AN ALL TAG TEAM WWE HALL OF FAME, 80s WWF STARS NOT HAVING THEME MUSIC, THE ONE MAN I'D PUT INTO THE WWE HALL RIGHT AWAY AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2014-04-03 10:00:00
Do you think we will ever see a WWE hall of fame where it is mainly or all tag teams? I mean there are so many teams that desirve it and it would be a great concept. Freebirds, Steiner bros, Rock and roll express, hart foundation, midnight express, etc would be a great hall of fame. I also think old school fans would appreciate it as well

I think most of the teams that you named will eventually be in the WWE Hall of Fame, but I don't see WWE ever doing an exclusive year of only Tag Teams. The HOF is much an event as it is a marketing idea and I don't think the company would ever want to limit themselves to one genre of pro wrestling. For that reason, I don't think we'll ever see a WCW year, a ECW year, etc. either. WWE wants to reach the greatest concentration of fans possible, so it makes sense to have a little from each era to appeal to everyone.

If there was one person living who should go in the WWE Hall of Fame right now that hasn't, who should it be?

There are a lot of talents, alive and some who have passed away, who deserve to go in. I'll pick one name that I think really should go in soon because he's getting older and because he had a long career and had the WWWF title and that's Ivan Koloff. I think he should get to have his moment in the run because he had a good 3-4 decade career and that deserves to be honored - he was a great talent.

After the first couple of Wrestle Manias, I would have thought that the top wrestlers would have had their own entrance music. However, during one of the Summer Slams (The Brain Busters v. the Hart Foundation), the Brain Busters did not have music. And if I recall, Bad News Brown never had music in the WWE. Was there a reason for this? Wrestlers' preference? Vince's preference? Jim Johnston or Jimmy Hart not being able to come up with something to fit their personas?

I think it was just part of their presentation at the time. Look at who you are bringing up. The ultr-serious, militant Bad News Brown character wouldn't have been one to come out to music. The Brainbusters were throwback working wrestlers, so they didn't need the music. I also think that at times, villains not having music allowed the audience a chance to truly get into them and boo them as opposed to just reacting to the theme music. Imagine if a pissed off, sneering Batista just walked out on Raw. The crowd would be focused on his body language and facial reactions and things he said and did and might act a little more emotionally charged to him, as opposed to the music being one of the focal points that sets the mood.

Have you ever considered putting together a PWInsider Online Hall of Fame? One in which the fans of your site would vote each month on who should go in?

It's never been discussed. I don't think it's something that should be done, either. I think the Hall of Fame in Amsterdam, NY has it right in that there's a nominating committee and then the nominees are voted upon by a rotating group of people who have worked in and around the pro wrestling world. To me, they nail it and are the "true" HOF.

When WWF performers had animals back in the day, who's responsibility was it to transport them?

At the time, the wrestlers were responsible for the animals. In some cases, such as Koko B. Ware, Frankie the bird was actually his and something he brought to the company. In others, such as Mathilda the Bulldog, that was something the company gave to the British Bulldogs.
