ADDITIONAL WWE NETWORK & FUTURE OF PPV NOTES

By Mike Johnson on 2014-01-09 01:46:29
For those of you who have asked about PPVs being available still via traditional means (cable and satellite), we are told that as of now, they will still be available through InDemand, etc. So, if you don't want to purchase the WWE Network, you won't be locked out of say, Summerslam, if you want to order that show.

Currently The WWE Network is listing a $10 per month price point "with six month purchase." As of now, that will be the only option, although WWE can change that as they evolve the Network. The six month commitment is actually a really smart move as it would require viewers to renew right around Summerslam and Wrestlemania. WWE will bill $9.99 per month but if you opt out before the end of the six month commitment, they will charge you the remaining balance.

One of the discussions among wrestlers privately is how PPV bonuses will change with the Network launching, if at all. Obviously, there's no word on that yet.

For those who have asked, there will be some "promotional" advertising on the Network as well as sponsorships for specific events, etc.

A few readers have asked about older territory programming. Nothing was announced but the logos for the territories were shown during the presentation, so it makes sense that it will be used in some fashion. As of now, it probably depends on what percentage of their library has been digitized.

Replays of WWE Main Event will be on the Network.

The plan is for original programming to be available via VOD after the initial "airings."

Interesting to note there was no mention of the original programming that was on Classics on Demand, but that's something WWE can roll out down the line. They aren't going to give everything away with the launch - that would be bad business.

Original programming featured on the Network will be also be available via VOD after initial airings.

We have heard from a number of readers who aren't familiar with streaming services such as Roku, etc. If anyone has any questions about how the content will be rolled out, etc., feel free to email me by clicking my name above and we'll see about putting together a FAQ to help bring you up to speed.

Among those in attendance at the Presentation were Linda McMahon, Mark Henry, Naomi, Cameron, The Bellas, Alberto Del Rio and Big Show.
