Variety is reporting that the season finale of "Ballers", which aired this past Sunday, was the most watched half hour comedy in six years on HBO. The last episode garnered 1.43 million viewers, according to Nielsen “live plus same-day estimates,” below its previous low of 1.57 million set one week earlier. It was up against the Fear The Walking Dead premiere on AMC this past Sunday and had a weaker lead-in last few weeks with "Show Me a Hero" as opposed to the second season of "True Detective" earlier in its run.

According to the network’s analysis of Nielsen data, “Ballers” averaged a gross weekly multi-platform audience of 8.8 million viewers. That puts it third all-time among HBO comedies, behind “Sex and the City” (10.3 million) and the first season of “Hung” in 2009 (9.3 million).

The series, which stars and is produced by The Rock, has already been renewed for a second season. It will begin filming this November in the Miami area.
