DOLPH ZIGGLER TALKS HIS CONCUSSION, SUMMERSLAM AND MORE

By Brian Fritz on 2013-08-09 15:33:22

WWE superstar Dolph Ziggler talks with Brian Fritz of BetweenTheRopes.com about SummerSlam taking place August 18 on pay-per-view, how big the moment was for him cashing in the Money in the Bank suitcase the day after WrestleMania 29 and winning the World Heavyweight Champion, suffering a concussion and how big of a setback it was for him, the fan going after Randy Orton during the recent tour in South Africa, splitting up with Big E Langston and AJ Lee so quickly and more.

Here are some highlights from the interview:

On whether or not he will have a bigger moment that winning the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw the day after WrestleMania 29:

Honestly, no. I hope one day there’s such meaning and there’s such force behind people that we’re solidly behind me, this guy that never wins, almost never wins. And this guy, they see all this potential, they see how hard I work, they see how much I want to be the best and always seem to come out on the short end of the stick. I was such a relief, I think, not just for me, but for those hardcore fans that have been behind me going “how many times is Ziggler going to be screwed over before he pulls one off’.

On whether or not suffering a concussion made him think about changing his style or scaling back:

Honestly, no. I’ve been pulled aside by legends and guys backstage and being told that I put my body through too much sometimes. I understand that but I’m out there in the ring trying to give the best possible performance I can. I can’t not run into something as hard as I can. I can’t not give my all. And one day that could be a problem but so far I’ve never been injured to where I was out for weeks from anything I’ve done. I got kicked in the head one time and, like you said, it was a fluke, and every other thing I’ve done I put my body on the line because I want to because I want this crowd to go ooh and ahh and wow we’ve got to get behind this guy. I go there to prove to myself that I’m going to work harder than everyone else and I always will.

On his split with Big E. Langston and AJ Lee and if he is surprised it happened already:

I feel like before the concussion we were finally starting to get some momentum. I was the only guy in this business who had a girlfriend and a giant bodyguard ringside with me and would still lose every night. As we were starting to work together and actually piece together some wins, I started to feel this is how a faction works. Just then, I got the concussion and I think that set back a few things and put in motion that maybe it’s time everyone goes their separate ways.
