ESPN CLASSIC ADDING MORE CLASSIC WRESTLING TO THE ROTATION

By Mike Johnson on 2013-07-26 09:55:24
ESPN Classic will begin airing old episodes of the Global Wrestling Federation, a promotion that began airing in the early 1990s with a strong talent roster that included The Patriot, Jerry Lynn, Sean Waltman, Eddie Gilbert, Mick Foley, Terry Gordy and more before slowly declining into using local Texas independent talents and featured episodes where the network cut out any implied acts of violence.

The promotion allowed the first national exposure for Booker T, Stevie Ray, Lynn, Waltman and a young Buff Bagwell, who worked as the Handsome Stranger.

The episodes will begin airing on 8/5 with a marathon of episodes and will settle into different timeslots from that point on.

In the past, ESPN Classics has aired episodes of AWA and Herb Abrams' UWF, but out of any real sequence, so expect that here as well.

ESPN has the rights to re-broadcast the videos from their original deal with the promotion.
