One half of the TNA World Tag Team Champions, Eddie Edwards joined Doug Mortman and Dave Lagreca on Busted Open.. You can hear Busted Open on SiriusXM 92 and on the SiriusXM app. Also go to Busted OpenNation.com for all the details.
Where do you feel tag team wrestling is now?
That’s always been a problem, like whatever company is they just throw two guys together and thinking it’s going to work. You can’t force chemistry, you can’t force teams to work and build together. You got to have guys that are willing to work and that want to work together and tag together and have that connection and if they don’t have it, it is just not going to work. Right now you look at TNA and obviously the matches we been having with Team 3D and The Hardys. I don’t pay attention to a lot of stuff and hearing the fans saying that tag team wrestling has to be put back on the forefront and needs to be brought out and it could be forgot about easily from certain companies. That’s our goal is not to let that happen.
Is it weird not having the TNA World Tag Team Champions at Bound For Glory?
Yeah it’s weird; they were worried because of Davey’s injury recently and them wanting to play it safe. I understand that, and we love wrestling in Japan anyway, so we accept it for what it is, but of course we like to be there. It’s going to be a good card regardless so.
What is it about that relationship with Japan and Professional Wrestling?
The fans just show so much respect to it as a sport. That’s been everyone’s goal from the start is to have that respect and treat it like a sporting event than just pure entertainment. Over there you have to work to earn their respect and if you hear the crowds respond to you and get that reaction. That means you’re doing something right.
Is there pressure in pro wrestling that even when you’re hurt you have to continue wrestling?
Definitely, there is nobody that is 100%. You’re always beat up, bumped and bruised and that is something you have to go through and work through. Especially right now in me and Davey’s position; we are the World Tag Team champions and we want to go out and show what we can do each and every week especially with these matches. We have been having trying to step it up every time we are in there and it is something we pride ourselves on. It just comes with the territory and we know that.
How did you guys choose TNA as a home?
TNA felt like it is a better place and a better fit. Somewhere we can go right to TV and start showing the world what we are capable up. Yeah we went down to the WWE and we had a tryout, but we just didn’t mesh and if we had to weigh our options we would probably say TNA is a better place for us.
Any thought on the unsettled status of the TV contract with TNA?
We can’t control anything like that it is out of our hands. I know just as far as me and Davey, we can’t think about it. We are just there to wrestle. We go out there and do our job. We hope, we assume, we figure it will all work out in the end. We can’t waste our time thinking about and we can’t do anything about it.
Eddie also talked about wrestling at in NYC, the influence of the British Bulldogs and improving on the mic.
