NEW JAPAN G1 CLIMAX DAY 8 RESULTS

By Matthew Macklin on 2015-08-01 08:37:31

G1 Climax Day 8 Results:
Osaka, Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, August 1.

Doc Gallows & Cody Hall defeated Jay White & David Finlay
This was good with the young lions being the perfect guys for Gallows & Hall to toss around. The young lions looked good working from underneath against the two giants. Finlay was worked over for most of the match and White looked great when he came in off the hot tag. Gallows pinned White after the Gallows Pole. The young lions are showing that they can just about work with anyone.

Mascara Dorada, Tetsuya Naito & Kota Ibushi defeated Yohei Komatsu, Togi Makabe & Hiroyoshi Tenzan
Osaka hate Naito at the best of times, but they were all over him here. He brilliantly tagged out just as he was about to square up to Makabe at the start of the match. Those two meet tomorrow, as do Tenzan & Ibushi. Tenzan hasn't been having a good G1 so far, so we'll see what Ibushi can get from him. Naito eventually got into the match and when he was about to finish Makabe, he just tagged Dorada and walked away. This led to Dorada & Komatsu finishing the match. Dorada pinned Komatsu with the Dorads Screwdriver. It's good to see Dorada picking up a lot of wins.

Tama Tonga, AJ Styles & Bad Luck Fale defeated Captain New Japan, Tiger Mask IV & Katsuyori Shibata
Shibata & Fale face off tomorrow and we had a preview of that here with Fale using his power to try and stay away from the strikes. Bullet Club worked over the knee of Tiger for a lot of the match. There was a great sequence between Shibata and Styles with Shibata trying to hit the corner dropkick, but Styles kept running out of the corner and following Shibata in with splashes into the corner. For the finish Styles took out Tiger with a piledriver, Fale took out Shibata with the Grenade and Tonga pinned Captain after a leaping DDT. I think it was meant to be his double arm DDT, but it didn't happen. It was a decent match and another nice win for Tama Tonga.

KUSHIDA, Hiroshi Tanahashi & Ryusuke Taguchi defeated Gedo, Toru Yano & YOSHI-HASHI
KUSHIDA is back and joins the rest of the tour. There was plenty of comedy in this. There was one hilarious spot with KUSHIDA & Tanahashi working over the arm of Gedo, tagging in and out with arm wringers. Taguchi begged for the tag and when he eventually got in, he wound up for the arm wringer and Gedo poked him in the eye. Yano & Tanahashi renew their rivalry tomorrow in a tournament match. KUSHIDA looked great being back and did some really good stuff with Gedo. He made Gedo submit to the Hoverboard Lock when he countered a Gedo Clutch. This was a lot of fun.

Block B Matches:

Yujiro Takahashi defeated Satoshi Kojima
This was alright. Yujiro came to the ring with one of his "lady" friends that looked like she was having a seizure. It was really just the usual Yujiro Takahashi match. Kojima tried hard. It wasn't bad or anything, just nothing memorable. It looked like Kojima had the win after a Lariat, but Cody Hall pulled the ref out of the ring. This allowed Yujiro to hit a low blow followed by Miami Shine to pick up a win.

Karl Anderson defeated Yuji Nagata
This was really good. Anderson worked over the ribs of Nagata again, something that has been an ongoing theme for Nagata in the G1. Some of Anderson's reactions to Nagata firing up were priceless. Anderson kept mocking Nagata's taunt into he did it once too many times, forcing Nagata to fire up and make a comeback. Anderson attempted to turn an exploder suplex into a Gun Stun, but Nagata blocked the counter which was great. Anderson got the win when he countered a back drop driver into a Gun Stun. Anderson's great G1 run continues.

Michael Elgin defeated Tomoaki Honma
This was awesome! We knew going in that one of these guys would get their first win, and it was Elgin. Elgin was the perfect guy to over power Honma, so Honma could fight from underneath. Elgin did a great deadlift suplex after Honma missed a couple of Kokeshi's. Honma returned the favour with a deadlift of his own which the crowd went nuts for. The spot of the match was when Elgin hit a buckle bomb, Honma bounced out and hit a diving Kokeshi. From there they went all out with big blows, lariats and everything else. Elgin did a deadlift superplex into a Falcon Arrow and he hit a German suplex that Honma got right back up from. Elgin got the win with a deadlift powerbomb, a buckle bomb and an Elgin Bomb. Just so so great, with Elgin getting his first proper win in New Japan and proving what a perfect fit he is for the promotion.

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Tomohiro Ishii
This was absolutely incredible. Nakamura had his elbow heavily taped and was clearly gutting it out, and to have a match this good with one arm proves just how great Shinsuke Nakamura is. Nakamura probably wanted to makes sure he was back for this match with one of his closest friends and CHAOS mate Ishii. This was an all out war. Ishii controlled the first part of the match. Thankfully for Nakamura most of his offence revolves around kicks and knees anyway, so he wasn't limited in what he could do. Ishii hit Nakamura's reverse powerslam and several ridiculously stiff lariats that looked like they took Nakamura's head off. Nakamura hit several Boma Ye's with Ishii withstanding them and catching the foot of Nakamura who countered into a beautiful rolling armbar. Ishii battled out of this with blows to the head of Nakamura. Ishii hit some stiff headbutts and hit the ropes only to be caught with another Boma Ye, which this time was enough for the win. This was an amazing match if you were to judge on them both being healthy, but for it to be that good with a one armed Nakamura was insane. Go out of your way to see this one. Hopefully Nakamura didn't do too much more damage.

Hirooki Goto defeated Kazuchika Okada
This was another incredible match, and a gigantic win for Goto. There was a lot on the line in this one with the winner potentially getting a shot at the others title. These two have amazing chemistry and this was a fantastic back and forth match. Okada leaped over the guardrail onto Goto and DDT him on the floor taking control early. There were lots and lots of great counters, and the finishing sequence was especially great with Okada hitting a German suplex, holding on for a Rainmaker only for Goto to drop Okada with a head butt to the jaw. Goto would go on to dim the lights of Okada with two more headbutts followed by Shouten Kai to put down the IWGP heavyweight champion. Another match that is worth going out of your way to see and Goto will probably get an IWGP heavyweight title shot sometime over the next few months.

The last three matches of this show are all must-see making this one of the best days of the G1 so far.
