DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 30
Welcome to Week 30 of 2014. Next week will be the final week of July, after NXT, Impact, & Superstars, as Smackdown starts August. So, stay tuned for the July Month in Review. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we started off with Roman Reigns VS Kane & Randy Orton in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match. This was Reigns’ 1st open since Smackdown on June 13 & Kane & Orton’s 1st opening match of 2014. Kane went from the main event of Smackdown to the opener of the following week’s Raw, which was the 1st time since Dean Ambrose & Rybaxel did it on the main event of Smackdown on May 2 & the opener of Raw on May 5. Reigns & Orton went from the main event of last week’s Raw to the opener of this week, which was the 1st time since Sheamus on May 26 & June 2 to do that. Next, in our 2nd Handicap Match of the night, which was the 2nd week in a row that happened, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 128 overall & 67 for WWE, Nikki Bella wrestled Cameron, Rosa Mendes, Alicia Fox, & Eva Marie. Then, Bo Dallas wrestled Damien Sandow for the 1st time. Next, we had a re-match from Raw on January 27 when Dolph Ziggler wrestled The Miz, making this the 14th match to take place on Raw twice. Then, Paige & AJ Lee took on the 1st time team of Emma & Natalya, making this the 5th straight show to have 2 Diva’s Matches. This was Natalya’s 1st match on Raw since May 12 & Emma’s 1st match since May 26. Then, in his 1st match on Raw since June 9, Zack Ryder wrestled Fandango. This was Ryder’s 1st win of 2014, 1st win since November 27, 2013 when he also defeated Fandango on Superstars, & 1st win on Raw since being part of a winning team against The Shield in an 11-on-3 Handicap Match on September 23, 2013. Then, in a re-match from last week’s Main Event, Big E & Kofi Kingston wrestled Rybaxel. This was the 1st time since Dolph Ziggler VS Seth Rollins on June 10 & 16 that a match from Main Event was re-matched the following week on Raw. This was also Big E & Ryback’s 50th match of 2014. Then, in another 1st time match, The Great Khali wrestled Rusev. In the main event, Dean Ambrose wrestled Cesaro. This was Ambrose’s 2nd straight main event & Cesaro’s 1st main event since Raw on June 23. This was the 1st Raw since June 3 that John Cena didn’t compete in the main event or at all. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 6th week in a row that Raw had a Disqualification.
On Main Event, in both men’s 1st match on the show since June 24, Seth Rollins wrestled Fandango. Then, Jey Uso wrestled Ryback, in Ryback’s 2nd week in a row on the show & Jey’s 1st match on the show since June 17 & 1st singles match since Raw on June 23. Next, Big E & Kofi Kingston took on the team of Titus O’Neil & Heath Slater. This was the 2nd time that O’Neil & Slater teamed up, as they faced The Usos on Smackdown on July 11. This was E & Kingston’s 2nd week in a row on Main Event, O’Neil’s 1st match on the show since April 22, & Slater’s 1st match on Main Event since February 26. Then, in the 1st re-match from Battleground, Jack Swagger wrestled Rusev. This was the 2nd time that a match from a Pay-Per-View was re-matched the same week on Main Event, as Darren Young VS Titus O’Neil happened at Elimination Chamber on February 23 & on Main Event on February 26. This was Swagger’s 1st match on the show since June 24 & Rusev’s 1st match on the show since June 17. This was the 2nd straight show that had a Disqualification and 1st Disqualification for Main Event since June 3. This was the 1st time since June 24 that Cameron did not wrestle on the show & there was not a Diva’s Match on the show, the 4th week in a row someone wrestled 2 weeks in a row, & the 1st time since May 27 that Main Event had 4 matches.
On NXT, The Ascension, competing for the 1st time since June 19 & in the 1st opener since May 15, wrestled against the debuting Aaron Solow & Jonny Vandal, who wrestled on NXT on April 3. On that show, he also wrestled The Ascension, with Jack Hurley as his partner. Then, in both men’s 1st match on NXT since June 19, Mojo Rawley took on Tyler Breeze. Next, Charlotte defended her NXT Women’s Championship against Summer Rae. This was the 1st Women’s Title Match since Charlotte won the title at NXT Takeover on May 29 & 3rd overall in 2014, bringing the Title Match count to 101 overall & 59 for WWE. This was Charlotte’s 1st match on NXT since July 3 & Summer’s 1st match on the show since July 10. Then, the 1st time team of Sin Cara & Kalisto wrestled The Vaudevillains, in their 2nd consecutive week on the show. This was Kalisto’s 1st match on NXT since June 19, Cara’s 1st match on the show since July 10, & the 1st loss for The Vaudevillains. In the main event, Adrian Neville, competing in the main event for the 1st time since July 10, wrestled against Rusev, in his 1st match on NXT since March 13 & 1st main event on the show since January 15. Since he also competed on Raw & Main Event, Rusev became the 1st wrestler since Summer Rae on July 8 & 10 to wrestle on Main Event & NXT in the same week, & 1st since Rob Van Dam on June 23, 24, & 26 to compete on Raw, Main Event, & NXT in the same week. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 3rd Disqualification this week, 2nd straight Rusev match to end by Disqualification, & 1st Disqualification on NXT since March 27.
On Impact, we started with a Falls Count Anywhere Match between Bobby Roode and MVP. This was Roode’s 1st opening match since April 3, MVP’s 1st opener since May 29, and 1st Falls Count Anywhere Match since May 22. This was a re-match from February 27, making it the 9th match to take place on Impact twice. Then, DJ Z wrestled Low Ki, making his 2014 TNA debut. This was Ki’s 1st match in TNA since Destination X on July 10, 2011. Next, Mr. Anderson & Gunner wrestled Bram & Magnus. This was Anderson & Gunner’s 1st match as a team since May 29, which was also the last time that Gunner wrestled on Impact. Then, the Knockout’s Title was on the line for the 1st time since July 10 & 9th time in 2014, as Gail Kim wrestled Taryn Terrell, in her 1st match since June 26. The match ended in a No Contest, which was the 1st No Contest for TNA since June 5 & 1st time that Knockout’s Match had a No Contest.This brought the Title Match count to 102 overall & 43 for TNA. Then, The Great Muta, was in action for the 1st time since TNA Lockdown on March 9, against Robbie E, who was wrestling for the 1st time since Impact on June 12. Then, in the main event, Team 3D & Tommy Dreamer wrestled Ethan Carter III, Rockstar Spud, & Rhino in a New York City Fight. This was the 2nd week in arrow that TNA had No Disqualfication Match & 1st official Street Fight since July 3. This along with the Falls Count Anywhere Match brought the Gimmick Match count to 130 overall & 63 for TNA. This was Devon’s 1st match since Impact on August 22, 2013 & Spud’s 1st match since TNA Sacrifice on April 27. Bully Ray, Tommy Dreamer, Ethan Carter III, & Rhino all went from the opener of last week’s Impact to the main event of this week’s, which was the 1st time since Bram & Magnus on July 3 & 10 to do that. This was Ray & Carter’s 1st main e vent since June 5, Spud’s 1st main event sine March 13, & Dreamer, Devon, & Rhino’s 1st main event of 2014. This was TNA’ s 1st 6-Man Team Match since May 29.
On Superstars, Adam Rose wrestled Heath Slater for the 3rd time. They wrestled on Superstars on June 12 & 26, making it the 2nd match to take place 3 time on Superstars. This was Rose’s 1st match on the show since July 11 & Slater’s 1st match on the show since June 26. Slater also wrestled on Main Event, making it the 2nd week in a row that someone competed on both shows. Then, in another 3rd re-match, R-Truth wrestled Alberto Del Rio. They wrestled on Main Event on January 29 & on Superstars on July 3, which was also the last time that Del Rio competed on the show. This was the Truth’s 2nd week in a row on Superstars, which was the 1st time since Titus O’Neil on July 3 & 10 to wrestle in 2 conscutive weeks on Superstars. This was the 1st match to take place on Main Event once & then Superstars twice.
On Smackdown, for the 7th time, The Usos wrestled Rybaxel, making it the 4th match to take place 7 times. They last competed on Smackdown on June 5. This was The Usos’ 1st opening match since Raw on July 7 & Rybaxel’s 1st opening match since Raw on May 5. Then, for the 1st time, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Bo Dallas. Next, in a re-match from this week’s Raw, Dean Ambrose wrestled Cesaro, but this time in a No Disqualification Match. This was the 1st time since Natalya VS Nikki Bella on May 12 & 16 that a match from Raw was re-matched the same week on Smackdown. This was the 1st No Disqualification Match since Payback on June 1, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 131 overall & 68 for WWE. Then, Paige wrestled Naomi for the 3rd time. They wrestled on Raw on June 17 & at Money In The Bank on June 29, making it the 1st match to take place on Raw, Pay-Per-View, & Smackdown 3 times. This was the 1st show to have only 1 Diva’s Match on it since Raw on July 7. Then, R-Truth wrestled Bray Wyatt, in a re-match from Raw on March 31, making it the 12th match to take place on Raw & Smackdown. This was Wyatt’s 1st match on Smackdown since June 27. In the main event, Roman Reigns wrestled Alberto Del Rio. This was Reigns’ 1st main event since Raw on July 14 & Del Rio’s 1st main event since Raw on June 23. Reigns went from the opener of this week’s Raw to the main event of this week’s Smackdown, which was the 1st time since Rybaxel on Raw on April 28 & Smackdown on May 2 to do that. This was Del Rio’s 50th match of 2014, making him the 9th wrestler to compete in 50 matches or more. This was the 1st time since June 20 that there was no Disqualification on a Raw or Smackdown.
