WWE

THE FUTURE OF THE WYATT FAMILY

As I discussed in my PWInsider.com Elite audio yesterday, the vignettes featuring Bray Wyatt telling Luke Harper that he has been set free is the start of the Wyatt Family splitting up.

The plan is to have Wyatt, Harper and Erick Rowan go their separate ways. The trio has been together since their run in WWE NXT.

WHAT WILL BE HEADLINING HELL IN A CELL AND HOW WWE LOOKS TO BE GETTING THERE

As I reported yesterday in the Elite section of PWInsider.com, the 2014 WWE Hell in A Cell PPV looks to be headlined by Seth Rollins facing either John Cena or Dean Ambrose.

In the weeks leading to the PPV, WWE will continue building the issues between Cena and Ambrose before they finally face off for the right to meet Rollins inside the Cell.

As we've previously reported, WWE World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is not currently slated for the PPV.

WWE APOLOGIZES FOR ANGLE ON RAW

WWE issued the following statement on their website yesterday afternoon:

"We at WWE would like to apologize to the Russian people for the incident on Monday Night Raw that could have been construed as disrespect for their nation's flag."

During Raw, Big Show ripped down the giant Russian flag that has hung over the ring during segments involving Rusev and Lana.

WWE NETWORK-CANADA UPDATE

STEPHANIE MCMAHON COMMENTS ON POTENTIAL CM PUNK RETURN

Stephanie McMahon appeared on WGN in Chicago this morning to promote tonight's Raw taping in Rosemont, IL (they say Chicago on TV, but it's really outside of the city) and the annual Susan G. Komen campaign.

Interesting to note that since they were in CM Punk's hometown, McMahon was asked about the potential of Punk returning to WWE and responded, "CM Punk is an incredible character, and we’ve had a lot of fun with him, and who knows what the future holds."

You can see the video of the McMahon appearance at this link. Thanks to Gregory Davis for sending along the video.

The campaign will also be featured on the hit reality series Total Divas, in an episode that airs on Sunday, October 19 at 9 pm ET on E!. Throughout the month, the WWE announcer table, entrance ramp and ring skirts will be co-branded and the middle ring rope turned pink to promote the fight against breast cancer. In addition, a co-branded WWE and Susan G. Komen flag will be flown outside of WWE’s corporate headquarters.

“WWE has made a tremendous commitment to women and men facing breast cancer, not only in October during National Breast Cancer Awareness month but all year round,” said Komen President and CEO Judith A. Salerno, M.D., M.S. “WWE’s partnership has raised funds for Komen’s research and health programs, and helped us reach millions of people with potentially life-saving information about their risk for breast cancer. “Susan G. Komen has truly transformed the world’s support for breast cancer research and awareness,” said WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon. “WWE is exceptionally proud to continue our partnership with Komen and be at the forefront of this movement, as we continue to utilize our global platforms to raise awareness and funds for a disease that affects so many people.”

Susan G. Komen and WWE have a history of success in raising awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. The partnership launched in 2012 with the successful “Rise Above Cancer” campaign and has generated more than $1.2 million for Komen to date. The two organizations also partnered for “Make Mom Proud,” a campaign that coincided with Mother’s Day and called on supporters to do something meaningful for their moms and other important women in the their lives. This past May, Komen and WWE teamed up again for National Women’s Health Week with a campaign to remind women how a healthy lifestyle is critical in the fight against breast cancer.

Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest nonprofit funder of breast cancer research, and funds community outreach programs, public advocacy and global programs. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women in the United States. There are 3million breast cancer survivors in the United States today. For more information about Susan G. Komen, breast health or breast cancer, visit komen.org/wwe or call 1-877GOKOMEN.

DETAILS BEHIND PRINCE DEVITT'S NEW WWE PERSONA

Prince Devitt, now known as Finn Balor, sent out the following yesterday via Twitter to explain the origins of his new ring name:

"Finn" is from the term "Fionn mac Cumhaill", the Irish translation of the name of a mythical warrior. "Balor" is Celtic for "Deadly One."

So, the origin of the name is similar to the origins of Itami (which translates into "pain" in Japanese) in the new ring name for the former KENTA.

THE ROCK TO TAKE ON THE JANSON DIRECTIVE

The Rock announced on Twitter that he's signed on to star in a feature film adaptation of "The Janson Directive", the final novel from Jason Bourne series novelist Robert Ludlow, which was published after his passing.

The original novel's promotional material reads: "When billionaire philanthropist Peter Novak is kidnapped by a terrorist known as The Caliph, it's up to Paul Janson - a legend in the notorious U.S. covert agency Consular Operations - to save him. But Janson's rescue operation goes horribly wrong...and soon Janson is marked for death, the target of a "beyond salvage" order issued from the highest level of the government. Now Janson is running for his life, pursued by Jessica Kincaid, a young agent of astonishing ability who can anticipate and counter his every move. To survive, Janson must outrace a conspiracy that has gone beyond the control of its originators. To win, he must counter it with a conspiracy of his own."

Akiva Goldsman has been hired to write the screenplay.

WWE STOCKHOLDER LAWSUITS UPDATE

Earlier this month, a motion was filed in the United States District Court of Connecticut by several plaintiffs suing WWE over their alleged conduct during the time frame they were negotiating new TV deals (where the stock jumped due to speculation), requesting that the lawsuits all be consolidated into one suit against the company.

On 9/26, WWE filed a motion saying they agreed and also requested that all the lawsuits be merged into one case.

A ruling has not yet been issues on the requests.

FULL DETAILS ON WWE 2K15'S 'MY CAREER' MODE, FIVE NXT TALENTS CONFIRMED FOR GAME

The following press release was issued on 9/30:

2K Announces MyCareer Details for WWE® 2K15

First-ever comprehensive career mode in WWE video game history takes players on the journey from prospective WWE Superstar to WWE World Heavyweight Champion

New York, NY – September 30, 2014 – 2K today announced additional details for MyCareer in WWE® 2K15, the forthcoming release in the flagship WWE video game franchise. Making its debut as the first comprehensive, career-driven mode in WWE games history, MyCareer will take players through the life of a prospective WWE Superstar, allowing them to experience the journey of being a rookie and working toward the ultimate goal of winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Players will begin MyCareer by taking characters they create in WWE 2K15’s Creation Suite to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. While there, they will be trained by former WWE Superstar and WWE Performance Center head coach Bill DeMott, as they navigate a series of objectives. Successful completion of the objectives will lead players to compete at NXT, WWE’s developmental system for rising young talent, where they will continue with matches and new objectives. At NXT, they will encounter a roster of new and future WWE Superstars, including Rusev, Bo Dallas, Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn and Corey Graves, all of whom will also be available as playable characters.

After mastering their skills in NXT, players will move up to WWE’s main roster, where General Manager Vickie Guerrero will set matches and keep her Superstars focused through ultimatums designed to gain bonus rewards. Players will develop alliances and rivalries while competing to win spots on WWE pay-per-view events and flagship shows like Monday Night Raw® and SmackDown®. They will also compete for the United States Championship and Intercontinental Championship. Successful players will make their way to SummerSlam® and WrestleMania®, where the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line as the top MyCareer prize.

Decisions made throughout the WWE developmental process, including alliances, rivalries and social media interactions, will impact player personality traits and crowd reactions. As players progress throughout the mode, they will also have opportunities in-game to upgrade their attributes, acquire new abilities, skills and moves, earn new clothing and unlock managers. These decisions, along with a player’s win/loss record, will lead to multiple branching storylines, surprises, twists and turns that offer significant replay value to explore different career paths.

“MyCareer is a mode beloved by our NBA 2K fans and is a perfect fit for WWE 2K15,” said Greg Thomas, President at Visual Concepts. “We are eager to deliver a comprehensive career mode experience for the first time and consider its inclusion a critical step forward for the franchise.”

Developed collaboratively by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, a 2K studio, WWE 2K15 is rated T for Teen by the ESRB. WWE 2K15 is scheduled for release on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft on October 28, 2014 in North America and October 31, 2014 internationally. In addition, releases for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, are currently scheduled for release on November 18, 2014 in North America and November 21, 2014 internationally. Fans who pre-order WWE 2K15 at any participating retailer will receive two playable Sting characters at no extra cost on launch day.

NEWS AND NOTES

The WWE Network will now launch in Great Britain on 11/1, according to an announcement made by Michael Cole on Raw. The Network was originally slated to premiere in the UK in early October. WWE Network posted on their twitter regarding the delay in launching in the UK: "The launch of @WWENetwork in the U.K. will be delayed given discussions with potential partners. A launch date will be announced by Nov. 1." So, they are possibly looking to bring the Network to that country as a full-blown channel, not just an online Over the Top service.

For those of you who wanted Wrestlemania 31 travel packages through WWE, the website went live today at this link.

WWE has already placed all of the Susan G. Komen campaign merchandise on sale at WWEShop.com to support the fight against breast cancer.

Max in Toledo noted that Goldust missed the house shows over the weekend. We are told he had scheduled the weekend off for a vacation.

Kevin Nash has a role in the upcoming Keanu Reeves film "John Wick." The film, a thriller, will be released on 10/24 in theaters.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is now the third best grossing Marvel Studios film ever.

WWE will be running a live event in Wichita Falls, TX on 11/30 and broadcasting Monday Night Raw on Monday 12/1 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tickets will go on sale this weekend. Smackdown will be taped on 12/2 in Oklahoma City.

The 12/15 Raw the day after the WWE TLC PPV will be in Detroit, Michigan at the Joe Louis Arena.

WWE announced that Roman Reigns would be appearing on next Monday’s Raw taping in Brooklyn, NY to address his recent hernia surgery. Big Show vs. Rusev has also been announced for Monday’s Raw.

The headline bout for tomorrow’s episode of Main Event is Bo Dallas vs. Mark Henry.

The main event of tomorrow’s WWE Smackdown in Milwaukee is Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz and Damien Mizdow.

Sitting ringside at Raw in Chicago was Rev. Jesse Jackson.

WWE Studios’ “Leprechaun: Origins” starring Hornswoggle will be officially released on DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow.

Our friends at www.TheHistoryofWWE.com are putting the finishing touches on their latest book, which will chronicle 50 years of WWE history at Madison Square Garden. The plan is to have the book ready for release by Halloween weekend.

Capstone Publishing will be releasing children’s books on Rey Mysterio, The Big Show and great Pro Wrestling Rivalries in February 2015. As a matter of full disclosure, I worked as a consultant on the aforementioned.

WWE Network will broadcast the second part of the WWE 2K15 videogame roster reveal today at 4:30 PM Eastern. A funny note on last week's reveal broadcast - since it was filmed before a live audience, there were cheers and boos as talents were being announced. When it came time for CM Punk's name to be announced, stone cold silence, so obviously there was some post-production involved there. I tend to believe they simply inserted Punk into the show after the fact, because had they announced Punk live over Summerslam weekend, we would have gotten excited reports from fans. What makes that entire scenario sad is that at the same time they presented it as if no one cared about Punk, they are using his image to push the WWE Network in that $9.99 jingle commercial.

WWE Studios' "Celebrity Death Pool" will be filming shooting this week.

The 9/28 episode of Total Divas had three major storylines. The first was that Bryan Danielson and Nikki Bella teamed up to confront Brie Bella over her behavior lashing out at them and just being a mean person. It turned out that Brie was stressing because she was off the road and was worried about her job (this was filmed during the period she "quit" in storylines), even though the idea WWE was going to fire the wife of one of their biggest stars while she was involved in his storyline was beyond ludicrous. The second story was that once again, Natalya felt let down and was unhappy with her husband Tyson Kidd for not doing something special for her birthday and buying her a gift (exercise equipment) that he really wanted for herself. This leads to Rosa Mendes throwing her a party and attempting to kiss her to show her that she's really beautiful and wanted. Natalya obviously freaked out at that and the show looks to be building to a Kidd-Natalya split. The third plot was Naomi/Trinity learning she needs surgery to has a polyp in her uterus removed and her trying to come to terms with that and the issues her slow process in the decision-making brings into her marriage. For those of you who love your 1980s tag team wrestling, there is also a Jim Neidhart cameo!

No Raw Post-Game Show again on The Network, so that appears to have gone the way of the dinosaur. A new episode Monday Night War focusing on Steve Austin will air tonight after Raw.

A new episode of WWE Countdown focused on the ten best Superstar costumes will air tomorrow.

Michael Hayes is releasing new music via iTunes. He released a song titled, "Why Can't the Children Pray in School?" Hayes noted on Twitter there was more music forthcoming. No word on a full re-release for his old CD.

The new Sting DVD features a photo of "NWO Sting" on the back. That is going to be replaced on new printings of the set.

Hunter Pence of The San Francisco Giants led fans in a "Yes" chant over the weekend. HallofVeryGood.com featured a piece on it while noting that the origins of the chant were overlooked. Thanks to Shawn Anderson.

Former WWE, WCW and ECW star Big Vito was married over the weekend. Our best to him and his lovely bride.

This week's WWE NXT will feature:

*NXT champion Adrian Neville vs. Tyson Kidd.
*NXT Women's champion Charlotte vs. Bayley.
*Hideo Itami vs. Viktor.
*Baron Corbin in action.
*The Vaudevillains vs. Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger.

You can read Richard Trionfo's Raw report by clicking here.

After the celebration over Cena and Ambrose laying in the ring, Kane, Orton and Kane headed to the back. Bray Wyatt came out with Harper and Rowan to a good pop. Wyatt commands the family to attack. They threw Cena out of ring and set up sister Abigail for Ambrose. Ambrose reverses, Cena then comes in. Finishers hit on Rowan and Harper. Cena and Ambrose stare down. Cena taunts, crowd boos, Ambrose taunts and the arena goes crazy. Repeat. Chicago really doesn't like Cena. It goes back and forth several times and Ambrose begins to taunt Cena all about his jeers. Cena walks to the back and applauds Ambrose. Ambrose ' music plays him out as he celebrates ringside. He spends a good amount of time with the fans. Ambrose then runs back down the ramp and jumps on the announce table as they were trying to break it down, definitely messing with the crew. Ambrose was definitely the most over of the night, even surpassing Hogan.

The official preview for WWE Countdown tonight on the WWE Network: "Counting down the top ten most stylish ring attire ever worn by a WWE Superstar."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" with Dave Bautista will be released on DVD snd Blu-Ray on 12/9.

The Rock recently filmed scenes for "Fast & Furious: Supercharged", a new theme park experience coming to Universal Studios Hollywood that will utilize a 360 degree giant movie screen and 3D technology. The theme park already has a similar attraction for "King Kong" that is pretty damn awesome.

JBL announced today that he is shutting down his website, “The Layfield Report”. He posted the following message as to why he is doing so: “We want to thank all the readers and people who have viewed Layfield Report. It has been a pleasure building a site that, hopefully, has been a joy to visit. Unfortunately for the site, Michael Cole and I are joining another media company that will house our podcast, videos, radio shows and our social media. This has been a hard decision but we feel confident that our new platform will give us the opportunity to spread our message more. We believe the world is centrist and that our politicians on both sides have let us down-we want to offer solutions and feel that the bigger established platform will help us do just that. We also just enjoy discussing current events as we are both news junkies. Thank you kindly for visiting our site and subscribing to our newsletter. We will have more info the week of October 20th to share. Because we are going to a bigger platform we are shutting down our site since it would be competition against our new home. Soon, John and Michael both will be on over 300 terrestrial radio stations in the US and all the elements of the Layfield Report will live on, just a different form. Thank you again and we will give plenty of updates as soon as we are allowed.”

The World Premiere for Kane’s “See No Evil 2” is set for Fright Fest in Los Angeles, CA on 10/15. Kane is scheduled to be there.

Randy Orton granted a Make A Wish on 9/28 in Toledo, OH. It is so awesome that WWE is a big part of such a worthy program.

Chuck Carroll sent this item. … Fresh from filming the movie Gridlocked, Trish Stratus was my guest on the Turnbuckle Weekly with Chuck Carroll. We talked about her new Stratusphere Yoga DVD and what draws pro wrestlers to it.  She said Lita actually suggested she try hot yoga while she was battling a herniated disc in her back.  Stratus did, fell in love with it and the rest, as they say, is history. She says Joey Styles and Lance Armstrong are also fans of her brand of Yoga. The full 20-minute interview explores how yoga saved her career and offers a critique on what's missing from today's WWE Divas. She also talked about filming the movie Gridlocked. Actor Kurt Fuller was interviewed about his career on AVClub.com. His role in "No Holds Barred" was brought up and he referred to the film, as "one of those that’s so bad it’s good." On getting the role, Fuller said, "gain, an early job, and I still knew nothing about acting. I was a terrible actor, and that’s why I got the job: I would allow myself to be so bad that I lowered and got down to WWF standards. [Laughs.] I’m sort of this insane Donald Trump-like head of the network, and I was working with Hulk Hogan. I have nothing bad to say about Hulk Hogan. In fact, compared to what I have seen in the press and all the high jinks of his life, I didn’t see any of that coming, man. He was just a businessman who worked out, you know?" Fuller discusses working with Hogan and more in the interview, which you can read at this link.

KURT ANGLE TALKS ABOUT HOW MUCH LONGER HE WILL WRESTLE, MEETING WITH VINCE MCMAHON AND MORE

AlternativeNation.net>'s Wrestling section published an exclusive in-depth interview with Kurt Angle today.  In the interview, Angle reveals when he will retire, hints at where his next contract might be, talks recently reconnecting with Vince McMahon, reveals Triple H's real current WWE role, gives his thoughts on Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling, describes a recent discussion he had with Dixie Carter about TNA's future, remembers working with Chris Benoit, and gives his candid thoughts on Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo.  CLICK HERE to read the full interview, and read highlights below:

On when he will retire: "I can’t really say who I’m going with yet or what company I’m going to sign with. I am going to sign, but I’m going to just sign for 1 year, and that’s that. I think I’m pretty much done, I’m just going to have the best year I can have. Hopefully it’ll be my best year, then I’m going to retire."

On TNA's TV future: "Well at the TV’s we just did, Dixie Carter and ‘Big’ John Gaburick sat the talent down and eased their minds a little bit, because I think a lot of the talent were a little bit confused and nervous regarding what was going on. I had a private sit down with Dixie, she reassured me of what was going on, and what her plans were. It was a good meeting, it was a very positive meeting. She just knows that the next deal that they sign really has to help benefit TNA, in every regard."

On his recent talks with Vince McMahon: "The only person that I really spoke my piece with, that I had a lot to do with in the past, and the problems I had and the way I left the company, I was able to speak my piece with Vince, and I’m happy with that. As long as Vince and I don’t have any issues, I’m okay with that. What I found out is that Triple H is pretty much running the show now. I didn’t know that, I really believed that Vince would always run the show until the day he died, but now they’re in a position as a publicly traded company where you’re not only answering to Vince and Triple H, you’re also answering to the shareholders."

On the WWE Hall of Fame: "Yeah, like I said, I’m not going to say where I’m heading next, but the Hall of Fame would definitely be an option; I’m not going to count that out. It’s a big honor, it would be important to me. Is it the most important thing? No. Obviously being inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and International Wrestling Hall of Fame for Olympic style wrestling is the most important thing to me. But it is still important to me, because I’ve definitely made a legacy for myself in pro wrestling, and I take a lot of pride in it, I love the business. The Hall of Fame would be nice. Would it be the end of the world if I wasn’t inducted? No, but it would be an honor."

ROH, DGUSA AND OTHER NEWS

LATEST ON DRAGON GATE WRESTLERS RETURNING TO UNITED STATES, FORMER ROH STAR JOINS THE WWNLIVE TOUR OF CHINA AND MORE

WWNLive.com is currently beta-testing their Roku channel.

Obviously the big news is the tour of China. I am told WWNLive.com will be bringing 28 people total over for ther ten day tour. The talent roster will be mostly made up of DGUSA and EVOLVE regulars. There will be some announcements made once the company has all the travel visas in hand and ready to go. There will be no Dragon Gate wrestlers from Japan on the tour.

One talent who will be working the show is Lacey of Ring of Honor fame. She's actually currently living in China while studying abroad, so she will work the tour.

On the Dragon Gate USA front, the visa issue has finally been worked out so now, of course that they have squared that away, the new problem is finding dates that can work for both the Japanese and American sides on the calendar. The only dates that actually line up so far are the exact week that WWNLive is going to China. So, stay tuned.

The company is also finalizing their December dates. They will have talent from Japan as long as the dates line up with Dragon Gate's schedule in Japan. Most likely, they will be running in Florida but there's a chance they could be in NYC.

The company was thrilled with the response to their most recent NYC shows. They are up for VOD replays at www.WWNLive.com.

JEFF JARRETT TO RETURN TO NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING FOR OCT. 13’S “KING OF PRO-WRESTLING” EVENT IN TOKYO

NASHVILLE – Jeff Jarrett, whose visit to New Japan Pro Wrestling ostensibly to sign a partnership between that promotion and the Jarrett-helmed Global Force Wrestling at the G1 Climax event only to see the legendary wrestler/promoter join the “Bullet Club,” will make his return to NJPW for “King of Pro-Wrestling” on Oct. 13,

Jarrett appeared at the G1 show at the Seibu Dome in August at the invitation of Naoki Sugabayashi, chairman of the board of NJPW. After signing the agreement to exchange talent and co-promote some major events, Jarrett appeared later during the event after a match between IWGP heavyweight champion A.J. Styles and Tanahashi. With Styles and the rest of the Bullet Club administering a post-match beatdown to the Japanese star, Jarrett looked as though he was breaking up the melee. But, he pulled out a guitar with the words “Bullet Club” on the back and proceeded to smash it over Tanahashi’s head and reveal his allegiance to the hottest faction in pro wrestling.

“It was a business trip, and I took care of a lot of business,” Jarrett said. “Not only did I seal a deal for Global Force Wrestling with the hottest promotion in the Eastern Hemisphere, but I aligned with the biggest thing going in this business.

“It’s important for GFW fans to see us get involved with the best talent in the world. The Bullet Club certainly qualifies, and I’m looking forward to what we have in store for The King of Pro-Wrestling show.”

Styles will defend the IWGP title against Tanahashi in the main event. The rest of the Bullet Club will be in action as well, including IWGP tag team champions Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows.

GFW announced its partnership with NJPW on June 23, and plans already are in the works for the first co-promoted event.

MICHAEL ELGIN-US RETURN UPDATE

Michael Elgin, former ROH World Champion, has been stranded in his native Canada due to not having updated documents that will allow him to return to the United States.

In an update to that situation, Greg Davis sent this item.

AAW out of Chicago announced yesterday that Michael Elgin would be returning on their October 17 show. Not sure if that means he’s back in the US today, or will be in a few weeks. Hopefully it’s not a case of AAW announcing it, and then hoping he can make it.
