BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING AT A VERY SPARSE WEEK OF WRESTLING ON TELEVISION

By Richard Trionfo on 2014-12-14 07:50:24
Unlike last week which was the first time since the last NXT Takeover special that we had two shows that did not qualify, we have a week where four shows fail to qualify. This is the first time that four shows have not aired matches that would qualify for this column. The last time that we had as many as three shows that did not have matches to qualify for this column, it was the week of Christmas in 2012 when NXT, Superstars, and Ring of Honor had best of shows or other non-qualifying episodes.

Since we had another week where Raw did not set the world on fire with their wrestling totals, it turned out that we were not going to hit more than 100 minutes this week from the three shows that qualify for this column. This is the first time since the week of April 9, 2012 that we did not have more than 100 minutes of wrestling. In that week, only Ring of Honor did not air of the six shows that week, but Impact won the week with 22 minutes and was the only show to have more than 20 minutes of wrestling.

Going into the only remaining show to have matches that would qualify for this column, there was a chance for a three way tie at the top (and at the bottom because there were only three shows this week), but Ring of Honor had to ruin everything and have more wrestling than the two WWE programs to qualify this week.

Ring of Honor won the week with 30 minutes of wrestling. Raw and Smackdown tied for second with 26 minutes of wrestling. This was the first time since the September 29th episode of Raw that the show fell below 30 minutes of wrestling.

Last week, we hit 1,000 ten minutes matches overall. This week, the one WWE match that qualified as a ten minute match gave us 700 ten minute matches on WWE programming. We did pass 2,400 hours of wrestling this week.

The times for the matches on NXT Takeover: [R]Evolution were:
Kevin Owens versus CJ Parker: 3 Minutes
Kalisto and Sin Cara versus Aiden English and Simon Gotch: 7 Minutes
Tye Dillinger versus Baron Corbin: 1 Minute
Hideo Itami and Finn Balor versus Konnor and Viktor: 12 Minutes
Charlotte versus Sasha Banks: 12 Minutes
Sami Zayn versus Adrian Neville: 22 Minutes

To compare this special with its 57 minutes of wrestling, the other NXT two hour specials had the following amount of wrestling:
NXT Arrival: 62 Minutes
NXT Takeover 1: 65 Minutes
NXT Takeover 2: 51 Minutes
