Terri Bey sent the following. ... Adam "Edge" Copeland received the Lou Thesz award last weekend in Waterloo, IA this weekend.
I attended the event in person. It was a great event. On Friday night, at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center, there was the Impact Pro Wrestling Show. The show was awesome, overall. There were signings by Danny Hodge, Larry "The Axe" Hennig, Jim Ross, Gerry Brisco, Baron Von Raschke, "Mad Dog" Vachon, and Edge.
It was so awesome to get to talk with these great legends, especially Danny Hodge. He is still strong as ever. Edge was very gracious to his fans. I had a great time chatting with him all weekend. Being that Edge is one of my all time favorites, it was a really honor.
I did go to some of the events the next day at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum, such as part of the WWE History presentation. I went around the museum, and was amazed by what I saw. I had never been to the museum before, and I loved all the artifacts (old robes, old wrestling boots, books, periodicals, etc). Fans of all kinds of wrestling (pro,collegiate, independent, etc.) should come to this museum, and this event.
I got to hobnob with Ross, Brisco, Hodge, and Edge again, before leaving due to injury. However, I did come back for the Banquet.
The Banquet was awesome. Of course, the main focus was the Ceremony, and it was run well. Everyone kept their speeches short. None of the living inductees, Ric Flair (personal), or Bill Watts (health) could make it, and Chris Taylor was inducted posthumously by his widow (now remarried).
Gerald Brisco made a nice speech for Flair. Jim Ross' speech on Watt's behalf was awesome. He discussed Watts' ability to move well for a big man, and discussed Watts' headlining Madison Square Garden against Bruno Sammartino after only three years in the business.
Matt Hughes (Tragos Award) thanked God, his wife, and others. Jim Brunzell (Frank Gotch Award) talked about his past partners, including Brian Blair. He said for everyone to keep Paul Ornsdorff in their prayers as Ornsdorff is battling cancer.
George Napolitano (Melby Award)talked about his photography career.
The headlining speech was given by Edge (Lou Thesz Award). Edge talked about getting picked up from the airport by Danny Hodge and his wife. Edge also said Hodge was showing his strength by pushing his fist into Edge's ribs, and Edge said he could feel his ribs going into his lungs. Edge then concluded with how he was blessed, and he was thankful for the honor, and it was appreciated.
Arda Ocal did a very good job as the Master of Ceremonies.
"Mad Dog" Vachon got a standing ovation at the event.
Overall, this was an awesome event.
