ROCKSTAR SPUD ADDRESSES THE SPIKE TV-IMPACT SITUATION, HOW HIS CHARACTER DEVELOPED, WHO WILL BE ON BRITISH BOOTCAMP 2 AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2014-07-30 15:38:33

Rockstar Spud participated in a conference call today to promote British Bootcamp 2 and The One Night Only "X Division Xtravaganza" PPV.

The first question asked Spud about what his career has been like since he won British Bootcamp 1 last year.  Spud corrected him and said it was two years ago.  He said it's been a whirlwind and nonstop for him.  He is living the dream.  He said that he has had the last two weeks off and he doesn't know what to do with himself.  He said it's amazing, everything he thought it would be.  He said that learning down in OVW was great as well.  He talked about main-eventing house shows with EC3 and being in a top TV angle. It's great.

He was asked about the second set of talent for the new Bootcamp.  He said that he doesn't envy any of them because the talent is so good.  He said whoever wins will be a true superstar since there are so many people involved in the show this time.  He only had to go against three people.  He said it's an amazing opportunity.  He said it's a rare opportunity, especially in the UK.

He was asked about how he worked for years before the first Bootcamp and what he got out of it.  He said he had been wrestling about 10 years and picked things up along the way but it is not the same as doing it full time.  Working with more experienced talent lets you learn more and more quickly.  Going to OVW is what made him since he got to wrestle full time and learn.

He was asked if there was any problems working with Dixie Carter, as in being nervous.  He said only when it comes down being in the right place to make sure she gets "saved".  He said that he had to be there to make sure she was taken care of.

He was asked what the future held for him.  Will he take a different route than what he is taking now.  He basically said that he will continue doing his character and he can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring.  He wants to knock it out of the park and be someone the company can rely on.  He wants to be an asset and he feels he will continue to be that.

He was asked about bringing a Bootcamp to Australia.  He said hasn't heard of anything but he has heard a lot of talk about it.  He said he would like to take a look at the good talent down under.

He was asked what it was like to work with Team 3D, Tommy Dreamer and Rhino last week.  He said there was a lot of limping and pain, but he wouldn't change a thing.  He said it was one of the best moments of his career, working with people who grew up enjoying and admiring them.  It was an honor being in the ring with them.

He was asked how he ended up working as Dixie's assistant as opposed to working as a wrestler.  He said he was brought up from OVW and given the gimmick.  He said he feels he has owned the Chief Of Staff job and no one will take it away from him.

He was asked about how he got into the business.  He said growing up he enjoyed the business.  He said he was told at school that he was too small to play any sport that he loved.  He said that he believed he was not too small to be involved in pro wrestling.  He said he never shied away from his size or his look.  He said he 5'4" and 150 pounds but he has the personality of someone that should be 7 foot tall and 500 pounds.  British Bootcamp did that for him.  He said that a lot of wrestlers have told him that when they first saw him they saw nothing in him but as they get to see him work they change their minds and that means a lot to him.

He was asked what his role will be in the events above.  He said he was in the qualifiers in the PPV, taking on Sanjay Dutt.  He said that he can't say what his involvement will or won't be in Bootcamp but he doesn't see how you can have the show without an appearance from the first winner.

A guy from Portugal asked about a woman wrestler from Portugal and some of the talent that will be on the show.  Rampage Brown will be on the show.  He said he didn't hear anything about the Portugese girl wrestler.

He was asked about the TV negotiations with Spike TV.  He said he doesn't really have any thoughts on it because it's not his department.  He said that there are ongoing talks with them and their have been, but his job is to be Rockstar Spud and do what he does.

He was asked about Vince Russo.  Spud said that he was a nice man when they met and he appreciated that Russo write a nice blog about him.  He said that they are both fans and they now text back and forth.  He said he was taken aback by the column that Russo wrote about him.

He was asked about tips for looking dapper in the winter.  He gave him some.  Drink hot tea and sit by the fireplace and watch Impact.

He was asked who he grew up watching from British.  He said he wasn't around for the classic British workers.  He became a fan when he saw Hulk Hogan with a bandana and the American Flag.  He said he watched World Of Sport and saw classic guys like Johnny Saint, Rollerball Rocco and Fit Finlay.  He said that they made you really believe and they were ahead of their time (which is a shoot).  He said he is a student of entertainment and wrestling and tries to pick up things from everything he sees.

He was asked to elaborate on who would on the show.  Martin Stone from NXT, Rampage Brown (who was selected by Samoa Joe).  He said he may be the favorite since Joe selected him.  He said Joe is the best wrestler in the world.  The Owen Twins (females) will be in as well.

He was asked what it was like to work in the six sided ring.  He said great, there is more room.  He thinks it gives TNA an identity.  He said it makes the product jump out as being different.  He said he said he hasn't heard anything negative about it and he said he enjoys it.

He was asked if he thinks one of the big PPVs would come to the UK.  He said he hopes so, he would love it.  He said he hoped it would be in his hometown in Birmingham and that he was in a title match.  He said that he said on Bootcamp that he would be a champion in TNA so that would be great.  He said any of the British guys in TNA going for a Title would be a great moment for TNA if it happened in the UK.

He was asked where he got the ideas to wear the colorful suits and where does he get them.  He says he does dress that way 24-7 and people know who he is when he walks through an airport.  He said that the suits weren't planned but he has free reign for the direction of his character.  He said that what you see on TV is him.  He is a jerk in and out of the ring.  He has a place that sends them for him.  He has some special ones ready for the August tapings.

He was asked who is the standout in the company that he enjoys watching the most.  He said that's easy, EC3.  He put over EC3 in character.  He then said he will be one of the biggest stars in the business.  He said a previous company dropped the ball with him (that is WWE in NXT).  He then put him over as a great guy.  He said Bully Ray is a great performer as well.  He said that if he was around in the 80s with Hulk Hogan, Hogan would have placed second.  He thinks he is a great performer.  He loves the Bro Mans too.  And Sanada is garbage.  Magnus and Bram are tremendous.  The Wolves.  Basically everyone is great on the roster.  He said no roster can match TNA's.

The last question asked him about him being a jerk in real life.  He asked if he gets any resentment in the locker room for getting so much so fast.  He said he hasn't noticed if so.  He said he just does his job.  He doesn't worry about it.  He was asked who his football team and he said Everton. The guy said said that his team was Man U and Spud heeled him.

Spud came off really well on the call.  The PPV debuts this Friday.
