UNDERTAKER VS. BROCK BUILD, BUCKS' HEAT, JERICHO BEATING YOUNGER STARS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-08-20 10:00:00
When WWE was building the Brock-Undertaker match for Wrestlemania 30, I was surprised they didn't use the footage of their confrontation at a 2010 UFC show. I think it would have made more sense from a storyline perspective than what they ended up going with. Do you know whether they wanted to? I don't think the UFC even owned the tape (it was an Ariel Helwani interview), so I thought the WWE could have used it pretty easily.

I don't know who may have owned the footage, but I don't think ownership was the issue. I think WWE simply wanted to craft their own story as opposed to making it a match about something that happened "outside" of their realm.

Any idea why Chris Jericho is being booked to go over some of the newer stars? I'd expected that he'd be putting people over at this point in this career, especially since he isn't a TV character right now and wins really do nothing for him. But instead of helping build newer stars like Neville and Kevin Owens with much-needed victories over a big name like Jericho, I'm confused why WWE is booking him to win.

In many of the cases, Jericho has been a substitute for the injured John Cena, so the mindset is to have the hero win to send the crowd (already let down because Cena isn't there) home happy on a high note. That's old school wrestling 101. In the case of Jericho beating Neville at Beast in the East, I am with you 100%.

I remember reading that the Young Bucks blew their chance in TNA by disrespecting RVD backstage. What was that about, and was there really more to it?

I think you are getting stories mixed up. I think the story was that Booker T buried them for not being respectful and shaking hands at a WWE tryout and then explained that he had heard they were disrespectful from RVD, which when I interviewed the Bucks at the time, they were shocked at...but then they added it to their personas and just rolled with it. WWE has had discussions with The Bucks since but they are happy in New Japan, ROH and working indy dates.

What are your thoughts on Adam Cole, and do you think the WWE would want to sign him once his ROH deal runs out?

I think Cole is really great and likely to get even better as he gets older and matures in the ring. I could see WWE wanting him down the line. We'll see how it goes.

Despite NXT Takeover: Brooklyn occurring the same night and town, will ROH's second Field of Honor event still be successful?

They have close to 1,500 tickets sold based on a source close to the Brooklyn Cyclones, so I think they will be OK.
