WWE HALL OF FAMER REQUESTS BAN LIFTED

By Mike Johnson on 2015-03-16 14:38:32

WWE Hall of Famer Pete Rose, who was inducted in 2004 as a parody of his being banned from Major League Baseball (and their Hall of Fame), sent an official request to MLB requesting his lifetime ban be rescinded.

New MLB commissioner Rob Manfred noted earlier today he received a formal request from Rose and will be looking into the "merits" of the request.

Rose was banned in 1989 based on his admission that he had placed bets on his own team to win while managing The Cincinnati Reds.  Since then, his ban has been a big point of conversation amongst die-hard baseball fans for decades, particularly the idea that he not be allowed to be voted into the Hall of Fame (which does exhibit Rose memorabilia in it's Cooperstown, New York museum)

Rose has made numerous appearances for WWE over the years, including an annual feud with Kane that featured Rose trying to get revenge for a 1998 tombstone delivered at Wrestlemania 14. Each year resulted in Rose being laid out, including failing once at attacking Kane while disguised as the San Diego Chicken.

Fittingly, Kane inducted Rose into 2004 in New York City when WWE relaunched their own Hall of Fame.  Rose most recently appeared for WWE as a guest host on Raw in 2010.

Note from Mike: The original post, due to a typo, listed the incorrect year for Wrestlemania 14. I apologize for the error.
