked painful. Big Show hits a gross looking Choke Slam onto a garbage can on Dreamer for the win.  Dreamer slid out of the ring, and pretending he was "pancaked" onto the can. acting like he couldn't get it off, till it finally dropped off and he stumbled to the back. Real sick looking spot.

Triple H d. Rob Van Dam (World Title Match)

Another awesome match, with HHH just yelling at everyone in the crowd to really get some heat. He even yelled at this 12 year old kid with a sign to "shove it up his ass!" The poor kid looked heart-broken. RVD was over huge, and got lots of assist with his "R-V-D" chants.  Back and forth match, which saw many nearfalls. Just when you thought it would end, someone would kick out. Triple H hits the PEDIGREE onto RVD to retain the title.

All the wrestlers really busted their butts, and put on an excellent show. I hope RAW is as good tomorrow when I go to see it in AMES. Big Props for RVD, Goldust, Booker T, Trish and Jacqueline for really making sure that everyone got the attention they deserved, and spent an extra long time slapping hands with the fans. Real class.

2002 - WWE's Smackdown brand ran Cleveland, Ohio.  Kevin Peel filed the following live report:

1.  KURT ANGLE DEFEATED RIKISHI

A really hot opener as Angle was getting a ton of heel heat without even doing any mic work.  This match was billed as a "kiss my ass" match.  Rikishi can really work a crowd and he had the crowd in the palm of his hand for this match.  Late in the match, Rikishi hit his big belly to belly suplex and dragged Angle over to the corner for the Banzai Drop.  The ref counted 1-2-3 but later noticed that Angle had grabbed the rope before 3.  After a couple reversals, Angle pinned Rikishi using the ropes.    After the match, Angle told Rikishi he had to kiss his ass.  Instead, Rikishi attacked Angle from behind and gave him the stink face in the corner to the delight of the crowd.

2.  HARDCORE HOLLY DEFEATED RICO

The crowd wasn't really into this one, but this was a pretty good match from where I sat.  Rico really looked good here and has a lot of potential.  Holly picked up the win with the Alabama Slam.

3.  BILLY AND CHUCK DEFEATED HURRICANE AND SHANNON MOORE

This was a really entertaining match.  Hurricane got a great crowd response.  Billy and Chuck were really funny doing all the gay spots.  Chuck and Shannon Moore traded go behind spots that Chuck seemed to really enjoy.  Billy was getting jealous.  It's a shame that Billy and Chuck can't be this entertaining on TV.  Late in the match, Hurricane hit the choke slam on Billy, but Chuck ran in and hit Hurricane with a super kick.  Billy covered for the 1-2-3.

4.  BAUTISTA SQUASHED D-VON

D-Von came out and called the crowd sinners for chanting "You Suck" to an Olympic hero like Kurt Angle earlier.  He then got the cheap heat by making fun of the Cleveland Browns saying they choked in their home opener (which is true).  Bautista came out and beat D-Von with a powerbomb.  Pretty much the same match they had on Smackdown this past Thursday.

5.  BROCK LESNAR DEFEATED UNDERTAKER BY DQ TO RETAIN THE WWE TITLE

Brock Lesnar got a big baby face pop, which isn't good since he's a heel.  Taker came out and was over huge.  Crowd heat was great for the match and they were buying most of the near falls.  Late in the match, they did the WWE trademark ref bump.  Taker hit a choke slam, but there was no ref to count.  Lesnar hit a nice fisherman's suplex, but there was no ref to count.  Lesnar brought a chair in the ring and hit Taker with it.  Later, Taker hit Brock with the chair but the ref saw him and called for the DQ.  Brock retains the belt.

6.  RANDY ORTON DEFEATED MATT HARDY

I  missed this match as I was late coming back from intermission since I was picking up the new Brock Lesnar T-shirt.  Apparently, Matt cut a promo before the match about bringing some "mattitude" to the fans.   Orton won the match and Matt threw a tantrum after the match.

7.  TAJIRI, CHAVO GUERRERO AND BULL BUCHANAN DEF MARK HENRY, JOHN CENA AND HORACE HOGAN

Bull Buchanan looks to be in the best shape of his career.  This was an okay match but nothing special.  Tajiri scored the 1-2-3 after nailing Horace with the kick of death.

8.  JAMIE KNOBLE DEFEATED BILLY KIDMAN TO RETAIN THE WWE CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE

Nidia and Torrie Wilson were both at ringside for this one.   Very good fast paced match with a ton of near falls, but the crowd wasn't into it. Kidman kicked out of the sit-down powerbomb.  Kidman hit his form of the sit-down powerbomb, but Nidia jumped on the ring apron which led to a Nidia/Torrie catfight.  Knoble hit Kidman with a belt shot to score the 1-2-3 and retain the cruiserweight title.

9.  EDGE AND REY MISTERIO DEFEATED CHRIS BENOIT AND EDDIE GUERRERO

Great crowd reaction for all four guys.  Late in the match, Eddie hit the frog splash on Edge and Benoit covered, but Edge still kicked out.  Misterio tried the 619 on Eddie but looked like he blew the spot.  Eddie covered for him and sold it anyway.  Edge hit the spear and scored the 1-2-3.  After the match, Edge and Rey did the old "5 minute pose" spot to send the fans home happy.

I though it was a great house show as there weren't really any bad matches on the show.  Definitely an enjoyable show, but they announced they wouldn't be returning until next year.

2002 - WWE broadcast Heat.  John Keane filed the following TV report:

Matches taped on 9/2 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Your Announcers are Jonathan Coachman and D'Lo Brown.
John Keane reporting

Pyros go off, Coach and D'Lo welcome us in, we go straight to work…

1st Match: Victoria vs. Jacqueline.

Mild pops for both. Lockup, Jacqueline tries for a side headlock, Victoria grabs the hair, drops her to mat. (For brevity's sake, I'll refer to the competitors as Vic and Jaq for the rest of the recap.) Jaq protests as she gets to feet, Vic pleads her innocence. Another lockup and hair-pull slam follows, Vic plays to the crowd, Jaq gets to feet, scores pair of retaliatory hair-pull slams, follows up with a drop toe hold and a pair of armdrag takedowns. Vic to ropes, Jaq lays in forearms, tries for whip, reversed, Jaq off ropes, Vic scores nice powerslam, good for 2. Vic to feet, drops an elbow for another 2, jumping legdrop gets same, Vic brings Jaq up by the hair, tosses her face first into top turnbuckle. Vic sets standing boot-choke in the corner, gets warned off by ref. Jaq at ropes, Vic scores with a knee to gut, follows up with a shoulder to same, whips Jaq off ropes, sets for back body drop, Jaq counters with a sunset flip for a 2-count. Up, Vic clotheslines Jaq to canvas, takes too long to cover, just gets 2. Vic follows up with a sidewalk slam for another 2 count, brings Jaq up, gets in a clubbing forearm to the back, whips Jaq to corner, charges, Jaq gets the boots up, Vic down and up. Vic charges again, Jaq scores a pair of clotheslines for knockdowns, lays in forearms, whips Vic to corner, follows up with a nice belly to back suplex. Vic staggered, Jaq scores kick to gut, Vic doubled over, spinning kick to the head follows, Vic down for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Jacqueline.

Backstage, we see Raven arriving at the arena. Ring Announcer Howard Finkel approaches-he informs Raven he's also now a Heat-exclusive talent due to a loss to Lillian Garcia on Raw a couple of weeks ago. (News to me.)
Howard tries to be upbeat, Raven blows him off, reminds Howard Heat is still his personal playground, a point he plans on emphasizing during his match with Spike Dudley later on. Break.

Straight back to the ring…

2nd Match: Shelton Benjamin vs. Shawn Stasiak.

Very mild pop for Shelton, heat/simple hatred for Shawn approaching X-Pac level. Quick lockup/break/lockup, Shelton forces Shawn to corner, ref calls for break, Shelton complies, Shawn gets in the obligatory pie-facing. Shawn attempts to deliver lecture, Shelton VERY quickly gets bored, gets in boot to gut, tries for a headlock, Shawn shrugs him off, Shelton off ropes, rolls through a hiptoss, scores one of his own. Shelton follows up with an armdrag takedown and a slam, Shawn down. Shelton slams his head to canvas, brings him up to ropes, tries for whip, reversed, Shelton off ropes, ducks a clothesline, goes off opposite ropes, Shawn tosses him over the top. Shawn poses as Shelton skins the cat behind his back, re-enters ring, Shawn turns to quickly be tossed over the top and out of ring (as, of course, Shawn is unable to spell cat, much less skin one). Shawn slowly ascends apron, Shelton goes to join him, Shawn slams his head on top rope. Shelton staggers as Shawn ascends top turnbuckle, flying clothesline sends Shelton down for 2. Shawn up, lays in boots, goes for a pair of chokes, ref issues warnings for both. Shawn brings Shelton up, scores a suplex, good for 2. Shawn attempts to bring Shelton up, Shelton stages the comeback, fires off punches, whips Shawn to corner, charges, Shawn ducks under, brings Shelton up, drops him chin-first onto top turnbuckle, Shelton down. Shawn scores with a forearm, kick, brings Shawn to ropes, lays in knee choke, gets warned off by ref. Shawn brings Shelton up, scores a quick snapmare, lays in a sleeper. Shelton struggles to feet, elbows out of hold, goes off ropes, Shawn sets for backdrop, Shelton goes for the sunset flip, Shawn keeps his leverage, gets in a quick punch as Shelton is on canvas. Shawn pauses to pose, Shelton takes advantage of the break, gets a quick rollup, good for 2. Both men up, Shawn connects with a forearm, Shelton down, Shawn goes for the laying in of the boots, brings Shelton up, sets for suplex, Shelton floats over, scores with a neckbreaker, both men down for a 5-count. Shawn up first, the 2 exchange punches, Shelton to feet, gets in a flurry of chops and kicks, sets for whip, reversed, Shelton off ropes, scores with a back elbow, Shawn down. Up, Shelton connects with a clothesline, Shawn down and up, Shelton whips him off ropes, scores back body drop, Shawn down for 2. Shelton brings Shawn to corner, attempts whip, reversed, Shelton to corner, Shawn scores a spinebuster as he bounces out, good for 2. Shawn getting frustrated, brings Shelton up, sets for suplex, Shelton floats through, tries for superkick, Shawn catches boot, whips the leg, Shelton scores spinning kick (referred to by our announcers as the Money Clip), Shawn down for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin.

During the match, Coach and D'Lo reminded us that Heat stalwart Crash Holly will no longer be joining us, having joined his cousin Bob on the Smackdown roster. Break.

We return to recap the SummerSlam PPV, held 2 weeks ago. Shawn Michaels made his return to a WWE ring after a 4-year absence to get a win over HHH. Post-match Hunter got in a pair of sledgehammer shots to Shawn's back. Last Monday J.R. and the King talked to HBK via a satellite connection-Shawn was at home in a wheelchair. Short form, Shawn plans on rehabbing his butt off, is proud of the match and eventually plans on getting a measure of revenge on HHH. Break.

Boot of the Week: Last week on Heat, D'Lo got a win over Raven. As you may recall, the 2 have been feuding over the last month.

Speaking of Mr. Sunshine, we return to the ring…

3rd Match: Raven vs. Spike Dudley.

Nice pop for Spike, decent heat for Raven-he and D'Lo trade glares pre-match, looks like their feud ain't over. Mild 'ECW' chant as the 2 circle, lockup, Raven forces Spike to corner, ref calls for break, surprisingly Raven does so cleanly-to turn his attention to D'Lo at the announce table. Spike and Raven again circle, lockup, Spike again forced to corner, ref calls for break, Raven gets in a triplet of forearm shots before complying, Spike down in corner. Raven brings him up, shoots Spike off ropes, brings him up, Spike counters with headscissors takedown, Raven down and up at ropes, Spike clotheslines him over top and out of ring. Raven gets to feet, Spike scores with a plancha, Raven down. Spike poses for crowd, rolls Raven in, follows, Raven up in corner, Spike joins him, ascends first turnbuckle, punches him to canvas, follows up with a quick tap-dance on Raven's chest. Spike brings Raven up, attempts whip, reversed, Spike into turnbuckles hard, drops to canvas. Raven brings him up, Spike again whipped to corner, Raven off ropes, running clothesline sends Spike down again, Raven covers for 2. Raven brings Spike up in corner, goes behind, ascends 2nd turnbuckle, sets knee on back of Spikes neck, falls, Spike sent face first to canvas, Raven covers, Spike grabs the ropes at the count of 2. Raven sets Spike under ropes, slingshots him face first into bottom strand. Spike, close to convulsions, retreats to corner, Raven follows, brings him up, whips Spike off ropes, lays in a sleeper as he bounces back in. Spike counters with a sit-down jawbreaker, Raven quickly up, attempts to re-apply sleeper, Spike shakes him off, sends Raven off ropes, lays in a sleeper of his own. Raven backs Spike into corner, sleeper is broken, Raven to canvas. Up, Spike charges, again tries for sleeper, Raven counters with a suplex, both men down for a 9-count (!). Up, Spike scores with the battering ram, Raven staggered, Spike fires off forearms, kick to gut, goes off ropes, running bulldog sends Raven down. Up, Spike again off ropes, scores with a forearm, Raven down for 2. Raven up in corner, Spike whips him to opposite, charges, Raven gets a knee up, sends Spike to canvas. Raven brings Spike up, tries for whip, Spike puts on brakes, tries for another headscissors takedown, Raven counters with powerbomb. Spike near dead, Raven sets him up in corner, ascends 2nd turnbuckle, turns his attention back to D'Lo. Raven scores pair of punches as D'Lo removes headset and stands on announce table to respond to Raven's barbs. Raven ignores Spike to jaw-jack with D'Lo (so much for that huge IQ), Spike quickly rolls Raven up with backslide variation, gets the 1-2-3.

Winner: Spike Dudley.

Post-match Coach and D'Lo share a chuckle as Raven throws a fit in the ring. Break.

Back, after a quick clip of the closing moments of Spike/Raven, we see Coach had to keep D'Lo from going after Raven during the break.

Time to recap Raw. Last Monday Raw GM Eric Bischoff, reacting to the announcement that Undisputed Champion Brock Lesnar would be exclusively performing on Smackdown, brought the old WCW Championship belt out of retirement and presented it to HHH, proclaiming him the new 'World Champion'. Ric Flair took offense at the belt he'd worn 16 times simply being handed to someone, and Bischoff set up Flair/HHH for later on the show with the new title on the line. Hunter got the win, post-match Chris Jericho (who lost to Flair in controversial fashion at SummerSlam) hit the ring and put the Nature Boy in the Walls of Jericho. Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam made the save, getting in some shots to HHH in the process. After, the enraged Game demanded Bischoff set up HHH/RVD for later on the show. Y2J protested, as he was scheduled to get a shot at Rob's IC title during the shows main event. Bischoff quickly got sick of the two and eventually set up a tag match, RVD/Flair vs. HHH/Y2J. Good guys picked up the win in that one, Rob hitting Hunter with the 5-Star Frog Splash and getting the 1-2-3 as Flair had Jericho in the Figure-4 on the outside.

D'Lo wonders if Hunter will have anything to say tomorrow night about the loss to RVD. Break.

WWE Rewind: Last week on Raw, Booker T. picked up a win over William Regal. Post-match Spinaroonie followed.

Steven again whipped off ropes, Goldust scores version of One and Only, Steven down for 2. Steven up in corner, Goldust joins him, ascends 2nd turnbuckle, gets in a 9-count of mounted punches, gets in a quick hiss and a glance at his hand (tribute to his pal Booker T, methinks) before delivering #10. Generic hype for tomorrow nights Raw ends the show.

Pretty decent show tonight, little bit of everything in the ring. Recap was the usual. Glad to see the Raven/D'Lo feud hasn't been dropped, hopefully it'll lead into a match where both guys can show they deserve a place on the weeknight show. Then again, after the last 2 weeks…maybe they're better off right here on Heat, where you can get more than 2 matches in an hour!

2003 - During an edition of Raw in Huntsville, Alabama, Kane defeats Rob Van Dam in a steel cage match.  At the start of the match, Kane repeatedly throws Van Dam into the cage, to the point that the cage "breaks" and swings open and Van Dam falls to the floor.  He is declared the winner, but Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff orders that the match continue, since the rules stated that you had to win by pinfall, escaping the cage through the door, or by going over the top of the cage.  Kane would go on to win with a top rope chokeslam.

2007 – Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch defeat Paul London & Brian Kendrick to win the WWE World Tag Team championships.

2008 - Fox Searchlight Pictures  purchased rights to "The Wrestler" for $4 million, beating out Lionsgate, Overture, The Weinstein Co. and Sony Pictures.

2008 - The 10/12 screening of"The Wrestler", closing out the New York International Film Festival, sold out immediately, although additional tickets were released the weekend of the showing.

2008 - WTVD-TV in North Carolina reported that Ashley Fliehr, daughter of Ric Flair, had been arrested in conjunction with an incident that left the Hall Of Famer "bloodied and bruised".  According to the story, police in Chapel Hill were called to a commotion outside an apartment complex involving Flair, Ashley and an unidentified 22-year old man.  The three were apparently involved in a fight, but Ric Flair declined to file charges.  However, Ashley was accused of kicking a police officer, leading to a taser gun being used on her.  Ashley, then 22, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.  She would go on to be known as Charlotte in WWE.

There were no further details on why the fight occurred, or how badly hurt Ric Flair was.  There were no mentions of injuries to Ashley or the unidentified man.

UPDATE: When the channel attempted to contact Ashley Fliehr, her boyfriend said "the incident was a family matter that is now resolved".

2008 - WWE broadcast Raw on the USA Network.  Richard Trionfo filed the following TV report:

After last night’s ScrambleMania pay per view, otherwise known as Unforgiven, do we get to see a new champion for the Raw brand or did CM Punk get to retain his title. In case you missed the pay per view, CM Punk did not even get a chance to defend his title because of what Randy Orton did to him. Punk was beaten up so bad that he could not even wrestle. However, one man who got beaten to the point where he could not defend himself was able to take Punk’s place and he is your new World Champion. Shawn Michaels defeated Chris Jericho, but Jericho was able to accept General Manager Adamle’s offer to join the Raw Scramble match. We also saw Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes retain the tag titles against Cryme Tyme. We got to see a new member of the Raw roster when Manu made his debut to help Rhodes and DiBiase. What is next for Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix after what Randy Orton said to them last week? Will Kofi Kingston get any revenge on Rhodes, Orton, DiBiase, or Manu for their attack on him when Kingston came to Punk’s aid? What fun things will The Adamle come up with tonight? What will the new champion say? What will the four men who could not win the title do on tonight’s show. Will Bradshaw claim that he is the champion because the Jets and Giants won this weekend?

We are live from Fort Wayne, Indiana and your announcers are Jerry ‘I have a suggestion for the second generation team’ Lawler and Michael ‘I picked the Colts to win last night’ Cole.

Lillian Garcia is in the ring and she introduces the new World Champion Chris Jericho. Chris tells everyone who he is and he points out that he is the new World Champion in case you missed Lillian Garcia’s announcement. Jericho is going to give everyone who did not see the pay per view an update on what happened. Last night, he faced the wrath of a self righteous hypocrite, Shawn Michaels. Shawn talks about turning the other cheek and being a good person; but Chris wants to show us what Shawn did last night. Chris takes off his jacket, shirt, and tie and he reveals the marks on his back. The crowd applauds the bruises while Chris talks about them. He asks what kind of man would do this to another human being. What kind of person would disfigure another man? That man is Shawn Michaels and he is a hypocrite. Shawn whipped him like a dog. The tip of his belt discolored his back and the fans savored every minute of it. When all of the bravado goes down, what did Shawn Michaels win? He won nothing. Shawn might have won his match. Now he is home celebrating with his family. Chris says that the match was unsanctioned and never existed so Shawn accomplished nothing. Chris points out that he has the title belt.

Chris says that six months ago, he said that good things happen to good people. Chris says that he is a good person. He is a righteous man and a good man. He does what he says and now he is the champion. After he received the brutal beating that he did not deserve last night, he was told by Mike Adamle that Randy Orton kicked CM Punk in the head and was out of the Scramble. That is how he is the new champion. Not only did he beat Steve Austin and The Rock to become the first Undisputed Champion. Last night, he beat Kane, Rey Mysterio, Batista, and Bradshaw to win the title. Chris points out that Batista came close to winning. Now everyone must respect how good Chris Jericho is. Chris says that he is not Shawn Michaels. He is better because he is the new World Champion.

Mike Adamle comes out and he congratulates Chris for his victory. Adamle says that CM Punk suffered a concussion last night and was not medically cleared to wrestle last night. Mike says that he was looking for a championship caliber replacement and Chris filled in that role. Adamle reminds everyone that Punk lost without being pinned. Punk is not here tonight. Next week he will get a chance to regain his title. Punk will Jericho for the title. The match will be in a steel cage.

Jericho says that he is not worried because he beat Punk in his home town, so he can beat him next week. Chris says that he is sick of dealing with the hypocrites so he is going to get out of here. Adamle says that he is not done. He needs a main event tonight. After last night, why not have Chris Jericho face Batista.

We go to commercial.

Randy Orton is walking in the back and we go to commercial.

We are back with the Slam of the Week: Randy Orton kicking CM Punk last night at Unforgiven.

Randy Orton comes to the ring very deliberately. Orton has lulled the sound truck to sleep and then he says that there is no worse feeling than to be on a global stage with the title in your grasp only to have tragedy keep you from competing. Orton says that he is not talking about CM Punk. Orton says that he is talking about himself. A few months ago, he broke his collarbone against Triple H, unable to retain his title. The difference between CM Punk and himself is that he earned his championship. He won the main event at Wrestlemania. CM Punk got lucky and karma caught up. Last night, he was taken out by a one armed man. Orton says that he did it because he was threatened and he felt concerned for his safety. Punk should not be mad, but he should be happy for having his face kicked in because it kept him from being exposed.

Orton tells Jericho to feel free to thank him any time he wants because if it wasn’t for him, Jericho would not have been in the match, and he would not have been champion. Orton says that he will take back what is his when he is healthy.

Orton is interrupted by Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase and Manu who come to the ring. Rhodes asks Orton who took care of Punk last night. Rhodes tells Orton to check his facts because if the three of them didn’t do what they did, Orton would not have been able to punt Punk unconscious. Rhodes says that they took care of Kofi too. Rhodes tells Orton not to take credit for something he didn’t do. Manu says that he is not the only one who was blessed with God given talent. He isn’t the only one with a father who is a hall of famer. He says that Orton is no better than any of them. Ted says that Orton did slap Cody in the fact last week. Ted says that what they did to Punk was impressive. Orton slaps DiBiase and then Orton leaves the ring.

2010 - Ring of Honor announced they signed a new deal with then-current ROH Television champion Eddie Edwards.

2011 - TNA broadcast Impact Wrestling.  Stu Carapola filed the following TV report:

Welcome to the Impact Wrestling Report here on PWInsider.com!

They kick off the show with a video package of various TNA wrestlers talking about Jeff Hardy's "demons" which, by the way, he got sentenced on earlier tonight, then another short video of the neverending, twisting and turning conflict involving Immortal, Ken Anderson, and Sting, and then we're off to the arena as Anderson makes his way to the ring. He says he made a deal with the devils, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, and tells the fans to boo him. They comply, but he says he's on the outside of Immortal looking in thanks to Bully Ray, and if they thought he was annoying before, he's going to be a royal pain in their asses now because he's coming after Kurt Angle tonight. Everybody forgot that he never cashed in his rematch and he's going to do that tonight, but he knows Immortal are going to interfere so he's got Sting to watch his back. Weren't they just feuding like a month or two ago? I honestly can't keep any of this straight anymore. Sting comes out and says he's wielding the power of the Network, who have given him the ability to call the shots tonight because he's going to be the guest referee for tonight's Angle-Anderson match.

Tonight, JEFF HARDY RETURNS...and a bunch of other stuff!!!

Let's head to the ring for our first match...

Devon & The Pope vs The British Invasion

This match is to determine Mexican America's challengers at No Surrender, and the British Invasion are already in the ring during Pope & Devon's entrance, which should tell you pretty much what's going to happen. Pope beats up Magnus and takes a shot at Williams, but Magnus takes the opening to boot him in the face and tag out to Williams. Williams works him over and then Magnus tags in and takes his head off with a clotheslines for 2. A top rope elbowdrop from Magnus gets 2, but Magnus misses a big boot and lays Williams out, allowing Pope to make the tag to Devon. Devon cleans house on both men and hitsa powerslam on Williams for 2, then Pope clotheslines Magnus to the floor and Devon hits a spinebuster on Williams for the win.

Winners: The Pope & Devon

Kurt Angle is backstage saying he'll believe Jeff Hardy's back when he sees it, then someone I believe is named Eddie Alvarez comes in to talk about his upcoming fight in Atlantic City. Kurt's really happy to see him, and they walk out together.

We're down to the final four in the Bound For Glory Series, and we'll see Bobby Roode (42 points) taking on Gunner (42 points) and Bully Ray (49 points) takes on James Storm (30 points) this weekend at No Surrender. But we'll get a preview of that match right now, as we go to the ring where all four participants are in the ring. Bubba takes the mic and kicks Jeremy Borash out of the ring, and says that he is a tag team god and is qualified to say that Beer Money will go down in history as one of the greatest tag teams not just in TNA, but all over the world. Bubba knows they both want to win the series and go on to win the title, but they won't admit it to each other because tag teams never look at each other and wonder how successful they could be by themselves. Hawk, Animal, Rick, Scott, and even he did it. He says Gunner will do whatever it takes to win the series and go on to win the World Title, but neither of them will do what's right for each other because wrestlers are selfish and neither will turn down the women and money. He's Bully Ray, he's from New York City, and he's the next World Champion.

Roode takes the microphone and says Bubba's right that Beer Money will go down as one of the greatest teams of all time, but he and Storm have their eyes set on becoming the World Champion because it's been both their dream since day one just like everyone in the back. Only one man can walk out of No Surrender as the challenger for the World Title, and he guarantees that whether it's Storm or himself, they'll both be there to share in the celebration because no matter what, nobody will ever come between them and nobody will ever kill Beer Money. Storm says he's sorry about their damn luck, and we'll see these guys face off in a four way match later tonight. Great promo!

Back to the ring...

TV Title Match: Eric Young vs Robbie E

Hopefully this will be painless. Robbie works Eric over until Eric fires up, pulls his pants down, and connects with a flying clothesline and a top rope elbowdrop for 2. Eric f'n SPIKES Robbie with a piledriver, and now is able to cover for 3.

Winner: Eric Young

Eric is celebrating when Rob Terry comes out of the back and attacks him, then gives him the Last Ride.

Rob Van Dam finds Jerry Lynn in the back and is angry that Lynn screwed him, and Lynn said he did it because it's always been about him and the phones are always ringing for him, and he only gets called to wrestle RVD because they know it'll be a good match. He had to get a job at a warehouse while RVD was being brought in here, and Hogan and Bischoff finally smartened him up. He knows he's better than RVD, to which RVD responds by laying him out and walking off.

Velvet Sky and Mickie James are backstage and Velvet congratulates Mickie on regaining the Knockouts Title and wonders what it would feel like around her waist, but before they can get too deep into that conversation, Karen Jarrett comes in for an inspection. She says it's like a pig sty back there and can't believe Mickie has her dog with her, and she says she made a Mickie-Winter rematch for No Surrender, and tells Velvet to lay off the cupcakes because her ass is getting too fat.

Jeff Hardy is backstage! And he's...WALKING!

Time for main event #1...

World Title Match: Kurt Angle vs Ken Anderson

As stated earlier, Sting is the special enforcer referee for this match. They feel each other out until Anderson comes off the ropes with a back elbow and then fires in with right hands to Angle. Anderson with a spinning neckbreaker for 2 and then rams Angle hard into the corner for another 2. Anderson charges Angle in the corner and Angle gets the boot up, then charges out and nails Anderson with a clothesline. Angle only gets a 1 off of that, but tries to wear Anderson down with a rear chinlock. Anderson fires elbows into the midsection of Angle, but Angle with a knee to the midsection and then goes back to that chinlock. They wipe each other out with a double clothesline, but get back to their feet and go toe to toe. Anderson wipes the champion out with a clothesline, but walks right into a bearhug and Angle pops him over his head into a release suplex. Anderson comes right back by scooping Angle into a fireman's carry and hit a Finlay Roll for 2, then he goes for the Mic Check but Angle escapes and hits one German suplex after another and covers for 2. Angle pulls the straps down and goes to the anklelock, but Anderson rolls through into a cradle for 2, then hits the Mic Check out of nowhere, but Angle manages to kick out at 2. Sting looks concerned at ringside as Anderson pulls Angle back to his feet, but Angle "accidentally" pokes the referee in the eye, then low blows Anderson and hits an Angle Slam. The referee goes to count, but Sting pulls him out of the ring to tell him what Angle did. Angle goes to the ropes to yell at Sting, but turns around and Anderson hits the Mic Check. Anderson goes for the cover, but Gunner runs in and nails him at 2 and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner by DQ: Ken Anderson

Okay, raise your hand if you didn't see that finish coming a mile away! Yeah, didn't think you would. All of Immortal, including hogan, comes down to the ring and they leave Anderson and Sting laying as Angle holds the title belt high.

We come back from commercial to rewatch what we just saw, then we go to the Immortal locker room where they apparently want to throw a party because they just perpetrated a beatdown. Bischoff kicks them all out because he can't hear what the person he's talking to on the phone is saying. They leave, and Bischoff acts angry at what he's hearing, so he probably wishes he hadn't kicked everyone out. Oh well, back to the ring.

Mickie James & Velvet Sky vs Winter & Angelina Love

Velvet and Winter start, but Velvet tags out before making contact and Mickie comes in, so Winter tags out to Angelina. Angelina tosses her across the ring by the hair, but charges into Mickie's elbow and Mickie hits her headscissors out of the corner and a clothesline. She goes after Winter on the apron, and Angelina nails her from behind and then holds her so Velvet can come off the ropes with a diving dropkick for 2. Angelina gives her former BFF a chinbreaker and then tags out to Winter, but Velvet catches her with a monkey flip and then gets a flying headscissors. Angelina trips Velvet from the floor and then chokes her in the corner while Winter puts the boots to her. Winter with a Northern Lights suplex for 2, but Velvet hits a weird thing I don't know what it was and makes the tag to Mickie. Mickie off the top with the flying crotch to Winter's face, then unloads with clotheslines and a neckbreaker for 2. Angelina goes after Mickie, but Velvet wipes her out with a spear while Winter blows the red mist in Mickie's eyes and gets the win.

Winners: Winter & Angelina Love

I came up with all kinds of witty ways to describe the finish of that match for the headline, but none of them were really printable so I decided against it. But it's the thought that counts.

Austin Aries comes out and says that he's the #1 contender and Eric Bischoff's favorite X Division wrestler. Brian Kendrick may be all about love and harmony, but Kendrick doesn't practice what he preaches when he comes out to sneak attack Aries for taking his spot. Aries invites him out to the ring, and Kendrick comes out in a suit with his hair tied back and carrying a briefcase. Kendrick says he's out here enunciating and dressing for success like Aries, and success means that whoever dies with the most toys wins. He's received all kids of compliments today for cleaning up well and even wearing shoes. Kendrick asks the fans if they like this Brian Kendrick, and the fans boo, so he says that's fine because he can't stand the outfit and the materialistic world it represents. He's shed desire, and the god voice inside him is stronger than anything in existence. Aries says he doesn't know how many voices he's got in his head, but he wants that belt Kendrick just threw on the mat without any respect. Kendrick says it's just a material possession, and Aries responds by saying he's a fake, a phony, a fraud, and afraid. Kendrick says he's a peace loving man, then suckerpunches Aries again and sends him heading for the hills.

Hulk Hogan comes into the office backstage carrying on like such a moron that he makes John Cena look like Dan Severn, but Eric Bischoff is sitting on the couch looking unhappy because he just got a call from the Network and the title match this weekend is now a three way with Angle, Sting, and Anderson. Hogan says he can't do it and he's had enough with the Network because he's in control and he runs the company and this is not going to happen. Hogan's acting is so bad by this point that you almost can't help but laugh at his performances.

Jeff Hardy is still backstage, and he's...STILL WALKING! Well, that's a good sign this late in the show.

Mike and Taz run down the card for this weekend's PPV, and then we're off to the ring for our second main event!

Bully Ray vs James Storm vs Robert Roode vs Gunner

The bell rings and Samoa Joe comes marching down the ramp, no doubt meaning to do some damage, but Matt Morgan runs out and attacks him and they brawl around ringside as a four way melee breaks out in the ring with Beer Money each pairing off with a member of Immortal. They all take turns laying each other out with clotheslines, then Beer Money lay both of Immortal out with double clotheslines. They have a brief staredown before Bubba attacks them, and Gunner covers Roode for 2 only for Bubba to yell at him that he's supposed to win this match. Storm with a crossbody on Bubba for 2 and a running neckbreaker for 2 on Gunner. Roode with a Blockbuster to Bubba and a spinebuster to Gunner for 2. Roode dumps Bubba to the floor and Roode and Storm have another staredown before going after Gunner and hitting a double vertical suplex. They do BEER...MONEY! and turn around to Bubba laying them both out with a double clothesline and the Bubba Bomb on Roode, but Gunner suddenly dashes across the ring and hits a kneestrike to the face of Bubba and covers for the win.

Winner: Gunner

Gunner backs up the ramp looking very pleased with himself as Bubba collects himself off the mat.

Jeff Hardy is STILL backstage, and he's STILL W-A-L-K-I-N-G! And next, he'll use his walking skills to come out to the ring and talk, too!

Jeff Hardy comes out to the ring looking really embarrassed about something and thanks the fans for the reaction. He thanks the Network for letting him come out and says that he was pathetic and messed up the last time he was out there, and he let everybody down. He let himself down for not being the main eventer he knew he is, and the doubt when he walked into the building was overwhelming because he felt hated. Everyone in the back has every right to be mad at him, and he can't change what happened at Victory Road, but he can admit that he hit rock bottom that night. He stops for a long moment before continuing to say that he can't expect everyone to give him another chance, but all he can do is ask to give him one more shot. The fans chant "one more shot" as Hardy continues and says that all he can do is ask. He drops the mic and climbs out of the ring as teh fans chant "one more shot" again as we fade to black.

That's it for this week, thanks for reading and I'll be back tomorrow with Dave Scherer for the Stu & Pid/Impact Postgame Show!

Paul Heyman is in the ring. He introduces himself and yay though he walks through the valley of the Cenation, he fears no Thuganomics because he is the advocate for the Beast, the conqueror, the reigning Undisputed Champion of the World . . . Brock Lesnar.

His client has authorized him to disseminate confidential information and he wants to deliver this warning as if he was up in the face of your hero . . . John Cena.

John’s music plays as he interrupts Paul’s comments.

Cena tells Paul not to worry. He didn’t want to stretch anyone’s imagination. If you want to say something to his face, go ahead and talk.

Paul says that is why he only tells Brock that until SummerSlam, John was the greatest WWE Champion of all time. It takes a special man to be confronted by the truth by the greatest advocate in the history of the WWE. Paul says that Brock thought that John would come out tonight. If that happened, he was authorized to drop the warning and give John some inside information.

This is John’s lucky night because John will be told how to beat Brock Lesnar at Night of Champions.

John says that he knows how to win at Night of Champions. Three simple words. Brock beat the Undertaker and we haven’t heard a peep from Taker in six months. John Cena loses at SummerSlam and one week later he is ready to go again. Cena’s strategy is ‘Never Give Up’. Cena tells Paul to tell Brock he will see him at Night of Champions.

Paul laughs and he asks if it is him or can John not help being ‘John Cena’. With all due respect, ‘that’ is your biggest problem. You live to be John Cena. You live for the kid that waits and waits and waits for that opportunity to come to a live event or to come to Baltimore to chant at the top of their lungs ‘Let’s Go Cena’.

When Brock stands in the ring. He doesn’t hear anyone but three people. The referee who can disqualify him, Paul Heyman, who strategizes for him, and Brock’s opponents who suffer at his hands.

Paul has a gift and it isn’t even Chanukkah. Paul tells John to give in to temptation. John comes out and people chant ‘Cena Sucks’. Paul says that it gets to John. It is one thing when someone of his stature and credentials to say it, but what about that fat and ugly unemployed guy in the sixth row. Don’t you want to go for that hatred and contempt you have in your soul to tell that person to shut up.

That will make it so much easier.

Paul tells John to tell them to Shut Up. Show them how much it gets on your case.

Paul goes Old School Cena and he does a rap and mentions the Baltimore Ravens.

Paul tells John to give in one time. The devil already sold his soul to Paul a long time ago. Lose the wrist bands and the t-shirts. Lose the idea of Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect. When you can dig deep into your soul, you can be the one who beat the one in twenty-one and one. Or John can be one of many victims who fell at the hands of the Conqueror Brock Lesnar.

Paul says that his client doesn’t mind him telling John. Paul tells John that he believes in him. His client . . . Brock Lesnar . . . says that John just doesn’t have it in him.

Cena sits in the ropes and he looks like he is going to tell someone to shut up but he returns to the ring and he tells Paul Heyman to Shut up. He tells Paul that he sees what he is trying to do. They are trying to end John Cena and have him turn his back on everyone who believed in him. That will not happen.

John tells Paul in his world, it is easy. To pop Paul? To pop the dude in the second row? To pop the dudes in the wifebeaters? So they can go on the internet to talk about getting to Cena?

Paul lives in a world of Eat, Sleep, Conquer, Repeat. Paul would turn on Lesnar if given the proper opportunity. John says that Paul does not know about living with a purpose or being. For Cena it is about Being John Cena. That is who he is. He was born to be that and he loves that. He wouldn’t change that, even if he could.

Some people don’t see the forest through the trees. He likes getting the kid to get his homework done early to come to Raw with his dad. He does not care if he is the guy who says that Cena sucks and then tells John he might not like him, but he is doing right by his kid. John says that he loves it when there is a kid who only has one wish and he wants to hang out with John Cena. John says that he is damn proud to be the guy who is fortunate enough to meet with wounded soldiers and that person is a hero of his. John says that these people thank him for giving him the strength to continue.

John asks Paul if he strips it away, what does he win? John says that he is done talking and it is time to fight. He can pound Paul’s pudgy face into clay. Then the headline reads John Cena beats up defenseless Paul Heyman. John tells Paul next week, he is showing up to fight so bring your client. If he decides to show up, they will get in the ring and they will fight. If Brock decides to take another week off, continue his vacation, and let Paul continue to do his business, John will fight Paul. He tells Paul to have a nice week and he will see Paul next Monday.
