BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING BACK AT THE WEEK IN WRESTLING ON TELEVISION FROM WWE AND TNA

By Richard Trionfo on 2013-12-29 11:24:27
The final full week of 2013 is done and we move on from the monumental 200th edition of this column to a rather ho hum 201st. Since we have one more episode of Raw before the end of 2013, the year end and December break downs will be in next week’s column.

Raw won the week again with its second consecutive (and third in four weeks) effort with an hour or more of wrestling. Raw was supported by two matches that covered almost half of the wrestling on the show. Smackdown finished second in its final show of the year with its best total of the year (and fourth week over 40 minutes in 2013) with 46 minutes of wrestling. Main Event had its best week ever with 34 minutes (beating its prior high of 30 minutes on November 6th).

Impact finished in fourth with 28 minutes of wrestling to end its year. With only one match on the show, NXT fell to fifth but still had more wrestling than Superstars.

If the wrestling on the WWE App was included, we probably would have broken the 200 minute barrier for the week, but we ended up with 198 minutes of wrestling from the ten hours of wrestling programming.

With the high amount of wrestling on this week’s television plate, it is not surprising that we would have eight matches longer than ten minutes. Main Event had two 14 minute matches, but neither of them were able to crack the top three matches for the week because of the Antonio Cesaro versus William Regal match from NXT, the Wyatt Family versus Goldust, Daniel Bryan, and Cody Rhodes match on Raw, and the John Cena versus Seth Rollins match from Smackdown.

We did have one one minute match this week on Smackdown.

While I don’t normally talk about the monthly or annual totals in the weekly columns, I did want to point out that the final match on Smackdown was the 1,500th match of the year in my column from Raw, Smackdown, Impact, Ring of Honor, Superstars, Main Event, and NXT.

Thanks to another strong hourly average for Raw, they have finally passed Impact to get out of last place in the amount of wrestling per hour. The next challenge for Raw is to pass Smackdown to get out of last place in the average match length. Raw has had longer average matches than Smackdown for the last seven weeks.

Raw passed 6,600 minutes while Smackdown passed 5,700 minutes and Impact passed 5,400 minutes. Next week, Main Event will break 1,400 minutes if there is any wrestling on the show. The next match from Impact will be the 1,000th.

As a note for the Ring of Honor totals, the matches that are going to be taped in Nashville will be the next time that a match will be considered for this column since it was specified as a television taping.

The wrestling times below cover the wrestling that takes place during the show so commercials are not included. All times are rounded to the closest minute (examples: a 4:23 match will be listed as 4 minutes while a 4:32 match will be listed as 5 minutes and anything under a minute is rounded up to a minute).
