RAMPAGE JACKSON-TNA UPDATES

By Mike Johnson on 2013-06-05 19:10:00
Earlier today, Spike held a conference call with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, TNA President Dixie Carter, Spike President Kevin Kay and Bellator MMA head Bjorn.

During the conference, it was made clear that Jackson is a huge wrestling fan and intends to wrestle for TNA. They made numerous references to Jackson wrestling for the company.

During the call, I asked Jackson about his fandom for the business as earlier, he had noted he was a huge fan and excited about working with two of his favorites, Sting and Hulk Hogan. He noted that he and his brother would attend Memphis cards at the Mid-South Coliseum growing up and would write in to get free tickets to the WMC-TV tapings on Saturday mornings. He specifically mentioned Jerry Lawler, Jeff Jarrett and his favorite, The Master of Pain, who later went on to become the Undertaker.

Jackson also noted that for two years in a row when he was younger, he would dress up as The Ultimate Warrior for Halloween, pressing his friends over his head. He said that getting to be involved in pro wrestling was like being a kid again for him and he was getting to do something he always wanted to do, noting that he got into amateur wrestling because he wanted to be a pro wrestler.

Jackson also noted the crossover of MMA and pro wrestling in Japan, noting that in Japan, there are fighters that do both and that's what he wants to do.

TNA President Dixie Carter said that there would be a "team" for Jackson to train with in Southern California and OVW was mentioned as a place he may train in as well.

I asked Carter what lessons had been learned from the deal all the parties signed with King Mo Lawal and she noted that Lawal's injuries had prevented him from wrestling for TNA so far, so they are being patient.

Jackson said he was excited about going to Impact Wrestling tomorrow and was looking forward to meeting with the wrestlers as well as the creative team so he could jump right in.

We'll have more on the conference tomorrow. PWInsider.com Elite subscribers are listening to the entire conference call right now.
