WHY FLAIR'S BELT WAS CENSORED, SEPARATE ENTRANCES IN WCW, REAL NAMES ON TOTAL DIVAS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2014-05-01 10:00:00
I was watching an MSG show from December '91 on the WWE Network, which featured a match between Flair & Hogan. Vince was on commentary and mentioned that Jack Tunney vowed to censor Flair's "real world's championship" on camera. However, when Flair removed his robe you could clearly see at one point that he was holding a WWF tag team title belt. Why wouldn't he have been wearing the NWA belt as he had previously done on their TV?

The NWA had legitimately sued over the use of the belt and for the return of the championship belt and the court ruled in their favor, leading to the Tag belt being used and the belt being “censored” going forward.

I've been watching WCW shows on the WWE Network and I have a question about the setup for some of their events. When the company didn't use the big stage and runway that connected to the very edge of the ring, it would sometimes have two entrances at the corners of the ring. For example, watch Halloween Havoc '92 or SuperBrawl 3; when the cameras pull back to a wide shot of the crowd you can clearly see two separate entrance areas, each with its own aisle. Why did the company do that?

During that time period, Bill Watts was in charge of the company and was trying to reinforce the basics of what pro wrestling as a sports presentation was. One of the things that he required was the idea that the babyfaces and heels stayed in separate locker rooms since they wouldn’t “get along” if you were presenting it as a realistic sport. Once Eric Bischoff replaced Watts, that was relaxed.

Love the site! I need to have a bet settled. My brother and I were watching Wrestelmania I - the main event specifically. Hulk Hogan and Mr T walkout to to Real American. My brother and I are too young to remember, but the audio seems a little off and we're pretty sure that they aren't walking out to Real American. My brother thinks that Hulk's Theme from The Wrestling Album by Jim Steinman is playing, but I remember reading that Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" was Hulk's theme music at one point. Can you tell me what song they actually walked out to at Wrestlemania one, I've got a pizza on the line.

It was actually “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor from Rocky III.

With Jeff Jarrett forming GFW, do you think it's a bad idea for him to go after talent that is/has been recently released from TNA? Especially, the top home grown talent? I mean, as much as I love seeing an A.J Styles, Daniels, or Kazarian perform and, as much as they deserve to be on television in prominent roles.. Don't you run the risk of, basically starting your company and giving people the impression that it's TNA 2.0, if you sign those guys off the bat and put them as top talents in your company? By the sound of what Jeff is doing, it seems like he wants to disassociate his brand from TNA and, first impressions are, lasting impressions.. With that said also, what do you think of the name and logo? I think I like the colors as it's not the normal Red/Black, Blue/Black scheme but, I do think the name is a little on the weak side.. The logo reminds me of WCW Saturday Night..

I think that Jarrett should pick and choose who he brings in as you don’t want to give off the appearance of just being TNA with different letters. You want to come off as a fresh, new product with a unique presentation. I like the logo and name myself.

I was channel surfing recently and I came upon the show Total Divas. The scene featured The Bellas and Daniel Bryan. During one conversation between the three one of the Bellas I believe it was Brie referred to Daniel Bryan as Bryan. Was that a mistake? The man we know in WWE circles as Daniel Bryan is in reality Bryan Danielson. Have the Bellas ever been told to address him as Daniel and not Bryan during filming?

Total Divas, since it’s a reality show, has made it clear that they are following the “real performers” who portray their characters on WWE TV. So, Daniel Bryan is Bryan Danielson, etc.
