HOW WWE SHOULD BE ADDING VINTAGE CONTENT TO THE NETWORK, ROH-GFW PARRTNERSHIP, LUCHA UNDERGROUND AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2014-11-06 10:00:07
I heard that ROH owner Joe Koff and Jeff Jarrett had a meeting to discuss some type of business relationship. Any indication of what it was about? I think a partnership between the two on national TV could knock Mr. McMahon off his high horse and get those creative juices flowing again.

I heard it was more of an introductory meeting then anything else. I think any discussion of any sort of partnership between the two sides is WAY premature. GFW doesn't have a roster yet, much less a show, much less a promotion to partner with others...yet.

I am here watching the second week of Lucha Underground and what I find most interesting is that commercials do not happen during the matches. How refreshing it is to see this. Hopefully they keep it up. Just wondering if you noticed and what your thoughts were on this innovation to TV wrestling.

I don't know if not going to commercial during the wrestling is truly an innovation, but obviously I like it. I think what we see there is what happens when the Network owns and produces the show - they can format it any way they please. As far as Lucha Underground, thus far, I have really enjoyed the product.

It seems that other than a few documentaries, the WWE Network has not put forth any new (classic) content on the channel since most people's original six-month subscription expired. Wouldn't this be the time, with the free month, to put their vast library to use? Or at least, tease it for December? I'm talking old Mid-South/UWF, Mid-Atlantic, Florida, AWA, etc. and ECW TV past mid-1995. Otherwise, I don't see people sticking around if they already gave up on the Network once.

Well, they just announced they are adding 40 hours of ECW TV as well as three classic ECW Arena live events, so there's your ECW content. I think WWE realizes that they can't put everything up at once or else the audience will quickly burn through it. I don't mind the company putting up new material over time. I do think, however, they would be far better served adding a new episode and/or big event a week for AWA, ECW, WCW, NWA, Florida, World Class and Mid-South so that fans have a reason to want to come back and watch the progression every week or via VOD. Instead of putting huge chunks out there, string the audience along week by week, the way those promotions did when they were in business.

After watching this weeks NXT and watching Sami Zayn deliver the corner exploder suplex to Titus O'neil, I couldn't help but feel like Zayn was doing his best to show that, given the chance, he can work with big wrestlers too. Do you think Zayn was trying to use the moment to shuck the small wrestler stereotypes?

I don't know about the stereotype, but I thought it was his way of showcasing how talented and versatile a performer he is inside the ring.

Is Cablevision carrying the New Japan Dome show?

The press release stated all cable providers, so I would assume that is indeed the case.
