To the best of my knowledge, it is the first time that Liger will have stepped into a WWE ring, unless you want to count the combined WWF/All Japan/New Japan Wrestling Summit event in 1990 in The Tokyo Dome.
Obviously, the political implications here are very interesting. New Japan has a working relationship with ROH, which is running the same night in another part of Brooklyn (about 30-40 minutes away) with Shinsuke Nakamura, KUSHIDA and Kazuchika Okada appearing. It should be interesting to see whether WWE booked Liger via New Japan or went directly to Liger, who has the ability to book himself internationally.
PWInsider.com reached out to ROH for comment, but most of those who would be in a position to speak for the company were in transit to Las Vegas for tomorrow's ROH live event. It should be interesting to see what, if anything, comes of this.
