THE WWE 24/7 SERIES THE NETWORK SHOULD BRING BACK, PIPER & HOGAN AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-08-22 10:00:00
While the workrate has improved with the arrival of the NXT Divas to the main roster, is lumping them all into groups really going to make fans interested in them? Apart from ringwork, WWE hasn't given me much of a reason to like any of them. Ronda Rousey is a star because she stands out from the crowd. They aren't giving any of the Divas a chance to do that, yet. And most of the audience, myself included, ignores the Divas unless there's something really interesting. So far, there's not.

I don't have an issue with the factions because if nothing else, it gives the new women a chance for the WWE audience to become familiar with them and then they can break them out, possibly in feuds with each other. I think the entire Divas revolution deal has become a little muddied since the big reveal and debut segment with Stephanie McMahon, but I'm hoping with tomorrow's Summerslam, we'll see that the ends justified their means. We'll know tomorrow.

I feel uncomfortable even asking this question, but is there any credence to Hulk Hogan's claim that he and Roddy Piper were "best friends"? I realize they made a lot of money together, but I never sensed or seen any evidence they were close outside the ring. I know Flair & Hart were great friends with Piper, but Hogan? Seems like he's playing politics. Again.

I know they were friends, but best friends? I don't know about that one. Piper was never one who really hung out with the other guys. He had friendships but he was pretty much a family man outside of the business. Hogan hung out with a lot of guys that were close with him away from the road. Piper wasn't one of them that I have ever become aware of, but the pair were certainly friendly.

After Dusty passed a few weeks ago, I decided to rewatch all the Legends of Wrestling roundtables, from the beginning, so I could hear him tell all those great stories again. Thursday night, I made it to the 2012 episodes, featuring Roddy Piper. It was great stuff. Sadly, he died hours later. We'll never get those opportunities again to hear their amazing stories. Isn't the WWE doing the fans & the legends a disservice by not doing any new Legends Roundtables and not showing us the old Crockett, Mid-South, etc. footage they have on the WWE Network? For Dusty, Roddy and all of us who grew up watching them and their contemporaries, I think WWE should open the vault a lot wider.

I agree with you 100%. I'd love to see WWE invest in filming an entire new round of Legends Roundtables. If they shot 12 episodes a year and released them once a month, it would be perfect and probably, pretty cheap to produce.

Whatever happened to AWA announcer Larry Nelson?

Nelson, real name Larry Shipley, sadly passed away in 2014 from pancreatic cancer. He did release an autobiography "Stranglehold" about a decade before, if you are interested in more on his time in the business.
