"SportsCenter’s “Friday Night Movie Night” Features Short Film on the Von Erich Wrestling Family

On Friday, Feb. 27, a new 30 for 30 Short will premiere on SportsCenter’s “Friday Night Movie Night” segment. The film, “Wrestling the Curse,” will air during the 6 p.m. hour of SportsCenter and be available for purchase on iTunes afterward.

“Wrestling The Curse”

The Adkissons had a successful family business in Texas, but it wasn’t a typical enterprise passed on from father Jack to his five sons. It was professional wrestling, and they were the “Von Erichs,” bringing entertainment to towns all across the Lone Star State in the 1980s — and heartbreak to themselves. Director Amanda Spain tells their story with the help of Kevin, “The Barefoot Wonder” and last surviving brother. Now at peace and living in Hawaii, Kevin bears witness to the perilous hold that wrestling still has on his family."

Right now in the Elite section is an interview with the Von Erichs' film Director & Producer Amanda Spain discussing how she became involved in making the film, Kevin's survival of everything he's been through, Fritz Von Erich pushing his children, comparing Kevin to PTSD survivors, ESPN's reaction to the film pitch, the long period of production, what she hoped to do with the film and then how it changed as she learned the scope of the Von Erich tragedies and more.
