IMPACT WRESTLING REPORT: THE COMPLETE SLAMMIVERSARY 2014 PPV

By Stuart Carapola on 2015-05-22 22:56:21
Welcome to the Impact Wrestling Report here on PWInsider.com! This week's report is going to be a little different because, instead of fresh material, they're playing last year's Slammiversary PPV. So instead of the usual segment-by-segment updates like usual, I'm just going to do a basic recap since

X Division Title Ladder Match: Sanada vs Eddie Edwards vs Davey Richards vs Manik vs Tigre Uno vs Crazzzzzzzzzy Steve

Your basic spotfest, not a whole lot to make it stand out from any other six man spotfest you've ever seen. Sanada climbs the ladder and grabs the belt to retain.

Winner: Sanada

Just a spotfest to kick the show off like I said, that's about it.

Samoa Joe vs Bobby Lashley

With MVP (who was originally scheduled to challenge Eric Young tonight) on the shelf with the knee injury, this match will determine who replaces him as the challenger #1 for the TNA World Title. Lashley goes over without too much trouble to advance to the title match.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Dixie Carter shares her thoughts on MVP and Bully Ray before we throw it to the next match.

Bram & Magnus vs Willow & Abyss

This match was the culmination of feuds that had their origins in Magnus' TNA World Title reign. Magnus had defeated Jeff Hardy and made him disappear, only to be replaced by the enigmatic and umbrella-toting Willow, while Abyss had been Magnus' hired muscle until he tired of Magnus' abuse and struck out on his own. Abyss wound up chasing Bram up the aisle with Janice while Magnus pinned Willow with a chokeslam.

Winners: Bram & Magnus

Jeremy Borash brings Kurt Angle out to introduce this year's inductees into the TNA Hall of Fame: Team 3D. Team 3D came out and hugged Angle, soaked in the significant crowd response, and thanked the fans for making them the greatest team in the history of pro wrestling.

Kenny King vs Austin Aries

This match fills the other challenger spot in tonight's main event for the TNA World Title. Aries starts off fast and tries to pick up an early win, but King gets the advantage when they go out to the floor. The referee catches him trying to use the ropes to pin Aries, and the ensuing argument gives Aries an opening to rally a comeback and hit a top rope brainbuster for the win.

Winner: Austin Aries

Really good match and an awesome finish.

Jeremy Borash introduces Kevin Von Erich and his sons, Ross and Marshall for their TNA in-ring debut:

Ross & Marshall Von Erich vs DJ Z & Jessie Godderz

This was while Robbie E was off doing the Amazing Race, as I recall. I remember how surprised I was to see how good the Von Erichs were since I had no idea Kevin had sons who became wrestlers, but they both looked fairly seasoned and I was wondering how they stayed hidden for so long. Jessie got the Bromans DQ'd for using a chair, but then Kevin got the pop of the night by coming to the save and putting DJ Z down with the Iron Claw. I bet every heel in the company was lining up to be the one to take the claw from Kevin.

Winners: Ross & Marshall Von Erich by DQ

The Von Erichs looked great, it's too bad TNA never brought them in as regulars. I also wouldn't have minded seeing Kevin come back for one night to team with his boys against all three Bromans, but I guess I could just as easily wish for the living Freebirds to come back and face them for all the difference it would make.

Knockouts Title Match: Gail Kim vs Angelina Love

I still can't believe how TNA just dumped Velvet on the shelf after all her work because Angelina was back. Stupid. Well, at least she got to stand at ringside and get beat up by Gail, who by the way, she had beaten herself several times during her Knockouts Title days. The ref finally ejects Velvet for interfering, then he gets bumped and misses Gail pinning Angelina after Eat DaFeet, and wakes up just in time to not notice Angelina pulling the tights as she rolls Gail up for the win.

Winner: Angelina Love

It was okay, but I felt like they could have done more with the two girls who are, statistically speaking, the greatest Knockouts Champions in history.

Texas Death Match: Ethan Carter III vs Bully Ray

This was just the beginning of the huge hardcore war between Ethan and his hired flunkies and Bubba and his crew of former ECW guys. This is no DQ, so Bubba brings tables out, pulls back the ringside mats, and kicks a chair into Ethan's face because that's just what we do in these. A cheese grater gets involved, as does a Dallas Cowboys trash can full of shards of glass, and then Bubba uses a box cutter to pull up a corner of the ring and expose the plywood underneath. Ethan smashes Bubba face first into the plywoof, but then he tries a move off the second rope and Bubba counters to a Bubba Cutter onto the glass. Dixie comes to ringside and gets in the middle of things and is wiped out, so Bubba puts her on top of a couple of tables on the floor and gets ready to come off the apron on top of her but Ethan nails him with a Singapore cane as Spud pulls Dixie off the tables, and Bubba goes through them instead and can't make the 10 count.

Winner: Ethan Carter III

Good match, and I have to give TNA credit, they did such a good job teasing Dixie going through that table that the fans were practically frothing at the mouth to see it when it finally happened. This feud made EC3 in TNA.

James Storm vs Ken Anderson

I truthfully forget what this feud was about, bu it gave both guys something to do for the PPV, I guess. James Storm tries to known Anderson out with a beer bottle, but someone from the Cowboys hops the rail and grabs the bottle, allowing Anderson to hit the Mic Check and get the win.

Winner: Ken Anderson

More Cowboys get in the ring and do a Rocky-and-Apollo-esque jump for joy in the ring.

TNA World Title Cage Match: Eric Young vs Bobby Lashley vs Austin Aries

As I mentioned earlier, this was thrown together at the last second when MVP blew his knee out a couple of weeks before this show, and since TNA tapes for weeks at a time, they didn't have a way to book themselves out of it prior to the PPV so they went forward with this instead. This was more or less 2-on-1 as Aries and Young had to stop fighting each other long enough to slow Lashley down, while Lashley looked like the unstoppable monster. Young hits Aries with the piledriver for the win, but gave the impression of just skating out by the skin of his teeth on this one.

Winner: Eric Young

Good main event, and I think this was probably better than we would have gotten if it was MVP in there with Young instead of these guys. This also set the stage for Lashley getting the title at the set of tapings right after this show, which I think was the best thing for the company overall. Pretty much all I have to say about a year old show!

That's it for this week, I'll be back on Monday to discuss all things TNA and more with Dave Scherer on the Stu & Pid Show!
