This might seem like a rather wild comparison at first, but aren't Kevin Nash, CM Punk and, to a, thus far, lesser degree, Daniel Bryan sharing the same experience? They all got over on themselves, one way or another, and got cut down to happy-go-lucky status once WWE chose to push them. I remember the time Nash made the Diesel character work as this unstoppable force, injected with the sarcastic humor he could display during his time as Michaels' bodyguard and the fans really ate that combination up. He was considered simply cool back then (the fact that he might have never been better in the ring then around this time helped too). Once he was champion, he had to play baby kisser, scarily similar to what happened to Punk after the "Summer of Punk". I honestly fear for Bryan to suffer the same fate as the year nears it's end.
WWE pushed Diesel hard so I can't put him in this category. But yes, Punk did a great job of getting himself over and then creative took away many of the things he did that got the character over. They have done the same thing with Bryan. My take is that if a guy manages to get himself over in a way that Vince McMahon didn't intend then that character will be changed to Vince's vision of it, usually to the detriment of the worker.
Randy Orton vs. Big Show headlines one of the biggest PPVs of the year? Seriously? I don't have a big problem with Big Show but I think he should be upper mid-card at best. But Orton is so boring I can't stand it. Sorry for the rant...on to my question. Do you think Vince will ever wake up and start listening to the fans? The Daniel Bryan push really started to get my hopes up but then (as I should have expected) those hopes were crushed quickly. Does Vince even listen to the live crowds? The pops that Bryan gets are incredible. Also, what happened to Sandow's push? Did he look at somebody the wrong way? The Shield push seems to be over maybe it's time to start pushing them as singles. Your thoughts?
Vince really believes he knows what we want more than we do. He said SummerSlam failed because he didn't give us a good enough attraction and Big Show vs. Orton was his solution to thet problem. So do I think he will ever listen to the fans? Not any time soon.
During Survivor series, Michael Cole commented that John Cena has held more world championships than anyone, except for Ric Flair. Isn't Sting just behind Rick Flair in number of championships? Isn't Sting a 15x world champion? It seems funny they don't give him that credit when they put in in a survey for the WWE Universe to vote on not too long ago.
WWE doesn't count the TNA Title as a World Title so not in their eyes. Between the NWA and WCW World Titles, he has held it 8 times. That is what they count.
We didn't WWE do all elimination matches at Survivor Series, they even have enough guys to a 5 tag team vs. 5 tag team match. What do they have to lose? buyrates?
Well, when you consider Vince McMahon wanted to eliminate the Survivor Series name a few years ago before changing his mind, that tells you he doesn't think much of the concept any more. Given what they presented in its place, I think and old school PPV with elimination matches would have probably drawn more buys.
How have there been absolutely no talks within WWE regarding John Cena vs. Undertaker? I think I speak for fans everywhere when I want to scream at Vince McMahon “IT’S RIGHT THERE! YOUR MAIN EVENT FOR WRESTLEMANIA IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU AND YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE TO BRING ANYBODY IN! IT’S RIGHT THERE!â€
They have probably discussed it, but right now that isn't the direction they want to go in. They see Cena as their one true draw and they want him to stay strong. Taker's streak matters too.
