BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING BACK AT THE WEEK IN WRESTLING FROM WWE AND TNA; 20,000 MINUTES OF WRESTLING

By Richard Trionfo on 2012-12-24 19:31:27
The holiday season is upon us and that means that we lose a few shows for best of editions and recaps of the year. Two of the seven shows gave us highlights while a third one joins the group next week.

Even though Raw has three hours of television, they did not win the week. With the amount of wrestling on Raw, if Smackdown was not commercial free, they probably would have beaten Raw this week. Raw could not even hold on to second place and fell to third for the first time since Raw 1000. Smackdown won for the third time since Raw went to three hours, and for the first time by itself since Raw 1000. That week also saw Impact beat Raw.

Main Event had their best totals in their twelve week existence and they broke the two hundred minute barrier. They had their longest match at eighteen minutes. Smackdown passed forty-one hundred minutes while Raw should pass forty-two hundred minutes next week. NXT passed twenty-three hundred minutes.

The next ten minute match that we see on Raw will be the one hundredth since I started this column and they will join Smackdown in that exclusive club. Ring of Honor is at ninety-seven matches, but they will not have a new show for a few weeks so it would seem logical that Raw would get that honor.

I have been talking about this milestone for weeks, but we finally passed twenty thousand minutes of wrestling. With an average of one hundred thirty-five and one-quarter minutes of wrestling per week in the one hundred forty-eight weeks of this column we got passed twenty-thousand minutes. Minute twenty thousand occurred during the Tara versus Mickie James match on Impact.

It took 78 weeks to get to ten thousand minutes with only six shows and a nine hours of wrestling. It took another 70 weeks to get through the next ten thousand minutes, but some of those weeks had nine hours of wrestling, some had ten hours of wrestling, and we currently have eleven hours per week of wrestling.

In the twelve weeks since Main Event debuted, we have averaged slightly more than 174 minutes of wrestling per week. If that average is maintained, we will hit thirty thousand minutes by week 206, right before the end of year number four in February 2014.

This column does not include the matches from WWE's Saturday Morning Slam show.

The wrestling times below cover the wrestling that takes place during the show so commercials are not included. All times are rounded to the closest minute (examples: a 4:23 match will be listed as 4 minutes while a 4:32 match will be listed as 5 minutes and anything under a minute is rounded up to a minute).
