Hope all is well for you and the rest of the PW crew and your families this season. I'm was watching Raw and Kofi Kingston and was wondering why he is never pushed? I know sometimes (most times?) it's all about who Vince wants to push, but I also remember on several DVDs that a lot of guys talk about guys in the back who want to work and guys in the back who are happy with their positions and don't mind not having bigger spots? Any idea who some of these guys are and which guys Vince just refuses to see in a higher spot on the card?
I think Kofi hasn't gotten a bigger push because when they have pushed him, he's never really connected with the audience in a deep, meaningful way. Sure, he gets a reaction but there have been moments where you see the likes of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Kane, Edge whoever go from characters that are there to being seen as legitimate stars and anytime they've provided that platform for Kingston, it never seems to stick. It could be his fault or it could be creative, but it likely falls in the middle, plus he's handicapped by the fact that unlike previous eras, he's being tasked with getting over on TV during a time period where the company constantly reminds the audience that they are *just* watching a show, so it takes them out of that emotional attachment. I think it's obvious watching the WWE product which guys WWE won't push beyond a certain level - Cesaro, Ziggler and Sandow are the three that come to my mind right now and I don't get how they aren't used in a larger, more meaningful way. Sometimes it's politics, sometimes it's guys not being able to carry the ball - sometimes it's just that those in charge don't see their potential the way those of us outside the bubble do, but every time, it's something that hinders WWE's long-term outlook.
Was just going through this day in history for December 4, and noticed that in 1993 Tommy Dreamer lost the ECW Tag Team Title on that show. I know revisionist history is a HUGE thing in wrestling, but wasn't the story coming out of him winning the ECW Tag Title with Raven in '99 that he had never held a title before and now it was with his enemy?? Did they mean after ECW became "Extreme" that he never was a champion??
No, that was specifically always said about Dreamer as a singles champion. The Tag run was maybe one month and was more to set up an angle between Dreamer and Shane Douglas then. The Tommy Dreamer character that he would become identified with hadn't been fully formed yet, either.
After listening to Mike's DJ Hyde interview I have a question-- When you say that their deals are up after the new year, what exactly does that mean? Is their deal up then for iPPV's?
The promotion's DVD and iPPV agreements expire in January, so they are in a position where they can re-negotiate and try to get more money for themselves.
I bought tickets for a live WWE Holiday Tour Show on Monday, December 30th in Toronto. The same day they have a Raw Taping in Richmond. On our show they are advertising John Cena and others, but also advertising him on the Raw Taping. Obviously, he'll be at Raw, right? Aren't they setting themselves up for some sad kids once Cena doesn't show? And who can we really expect to see that won't be on Raw? The C-Team?
I'm not sure where Cena will be but WWE needs to knock off the double advertising of Cena for one of those markets ASAP because they are guaranteed some let down fans in whatever market he doesn't appear in. It's always possible they could have him appear "via satellite" on Raw though or something like that.
Whatever happened to Jersey All Pro Wrestling?
They shut down operations. They recently announced they would be running Rahway, NJ in 2014. We will see.
