The latest in news from across the Indy Nation (formerly Indy Landscape):

Combat Zone Wrestling

Combat Zone Wrestling held "Down With the Sickness 2014" on Saturday 9/13 in Voorhees, NJ, drawing 312 paid.  The company was a little disappointed with the crowd, given that there were a number of former CZW regulars coming in as a one-time deal. as they were in town for the annual Chris Cash Memorial, honoring the former CZW Tag Team champion, who passed away in 2005 following a motorcycle accident.  Cash's family were in attendance at the show.

In for the show were Adam Flash, Nate Webb and the returning Ruckus, who had not been here in some time after taking a booking elsewhere the same night as a CZW event.  Ruckus replaced Messiah, who we were told had a personal issue that prevented him from flying to the Northeast for the event.

Results of the show, which is available now for replay VOD purchases at this link.

*In a CZW Dojo match, Qefka The Quiet defeated Jack Jahova.  CZW is now running bi-weekly shows at their Dojo in New Jersey.  Qefka suffered a broken arm.

*Papadon, who will be a regular here going forward, was cutting a promo when Joe Gacy came out to interupt.  That set up a match, which saw Papadon get the win with a low blow.  Papadon continued beating Gacy down after the match.  The gimmick is that Papadon has come to "cleanse" CZW.  CZW owner DJ Hyde is really high on Papadon, so expect a pretty sizeable push.

*BLK Jeez defeated Pepper Parks (with Cherry Bomb) by submission with a Boston Crab in what was said to have been a good match.  Parks and Cherry do a deal where they are in great shape and rip on the fans for not being healthy.

*Team Tremendous (Dan Barry and Bill Carr) defeated ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey and ‘Dirty’ Buxx Belmar.  Tremendous and Bailey have been given dates through the end of the year by the promotion.

*Alexander James defeated Preacher James.  The deal here was that Preacher had Alexander beat, but once the referee was distracted, Alexander's security team did the beatdown, allowing Alexander to get the win.

*DJ Hyde defeated Kimber Lee via disqualification after Chris Dickinson made his return ton the company to a big pop.  Hyde vs. Dickinson is the direction they will be going into the Cage of Death event.  Hyde ended up with a black eye here.  Hyde is planning to scale back his appearances in the company's storylines but I'll believe that one when I see it.

*In an eight man tag, Drew Gulak & Adam Flash & Spyder Nate Webb & Ruckus defeated The Front (CZW champion Biff Busick & Eric Corvis & Sozio & the returning Andy Sumner, who used to tag with Gulak).  The finish saw Gulak pin Busick with a piledriver, so now he has a win over the champion.  They teased issues with Busick and Sozio after the match, which is leading somewhere.

*Homicide defeated Joker after a Yakuza kick in what was said to have been a good match.

*CZW Wired (TV) Champion Shane Strickland came out claiming he was getting the night off and wouldn't be defending his title.  Devon Moore came out and ripped him, trying to get Strickland to defend the belt but Strickland blew him off.  This was the tease of a new program for down the line.

*Matt Tremont defeated Lucky THURTeen after hitting a running powerbomb onto thumbtacks.  This was said to have been a really wild match, especially when you consider Lucky worked with a badly torn groin.  Tremont cut a promo after saying he had beaten everyone in the Nation of Intoxication.  This brought out Devon Moore to set up a match that will headline the Tangled Web event.

*CZW Tag Team champions The Juicy Product defeated Ohio Is For Killers (Dave and Jake Crist) and The Beaver Boys (Alex Reynolds and John Silver) in what was billed as the Chris Cash Memorial Ladder Match.  All sorts of crazy weapons and bumps.  Jake Crist took a nutty bump off a a ladder through two tables.   Starr suffered a concussion during the bout but was OK the next day.

We mentioned the biweekly CZW Dojo Wars shows featuring talents.  The company will be starting a new theme for the shows, the "Tournament of Valor" which will feature their talents.  Drew Gulak is the head trainer with DJ Hyde also training.

WSU

Prior to the CZW event, sister promotion WSU ran an iPPV, which can be ordered via VOD at this link.  The biggest news coming out of the show was that new TNA signee Jessicka Havok was pulled from the show.  CZW had purchased a flight for her from Florida for the event and the week of the show, TNA's Christy Hemme began communicating that Havok wouldn't be able to work the show.  The two sides went back and forth all week until the final decision was made the day before.  Solo Darling was brought in at the last second as a substitute.

The best matches on the WSU show were said to be The Juicy Product vs. Kimber Lee & Annie Social, followed by Athena vs. Hania.

There was an angle in the main event where DJ Hyde attacked LuFisto and then "killed" her mascot doll.  Apparently, LuFisto is phasing out the gimmick and this is part of an evolution of her character everywhere.

Additional CZW Notes:

The original plan for Tangled Web was to headline with Danny Havoc vs. Matt Tremont.  Havoc suffered a broken foot in multiple places and will be out until at least November.  He's hoping to come back sooner but it depends on how he heals.  The silver lining in that bad news was that he wasn't going to require surgery.

Ricochet is off the company's return to Dayton, Ohio on 9/27 as he was pulled by Lucha Underground.  They are taping TV that weekend in Los Angeles.  He was slated to headline, challenging CZW champion Biff Busick.  The company is not happy they advertised that match and now can't deliver.  The show is being booked.  CZW Tag Team champions The Juicy Product vs. OI4K (The Crists) will headline, which makes sense as the challengers are from Dayton.  Drew Gulak will now challenge Busick for the belt, which will be awesome.  Kimber Lee vs. Nevea is also set.  The remainder of the undercard will be reworked.

The company is working on ideas and attractions for their November NY debut in Deer Park, NY as a way to draw a good house the first time out.
