DRAGON GATE USA IN QUEENS, NY iPPV TAPING LIVE REPORT

By Mike Carroll on 2014-02-23 09:09:49
DGUSA ran Saturday 2/22 at the Queensboro Elks Lodge in Queens, NY. Here are the results:

*Tim Donst defeated Chris Dickenson with a twisting neckbreaker. Good debut for both guys. After Larry Dallas tried to recruit both guys but was blown off

Ivelisse defeated Su Yung with the code red. Decent match as they messed a few things up but worked hard.

*Caleb Konley defeated Yosuke Santa Maria (think that was his name) with a version of a boston crab. Yosuke is from Japan and does an over the top gay gimmick, kind of like Maximo for you Lucha fans. Konley nearly killed himself on a dive when his feet caught the ropes. Lots of comedy spots in this one.

*Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy defeated DGUSA Tag champions The Bravado Brothers by DQ when Moose interfered. The story was that the Bravados got the Dragon Gate rules (scramble) for their titles thrown out and forced it to be a traditional tag match. Cassidy has a great gimmick and was absolutely hilarious being drunk.

*Rich Swann defeated Tony Nese with a twisty spinny senton for the pin. Swann took a killer bump when he was given a flying falcon arrow on the apron. I thought he was dead, but he beat the 20 count and the match continued.

*Mr A defeated Shane Strickland and Fire Ant in an elimination match. A was entered into the match by Tony Nese, who he's the muscle for. Strickland pinned Ant. He hit the swerve stomp on A but Nese distracted the ref. A came back with the black hole slam and a splash for the pin.

*EVOLVE champ AR Fox defeated Drew Gulak with lo mein pain to retain the EVOLVE title. Originally wasn't a title match, but AR cut a promo saying it would be a title match. Excellent match, probably the best on the show. Gulak is really great and I'm glad to see him in DGUSA.

*Johnny Gargano defeated Trent Baretta via submission to retain DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate title. Trent hit a piledriver off the top but Gargano was saved by the ropes. Shortly after was finish. Very good main event.

Notes: Overall, I thought it was a very good show and worth the money. The last two matches put the show over the top in my opinion. The crowd was about 250. Interesting to note the interplay between the crowd and the wrestlers was strong. One fan in the front row had me in stitches when he went crazy giving AR Fox crap, and Fox reacted brilliantly. There was also a pre-show featuring a surprise appearance by Justin Credible and another guy in a tag match vs the Axis Powers, who do a communist Canadian gimmick (seriously). Credible won with the superkick. Another match featured Earl Cooter beated The Caveman with a spinning Unprettier. Caveman might be one of the most off the wall indy gimmicks I've ever seen, and that says a lot.
