PPV FOOTAGE ON FREE TV, TNA COUNTER-PROGRAMMING ROH, IS THE MUSCLE BUSTER DOOMED? AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-06-06 10:00:00
Why is it that on Raw following a PPV we only get to see photos/screen shots of stuff from the PPV and can't get footage? I understand before the Network they would want people to buy the replay but now with everything being on the Network shouldn't they be able to show clips instead of photos? Or is this just still a ploy to get people to re-watch on the Network?

At times, I have felt they show far too much footage after a PPV, so I guess it's a subjective thing. In my mind, the PPV is something they want people to pay for, whether it's on the WWE Network or it's on a traditional PPV distribution platform, so the regular broadcasts should be used to tease people so they want to buy the PPVs. I think WWE does the right thing in that regard.

hich Finisher requires more assistance from the person receiving it: Kevin Owens Pop Up Powerbomb, or Petey Williams Canadian Destroyer? While both look impressive, in your opinion, does the fact that each move obviously requires significant assistance from their opponent in order to safely execute, take away from any realism of the wrestling action that precedes these moves being used?

All maneuvers require the assistance of the person "taking the move" so they are all in the same boat as far as I am concerned. As far as which is more impressive, The Destroyer looks flashier but Owens' powerbomb is the one currently being presented as a monster finish, so I'll go with that one.

What is the latest on potential roster cuts? Do you see it affecting the main roster or developmental more?

It all depends on what WWE is looking to do with NXT. They cut some developmental talents after Wrestlemania. I do know that with the initial deal offered to Samoa Joe and ROH going on national cable, WWE is far more often then ever to deals that would be "outside" their usual box. They spent a lot of time in the last two weeks taking a deep look at the indy scene to sort of strategize plans going forward, since the belief internally is that ROH talents will now be more exposed nationally and harder to re-brand as their own.

I read your report about Tyson Kidd getting injured taking the muscle buster. Do you expect any heat on Joe? To your knowledges, is that the only instance of injury being caused by Joe with that move? Do you expect that's the end of the muscle buster in WWE?

I've seen Samoa Joe deliver that move hundreds of times from 2002 until today and I've never heard of anyone being legitimately injured by it. Based on the footage I watched about 25 times this week, it just appears to be a freak thing where Kidd took the bump wrong as Joe landed him flat on his back, as he is supposed to while delivering the move. I've not heard from one WWE source that placed the blame on Joe.

So, TNA's response to having to compete with ROH on the same network and possibly losing their TV deal isnt a mind blowing match, surprise return or great angle. It's man-on-woman violence that appeared to be murder. Really??? Do they really think this will draw wrestling fans as viewers, instead of focusing on WRESTLING?

In this instance, you can't blame TNA for the content on that one episode. They didn't know they would counter-programming Ring of Honor when they taped Impact Wrestling. As far as the content of the show, I get the angle was supposed to raise the levels of anger between James Storm and Magnus, but the execution wasn't something I thought worked well.
