Well, yesterday Rey Misterio Jr. proved that wrong as he made his return to AAA after a 19 year absence today in a press conference announcing details for the Rey de Reyes show in Guadalajara on 3/15.
Rey was front in center along with Alberto el Patron & Myzteziz as the faces of the promotion for what seemed like hundreds of photo ops and they will also be working as a team on a show called the International Tournament of Lucha Libre on 5/23 which along with Rey de Reyes are the only two dates confirmed for him in AAA so far.
The International Tournament of Lucha Libre show will be sponsored by Victoria and it sounds like a World Cup format with trios from around the world competing. Mexico will supposedly feature 3 teams with one team being from AAa (Alberto el Patron/Myzteziz aka original Sin Cara/Rey) one team being "non affiliated with AAA", and one team made up from legends.
The United States will feature two teams with one coming from Ring of Honor and the rest of the world will have a team a piece.
Other news bits to come out of the press conference were that Dorian Roldan was asked about Lucha Underground coming to Mexico and he said that it was eminent but nothing more than that. Televisa Deportes higher-ups were there to receive a special award and it seems like AAA has a sponsorship deal with Everlast as the wrestlers were wearing their gear.
One other thing to note though is that they haven't announced an official lineup for Rey de Reyes yet although Rey is rumored to be teaming up with Myzteziz (the first Sin Cara in WWE) to face Perro Aguayo Jr. & Pentagon Jr.
