DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 16

Welcome to Week 16 of 2014. Next week, TNA will give us their 2nd Pay-Per-View of 2014, with TNA Sacrifice. So, stay tuned for that. Now, to this week’s news & notes.

On Raw, we started off with the 1st Round of the WWE Intercontinental Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament, which gave us 4 matches throughout the night. The first match was Rob Van Dam VS Alberto Del Rio, in RVD’s 1st opener of 2014 and Del Rio’s 1st opener since Raw on March 31. Next, in a re-match from Raw on January 13 & Elimination Chamber on February 23, The Brotherhood wrestled Curtis Axel & Ryback. Then, new WWE Diva’s Champion Paige competed in her 1st Non-Title Match against Alicia Fox, in her 1st singles match of 2014. Then, in a re-match from last week, The Usos wrestled Batista & Randy Orton. This was the 1st time since Naomi VS AJ Lee on March 24 & 31 that a match took place 2 weeks in a row on Raw. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 1st Disqualification for WWE since Smackdown on April 11. Then, we had 1st time match of Mark Henry VS Cesaro. Next, Xavier Woods wrestled Alexander Rusev for the 4th time, as they wrestled on NXT on January 8, January 22, & March 13. In another 1st time match, Sheamus wrestled Jack Swagger. Then we were supposed to get The Big Show VS Damien Sandow, but Show knocked Sandow out before the match began. Therefore, it doesn’t count in the standings. Then, for the 2nd week in a row, we had a Mixed Tag Team Match, as Emma & Santino Marella wrestled the new duo of Fandango & Layla. This brought the Gimmick Match count to 57 overall and 25 for WWE. This was Layla’s 1st match on Raw in 2014 and the 2nd week in a row Raw had 2 Diva’s Matches. Then, in another 1st time match, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Bad News Barrett, in the 450th Match of 2014. In the main event, we had the 1st ever 11-on-3 Handicap Match, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 58 overall and 26 for WWE. This was the 1st Handicap Match for WWE since Raw on February 17. This was the 1st main event except The Shield and Jack Swagger. Roman Reigns was in the main event of Raw on February 24, Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins were in the main event of Raw on March 24, & Swagger was in the main event of Smackdown on April 4. Since several of the participants competed earlier in the night, this was the 1st time since Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania XXX on April 6 that someone wrestled multiple times and Alberto Del Rio was the 1st person since Bryan to compete in the opening and closing matches of the same show. This was Jinder Mahal & Drew McIntyre’s 1st match on Raw since February 17 and Heath Slater’s 1st match on Raw since January 6. The match ended in a No Contest, which was the 3rd week in a row that Raw had a No Contest and the 1st time since Smackdown on April 4 that there was a Disqualification and No Contest on the same show.

On Main Event, we started with a re-match from Superstars on January 30, as Los Matadores wrestled 3MB. This was Matadores’ 1st match on Main Event since March 11 and 3MB’s 1st match on the show since February 26. The match ended in a No Contest, which was the 2nd night in a row that WWE had a No Contest. Next, in his 2nd straight week on the show, Sin Cara wrestled Bad News Barrett, in his 2014 Main Event debut. Then, we had 10 Diva Battle Royal, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 59 overall and 27 for WWE. It was the 1st Battle Royal since WrestleMania XXX. This was all of the divas 1st match on Main Event since March 25, except for Nikki Bella & Tamina Snuka, who wrestled each other on April 1. This was Main Event’s 50th Match of 2014. Then, in the final match of Main Event, The Big Show wrestled Jack Swagger. This was Show’s 1st match on Main Event since March 18 and Swagger’s 2nd week in a row on Main Event. This was a re-match from Raw on January 13.

On NXT, we started the show with the 1st opener of both Colin Cassady & Aiden English, as they wrestled other for the 3rd time. They wrestled on NXT on January 8 & February 12. This was Cassady’s 1st match on NXT since March 13 and English’s 1st match since March 20. March 20 was also the last time we saw Camacho in action before his match here against the returning Oliver Grey. Grey hasn’t competed on NXT since February 13, 2013. This was Camacho’s 1st win since November 27, 2013. Next, The Ascension in their 1st match since April 3 wrestled the 1st time team of Wesley Blake & Cal Bishop, who both competed in separate matches on March 13. Next, in his NXT debut, The Great Khali wrestled CJ Parker, in his 1st match since March 27. Next, we saw the debuts of 2 new teams, as Tye Dillinger & Jason Jordan wrestled Baron Corbin & Sawyer Fulton. This was Jordan & Dillinger’s 1st match since separate matches on February 12, Corbin’s 1st match since January 8, and Fulton’s 1st match since May 29, 2013. The match ended in a Count Out, which was the 1st Count Out for WWE since Smackdown on April 11 and 1st for NXT since March 6. This was the 1st NXT since January 15 to not have a Diva’s Match.

On Impact, we started the night with Madison Rayne & Velvet Sky in a Street Fight. Next, for the 2nd week in a row, The Wolves defeated The Bro-Mans by Disqualification in a TNA Tag Team Championship Match, bringing the Title Match count to 42 overall and 16 for TNA. This isn’t a re-match, since Edwards & Richards wrestled Jessie Godderz & DJ Z, subbing for Robbie E last week. Next, in the 1st Handicap Match for TNA since February 20, which brought the Gimmick Match count to 61 overall and 33 for TNA, Willow wrestled the 1st time team of Ethan Carter III & Rockstar Spud. Next, in a re-match from April 3, Sanada wrestled Tigre Uno in Match 2 of their Best of 3 Series. This was Big E’s 1st opener since Raw on March 7 and Del Rio’s 2nd opener this week after Raw. Del Rio also competed in the main event of Raw, so he became the 1st person since The Shield on March 24 & 28 to do that. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 2nd Disqualification this week after Raw. Then, in her Smackdown debut, Paige wrestled Aksana, in her 1st match on Smackdown since January 3 and her 1st singles match since Main Event on February 26. Next, El Torito wrestled Hornswoggle.
