DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 52

Welcome to Week 52 of 2013. This is the final full week of 2013. This week we got the annual Tribute to The Troops Special from WWE, so that is included in this week’s standings. Next week will be very unique, as Raw will be on December 30, 2013, while the rest of the week’s shows will start with NXT on January 1, 2014. So, like last year which happened the same way, I will only count Raw for 2013 and the rest of the week will begin Week 1 of 2014. So, stay tuned for the full 2013 Year In Review next week. Now, to this week’s news & notes.

On Raw, for the 1st time in 2013, the Divas competed in the opening match, as we saw a 12-Diva Jingle Belles Match. This was the 1st 12 Diva Tag of 2013 and 1st 12-Person Tag Match since Smackdown on November 29. This was The Funkadactyls & Eva Marie’s 1st match since Raw on November 25 & Vickie Guerrero’s 1st match since Raw on November 18. Next, for the 5th time in 2013, Sin Cara wrestled Curtis Axel. They last wrestled each other back on August 7 on Main Event. Then, we saw a 6-Man Tag Team Match, for the 2nd week in a row, as Daniel Bryan teamed up with The Rhodes Family to face The Wyatt Family. This was Bray Wyatt’s 1st match since Smackdown on November 29. Then we had a Christmas Caroling Contest, which doesn’t count in the standings. Next, in their 3rd match in 2 weeks and 2nd Raw in a row, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Fandango in the 1st Pole Match of 2013, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 223 overall and 130 for WWE. In their 7th match against each other in 2013, but their 1st since July, The Usos wrestled The Prime Time Players. The Prime Time Players has yet to defeat The Usos. This match was Jey’s 75th Match of 2013. Next, in the Battle For Christmas, which is the same as a No Disqualification Match, Mark Henry wrestled Damien Sandow, in a re-match from Smackdown on December 13. This brought the Gimmick Match count to 224 overall and 131 for WWE. This was the 1st No Disqualification Match since TLC on December 16. Then, we saw a re-match from Hell In A Cell on October 27, as Los Matadores wrestled The Real Americans, in Los Matadores’ 1st match on Raw since November 11. Next, Kofi Kingston wrestled Ryback, in a re-match from Main Event on October 30, though they didn’t wrestle each other in November. This was Ryback’s 1st singles match since Raw on November 18. Next, in the 2nd 6-Man Tag Team Match of the night, which was the 2nd week in a row Raw had 2 6-Man Tags, John Cena, Big E. Langston, & CM Punk wrestled The Shield. This was the 1st time in 2013 that the Intercontinental & United States Champions were on opposite teams of a 6-Man Tag Team Match. This was the 1st time since then-US Champ Kofi Kingston wrestled then-Intercontinental Champ Wade Barrett on Smackdown in April 19, that both champions wrestled each other. This was Big E. Langston’s 1st main event of 2013 and Cena, Punk, & Shield’s 2nd straight main event after last week’s Smackdown. The match ended in a Disqualification, which was the 2nd week in a row that Raw had a Disqualification. I tweeted referee John Cone to ask him why The Shield was Disqualified for breaking up a pin, when John Cena broke a pin up earlier. He told me that each team is allowed one save per match, so Cena used the save on Langston, and The Shield used a save earlier in the match, but when they triple-teamed Langston, Cone had no choice but to Disqualify them and award the match to Cena, Langston, & Punk.

On Main Event, which aired on WWE.com, instead of ION, in his 1st singles match since his last appearance on Main Event on December 4, Goldust wrestled Jack Swagger. This was Swagger’s 1st match on Main Event since October 23. Next, we saw The Bella Twins & Natalya wrestle Aksana, AJ Lee, & Tamina Snuka. This was the 1st time these 2 teams wrestled each other. The Bellas & Natalya have teamed up against AJ & Tamina twice before, but their 3rd partners were Alicia Fox and Summer Rae. Also, Aksana, AJ, & Tamina faced The Bellas before, but their partner was Eva Marie. This was AJ’s 2nd week in a row on Main Event, Natalya’s 1st Main Event match since December 11, Tamina’s 1st match on Main Event since November 20, Aksana’s 1st match on Main Event since October 23, and The Bellas’ 1st Main Event match since March 27. This was the 3rd week in a row that Main Event had a Diva’s Match and 2nd straight show this week to have a 6-Person Tag Match. In the final match of the night, Kofi Kingston wrestled Fandango. This was both men’s 1st match on the show since they faced each other on November 27. But they have wrestled each other a total of 10 times, tying them with Dolph Ziggler VS Alberto Del Rio as the most re-matched match in WWE. They last wrestled on Smackdown on December 20.

On a special edition of NXT, we saw a look back at 2013, followed by only match, which was the 1st time that NXT only had 1 match. The match we saw was William Regal VS Antonio Cesaro. This was Cesaro’s 2nd week in a row on NXT and Regal’s 1st match anywhere since NXT on July 10. That date was also the last time Regal was the main event of NXT and this was CEsaro’s 1st main event on NXT since August 21. This was also a re-match from Raw on June 17. This was the 8th week in a row that someone from the main roster wrestled on NXT.

On Impact, we started the show with a Double Count Out between James Storm and Gunner. This was the 1st Count Out for Impact since August 8 and the 1st No Contest on Impact since November 7. This was Gunner & Storm’s 1st opening match since October 31. Next, in a Monster’s Ball Handicap Match, Joseph Park wrestled Bad Influence. This was the 1st Monster’s Ball Match on Impact in 2013 and 1st one since TNA One Night Only: Hardcore Justice 2 on July 5. This along with the other Handicap Match later were the 1st Handicap Matches since Impact on November 14 and they brought the Gimmick Match count to 226 overall and 95 for TNA. Next, we saw ODB wrestle Lei’d Tapa in Tapa’s 1st singles match since Impact on November 28 and ODB’s 1st singles match since October 31. In the main event, Jeff Hardy & Sting teamed up for the 1st time against The Bro-Mans, Ethan Carter III, & Rockstar Spud. This was Hardy’s 2nd main event in a row, Carter’s 1st main event since December 12, Sting’s 1st main evetn since September 28, and The Bro-Mans & Spud’s 1st main event of 2013. This was Spud’s 1st match on Impact since July 18 and his 1st match overall since One Night Only: World Cup on December 6. This was Sting’s 1st match on Impact since October 31 and 1st match overall since One Night Only: Tournament of Champions on November 1. This match was also Ethan Carter III’s 10th win, giving him the most wins without a loss for any wrestler.

On Superstars, for the 4th week in a row, we had a Diva’s Match, as Natalya wrestled Aksana. This was Natalya’s 1st match on Superstars since July 4 and Aksana’s 1st match on the show since December 12. In the next match, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Antonio Cesaro. This was Ziggler’s 1st match on the show since October 17 and Cesaro’s 1st match on the show since November 28. This was the 1st time since Cesaro on November 27 & 28 to wrestle on NXT and Superstars in the same week. This was also the 2nd week in a row that someone wrestled on both NXT & Main Event, as Natalya & Aksana wrestled on both shows. This was the 1st time since November 7 that there were no tag matches on Superstars.

On Smackdown, for the 4th time in 3 months, The Usos wrestled The Wyatt Family. They last wrestled each other on Raw on December 9. This was both teams 1st opening match since Smackdown on November 15. Next, in his 1st singles match since Raw on September 2 & 1st one on Smackdown since August 23, Cody Rhodes wrestled Antonio Cesaro. This was the 1st time since the week of November 27 that Antonio Cesaro wrestled on NXT, Superstars, & Smackdown in the same week. Next, in a 1st time match, and in their 1st match on Smackdown since November 15, The Prime Time Players wrestled Curtis Axel & Ryback. Next, in their 1st match against each other since Raw on October 21, Dolph Ziggler wrestled Randy Orton. Next, Daniel Bryan wrestled Damien Sandow. This was the 1st time they wrestled each other since Main Event back on February 6. Next, we had 3 singles matches featuring Big E. Langston, Mark Henry, & John Cena against The Shield. First, we saw Langston VS Ambrose, in their 3rd match against each other, as they wrestled at Hell in a Cell and Raw on October 27 & 28, but not in November. This was the 1st Champion VS Champion Match since Raw on November 11, when The Rhodes Family wrestled Randy Orton. This was Ambrose’s 1st singles match since Raw on December 9. Next, in a 1st time match, Mark Henry wrestled Roman Reigns. This was Reigns’ 1st singles match since Raw on August 26. In the final match, John Cena wrestled Seth Rollins for the very 1st time. This was both Cena & Rollins’ 3rd straight main event. This was Rollins’ 1st singles match since September 6 on Smackdown. This was the 1st time since Raw on August 26 that all 3 members of The Shield wrestled in 3 separate singles matches. On that show, Daniel Bryan wrestled them in 3 matches in a row. This was the 1st time since November 29 that Smackdown did not have a Diva’s Match.

On WWE’s 11th Annual Tribute to The Troops, we started the show with Daniel Bryan VS Bray Wyatt. The match ended in a Disqualification when the rest of The Wyatt Family interfered, which brought out CM Punk, which was the 2nd Disqualification this week This led to Vickie Guerrero coming out and making a tag match, with Bryan & Punk VS Harper & Rowan That match also ended in a Disqualification, which was the 1st time since Smackdown on November 29 that there was 2 Disqualifications on the same show. The tag match was a re-match from Survivor Series on November 24. Due to Bray Wyatt’s interference and then the save from John Cena, Vickie Guerrero then made the match a 6-Man Tag Team Match, which was the 1st one since this week’s Main Event on December 25. This was the 1st time since Smackdown on November 29 that someone wrestled multiple times on the same show. On that show, The Rhodes Family VS The Shield became Punk & The Rhodes VS The Shield in a 6-Man Tag, and then Mysterio, Punk, Rhodes, & Usos VS Shield & The Wyatt Family in a 12-Man Tag. With his 3 matches, Daniel Bryan became the 2nd wrestler after Antonio Cesaro to compete in over 100 matches and with his 3 wins, Bryan took the top spot on the Win-Loss Standings from Randy Orton, with only Raw left in the year. The other 2 matches on the show saw R-Truth wrestle Fandango and The Big Show wrestle Damien Sandow. Both matches were re-matches from earlier in the year, as Truth & Fandango wrestled on Raw on May 6 and September 16 and Show & Sandow competed against each other on Main Event on September 25.
