RODDY PIPER TALKS ABOUT BEING STABBED, PAINTING HIMSELF, HULK HOGAN AND MORE

By Ryan Rider on 2014-07-29 08:14:30

Highlights from interview with "Rowdy" Roddy Piper on Main Event Radio conducted by Ryan Rider & Ilan Preisler

On Montreal:

Last time I was in Montreal I was about 16 years old. I used to live in a place called Dollard-des-Ormeaux [a suburb], and was living with Mad Dog Vachon, He used to call me “le cocksucker”.  One night Mad Dog got in the ring, and I wrestled him in the first match. He told me to get your street clothes on and get out of the ring. There was about to be a riot and there was no police.

Mad Dog found the ringleader and he said to me to “Hit him cocksucker” and I hit him good. Jos Leduc was there as well as Gypsy Joe and the Cuban Assasins. Gypsy Joe takes a knife and there's this kid with a tire-iron. Gypsy Joe grabs his hair and he cuts him. There was blood. So Mad Dog said to me, my pet name cocksucker grab the car and I grabbed the car and we were three people we all jumped in.

After 42 years in the business, does he have any bubblegum left in the tank:

I guess if it's against Vince McMahon or Vince Russo I would wrestle again, those would be for free.

I recently saw [Hulk] Hogan for the first time in years. I told him I'm the reason that he has no hair.

I was in Newfoundland and I stopped where Adrian Adonis died. Wrestlemania 3. And when we were 22 years old we were a tag team in Los Angeles called the Twenty-Twos. Adrian was an orphan and he believed that I was his brother. We used to do 3 weeks of television tapings in one day in Poughkeepsie. By 6/7pm the bathrooms would have no toilet paper. Tugboat had just taken a poop, Earthquake was in there. One time we just all left early.

George “The Animal” Steele's green tongue with his clorettes. You wanna know something, Hogan is just as hairy as George Steele if he didn't shave.

I've been stabbed 3 successful times, one of them right near my heart. I've been electrocuted, I've survived cancer. I've had a broken neck; I broke it again and didn't know, have 7 screws in there right now. I've been married for a long time which is a rarity in this business. I can't figure out how to beat her, she keeps kicking out.

I think the playing field needs to get more leveled. There's too much of one thought track in the business. The reason I was so successful is because I worked with a whole lot of old timers – Mad Dog, Jacques Rougeau, Jos Leduc, Gino Brito, Dino Bravo. They took care of me and they taught me. Now they're not doing that; they're just stamping out bodies with interchangeable heads. They're not giving people the chance to come out of their shell and be who they are.

Try painting yourself half-black. I was walking around the arena in Toronto. Pat Patterson was with me and Vince McMahon and they told me that they want me to wrestle Bad News Brown. I said I don't want to work with Bad News, and then I said I'm going to paint myself half-black. And Vince looks at me and says “I love you.” Bad News Brown took it wrong.  He was just a bland wrestler and I knew I had to do 9 interviews about him. So he [Vince] got me a paint that wouldn't come off when I sweat. So I had myself half-black completely all the way down. So I'm in Toronto and I'm trying to dance like Michael Jackson and got backstage and tried to get the black off. After 5 minutes my cheek was bleeding. Andre the Giant and Arnie Skaaland had poured out the solution. So I left it on, went out and got super drunk. I woke up in the morning and my door was blown right off the whole hotel. I went to the airport and was wearing a cowboy hat, carrying a 4-foot mickey mouse doll for my daughter. When you go through the Chicago airport half-black, they let you go right through. I bought a first-class seat for Mickey, we got *hit-ass drunk the whole ride and it took me a full month to get it off.
