DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 15
Welcome to Week 15 of 2014. What a week last week was, but it’s time to get back to normal. But before that, some housekeeping. After re-watching WrestleMania XXX on the WWE Network, I realized there were actually 31 participants in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. I missed David Otunga, but I think most of the WWE Universe forgot about him. So, he’s now listed on the standings. Also, this column is dedicated to the memory of the Ultimate Warrior. After an awesome weekend seeing him get his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame, as well as getting a chance to talk to the fans on Raw, he passed away on Tuesday. I grew up watching him and was a little Warrior when he won the WWF Championship at WrestleMania 6. His match against Randy Savage at WrestleMania 7 is one of my favorite matches of all-time. So, Rest In Peace Warrior. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we started the show with a 6-Man Tag Team Match with John Cena, Big E, & Sheamus against The Wyatt Family. This was Big E’s 2nd week in a row opening Raw, Sheamus’ 1st opener since Raw on March 24, Cena & Rowan’s 1st opener since Raw on March 10, & Harper & Wyatt’s 1st opener since Raw on February 10. This was the 2nd night in a row that WWE had a 6-Man Tag Team Match. Then in the 1st Mixed Tag Team Match since the last time they wrestled on Raw on March 3, Emma & Santino Marella wrestled Fandango & Summer Rae. This brought the Gimmick Match count to 54 overall and 24 for WWE. Then, The Usos defended the WWE Tag Team Titles for the 2nd night in a row, against the team of Batista & Randy Orton, bringing the Title Match count 37 overall and 24 for WWE. The match ended in a Double Count Out, which was the 3rd Raw in a row to have a No Contest and the 1st Count Out for Raw since March 24. Next, Damien Sandow wrestled the returning Rob Van Dam, who last wrestled on Raw on September 23, 2013 and last competed for WWE since WWE Battleground on October 6, 2013. Then, in his 1st match on Raw since February 10, Rey Mysterio wrestled Wade Barrett, in his 1st match since Smackdown on August 23, 2013. Wade is now going by the name of Bad News Barrett. Then Alexander Rusev made his Raw debut, but he last competed on NXT on March 13, against Zack Ryder, who last wrestled on Raw on February 3. In another debut from NXT, Paige, who last competed on NXT on March 13, wrestled AJ Lee for the Diva’s Title, bringing the Title Match count to 38 overall and 25 for WWE. This was the 2nd night in a row that the Diva’s Title was defended. Paige won the title, bringing the Title Change count to 8 overall and 5 for WWE, ending AJ’s reign at 295 days, when she won the title at WWE Payback on June 16, 2013. By her winning the title, Paige became the 1st wrestler to be NXT Women’s & WWE Diva’s Champion at the same time. This was also the 2nd week in a row that Raw had 2 Diva’s Matches. Next, in a 1st time match, Cesaro wrestled Jack Swagger. The match ended in Count Out, which was the 2nd Count Out of the night, which was the 1st time that has happened in 2014. In the main event, Daniel Bryan defended his newly won WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Triple H, in a re-match from WrestleMania. This was the 9th Raw following a Pay-Per-View that a match from that Pay-Per-View also took place the next night on Raw. This was Triple H’s 1st match on Raw since June 10, 2013. It brought the Title Match count to 39 overall and 26 for WWE. This was Bryan’s 1st main event since March 10 & Triple H’s 1st main event of 2014. For the 2nd time on Raw, the match ended in a No Contest, which was the 1st time in 2014 that Raw had 2 No Contests on the same show.
On Main Event, we saw The Shield VS The Wyatt Family in their 3rd Re-Match, as they wrestled at Elimination Chamber on February 23 & on Raw on March 3. This became the 1st match to be re-matched in February, March, & April. This was Ambrose’s 1st match on Main Event since March 11, Reigns & Rollins’ 1st match on the show since February 19, & The Wyatts’ 1st match on the show since February 12. This was the 2nd 6-Man Tag Team Match this week. Next, we saw Dolph Ziggler, in his 1st match on Main Event since March 25 wrestled Jack Swagger, in his 1st match on Main Event since March 18. In the final match of Main Event, Sin Cara, in his 1st match on Main Event since February 26, wrestled Alexander Rusev in his Main Event debut. The show went back to 3 matches, after having only 2 matches last week.
On NXT, in the 1st opener for both, Adam Rose, in his 1st match on NXT since March 20, wrestled Danny Burch, in his 1st match on NXT since January 29. Next, in their 3rd match against each other, Bayley wrestled Sasha Banks. They wrestled on NXT on January 29 & March 20, which was the last time Bayley wrestled on NXT. This was Sasha’s 2nd week in a row on NXT. Then, Mojo Rawley, in his 1st match on NXT since March 27, wrestled Sylvester Lefort, in his 1st match since February 5. In the main event of NXT, Justin Gabriel, in his 2014 NXT debut, wrestled Bo Dallas, in Dallas’ 1st match and main event since March 27.
On Impact, we started the show with a 10-Man Gauntlet Match, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 55 overall and 31 for TNA. This was Sanada’s 1st opener of 2014, James Storm’s 1st opener since January 23, Eric Young’s 1st opener since February 6, Gunner’s 1st opener since February 13, Lashley’s 1st opener since March 20, Abyss’ 1st opener since March 27, & Bully Ray, Willow, Ethan Carter III, & Bobby Roode’s 2nd week in a row in the opener. Abyss & Eric Young went from the main event of last week’s Impact to the opener of this week’s, which was the 1st time since Magnus on March 20 & 27 to do that. Next, in another Gimmick Match of the night, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 56 overall and 32 for TNA, Brittany, ODB, Gail Kim, & Angelina Love competed in a 4-Way Match, which was the 2nd week in a row Impact had a 4-Way Match. This was ODB’s 1st match since March 6 & Brittany’s 1st match since March 13. Then, we had The Wolves against The Bro-Mans for the TNA World Tag Team Titles, but instead of Robbie E, we had a substitute in Zema Ion, who’s now being called DJ Z, which is what he’ll be called from now on. This match was still counted as Title Match, so the Title Match count is now 40 overall and 14 for TNA. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 1st Disqualification for TNA since March 20 and this was Z’s 1st match since Impact on February 20. In the main event and 2nd title match of the night, bringing the Title Match count to 41 overall and 15 for TNA, Eric Young, competing for the 2nd time tonight, wrestled Magnus. This was both men’s 2nd week in a row in the main event. Young winning the World Title brought the Title Change count to 9 overall and 4 for TNA and the 1st World Title change since Impact on January 9, when Magnus defeated AJ Styles to become the Undisputed TNA World Champion. Young was the 1st wrestler since Gunner & James Storm on February 13 to compete twice on Impact.
On Superstars, in his 1st match on the show since March 13, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Ryback, in his 1st match on Superstars since March 6 and 1st singles match since Smackdown on February 7. This was a re-match from Superstars on January 9. Since Ziggler also competed on Main Event, this was the 1st time since Emma & Summer Rae on March 25 & 27 that someone wrestled on both shows. In his 2nd week in a row on Superstars, Kofi Kingston wrestled Titus O’Neil, in his 1st match on Superstars since March 6. That date was also the last time that Titus won. This week, Superstars went back to 2 matches, after having only 1 match last week.
On Smackdown, for the 1st time in 2014, The Big Show wrestled Cesaro. This was Show’s 1st opener of 2014 & Cesaro’s 1st opener since Raw on March 17. Even though last week’s show only had 2 matches, Cesaro was still part of the final match of the show, therefore went from the last match last week to the opener this week, which was the 1st time since Christian on February 7 & 14 to do that. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 1st Disqualification since Raw on March 31. Next, Los Matadores wrestled Curtis Axel & Ryback in their 5th match against each other. They last wrestled on Raw on March 24, after also wrestling on Smackdown on January 24, Superstars on March 6, & Main Event on March 11, becoming the 1st match to take place 5 times in 2014. This was Axel & Ryback’s 1st win since January 31. Next, in his 1st match on Smackdown since October 4, 2013, Rob Van Dam wrestled Damien Sandow in a re-match from Raw. This was the 1st time since Sandow wrestled Sin Cara on March 24 & 28 that a match took place on both Raw & Smackdown in the same week. Next, in his 1st match on Smackdown, since August 23, Bad News Barrett wrestled Kofi Kingston. Next, Santino Marella wrestled Fandango, in their 3rd match against each other. They wrestled each other on Raw on February 10 & 17. This was Fandango’s 1st win since Smackdown on March 28. In the main event, Daniel Bryan & The Usos wrestled Batista, Kane, & Randy Orton. This was Bryan’s 2nd main event this week, Batista & Orton’s 1st main event since Raw on March 31, Kane’s 1st main event since March 14, & The Usos’ 1st main event since February 28. This was the 3rd 6-Man Tag Team Match this week and the 2nd match this week to have a Double Count Out and 3rd to end in a No Contest. This was the 2nd Smackdown in a row to not have a Diva’s Match.
