WHY THE WWE NETWORK'S VOD ISN'T WORKING AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2014-02-25 09:15:44
Obviously, the big news of the day is that WWE Network launched yesterday with its free trial and well, as one might suspect, there were some issues.

The VOD feature worked sporadically, at best, for anyone not using a mobile device. If you were using a Roku, a Playstation, etc., you were likely frustrated at some point in the day. We are told that MLBAM was completely overwhelmed by the usage of the VOD area and that logjammed requests users were making and causing failures. I was told by one person that since the service was free, that allowed far more users than expected to begin sampling the product and the stress of all those users (at least some of whom won't be remaining as paying customer) didn't help either.

We've also heard from angry readers who signed up for the free trial and claimed their credit cards were immediately charged $9.99. If that happened to you, I suggest calling the Network's customer service immediately.

I am assuming over the next few days WWE and MLBAM figure the bugs out. There really is no way to beta test for insane levels of traffic and honestly, there had to be some issues expected along the way. Even Disneyland's opening was a complete trainwreck. When you break new ground, things aren't always going to work properly. As long as WWE's customer service tries to make good with the audience, all will be well in the end.

The New York Post covered the launch and its issues yesterday at this link.

Michael King sent the following....For some reason the tag team title four-way elimination was removed from ECW November 2 Remember 1997. Instead of showing the match, it jumped right to the flag match between Tommy Dreamer and Rob Van Dam.
