AJ LEE'S RETIREMENT, WHAT BRAY WYATT REALLY NEEDS, DUSTY AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-06-20 10:00:00
Has A. J. Lee ever explained why she ended her in-ring career? I’ve seen speculation, but don’t recall seeing anything from her about her reasons. Thanks.

No, but when the company you are working for sends termination letters to your husband on your wedding day and then their doctor, who will have to treat you at some point, sues your husband, it really is a rock and a hard place situation, so one can see why she chose to retire.

At what point will we stop judging great matches based largely on having a dozen or so false finishes? It seems like this formula really became a standard since the Undertaker/Michaels WM match and I worry about where they go from here. Sooner or later, fans will begin expecting kickouts even after hitting several finishing moves. I think the Steamboat/Savage formula of kicking out of rollups and cradles makes more sense, but no one uses the small package or a reversal off a crossbody block to win anymore. They're killing their top guys' finishing moves.

I don't think everyone judges a top match by those standards, but it's certainly become more commonplace over the years as has the idea that MORE MOVES equals workrate, which was never the case. It's just a shift in how the business is presented and depending on how you feel, it could be presented better.

Is Dusty Rhodes one of the top five most influential people in wrestling history? Considering his impact on Ric Flair's career, his stardom in Florida, his booking in Crockett, his mentoring in NXT and all the other components that made the Dream great, he's certainly near the top of my list. Thoughts?

He's in the top 1 percentile of anyone ever in the business in terms of influence.

Bray is now calling out Roman Reigns but it had me thinking. Wouldn't Bray be a lot scarier if he actually won some matches? I mean he loves calling people out, playing head games and getting under their skin. Then when push comes to shove it is 1, 2, 3 and Bray has another loss. I mean how long until he is reduced to calling out Barrett because that is the only chance he has of winning.

I understand what you mean. He's a toothless Great White. Hopefully someone in WWE Creative realizes that and pushes something worthwhile for Wyatt through the system.

I saw Sheamus has a part on the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. Didnt CM Punk say he tried out for a role in it?

Yes, that's the same film. My guess is Punk tried out for the Casey Jones role that Stephen Ammell ended up getting, as physically they are similar.
