WWE SATURDAY MORNING SLAM REPORT: LOOKING AT THE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE; REGAL VS. RYDER; THE MIZ; CM PUNK; AND MORE

This week’s episode of Saturday Morning Slam will focus on the Intercontinental Title with a look at its history and importance to the WWE.

Our match today will feature William Regal against Zack Ryder.

With the focus on the Intercontinental Title, we start with the current champion, the Miz.

The Intercontinental Title has been held by most of the top superstars in the WWE in the 30 year history.

The fave five for this week looks at five Intercontinental Champions.

In September 1979, Pat Patterson won a tournament in Rio de Janeiro to become the first Intercontinental Champion.

Next is Chris Jericho. He won the most titles with nine.

Third is the Ultimate Warrior. He was the first to win the WWE Title while being the Intercontinental Champion.

The Honky Tonk Man was the longest reigning champion, holding it for 1 year, 2 months, and 27 days.

The fifth is Randy Savage. At Wrestlemania III, he had one of the greatest matches against Ricky Steamboat.

CM Punk has this week’s Pop Quiz. Who did Randy Savage beat to become the WWE Champion. Was it Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, or Ted DiBiase.

We are back and it is time for the Match of the Week and your announcers are Josh Mathews and Santino Marella.

This week’s match features William Regal against Zack Ryder.

Regal wants the crowd to be quiet while the fans woo woo woo away. Ryder wants to fist bump with Regal, but Regal refuses. Ryder poses on the turnbuckles and the crowd cheers for him. Regal does his salute to the crowd and they boo. They cheer for Ryder again and they boo Regal a second time.

Regal with an arm drag take down and then he works on the wrist and he argues with Santino about whether he has Ryder or not and that distraction allows Ryder to get a near fall with a rollup. They lock up and Regal returns to the wrist. Ryder with a reversal and Regal reverses the hold but Ryder is able to regain control.

Regal kips up and he tries to escape with an arm drag but Ryder holds on to the wrist lock and he turns it into a hammer lock. Regal gets to the ropes and Ryder releases the hold. They lock up and Regal works on the wrist again. Ryder with a reversal and he sends Regal to the mat. Ryder with a drop kick and he tries for the Broski Boot but Regal is able to get to the floor before Ryder cannot connect with the boot and we go to commercial.

We are back and Regal is on the apron but Ryder brings him back into the ring. Regal with a single leg take down and Regal gets a near fall but Ryder is able to get his shoulder up. Ryder gets back to his feet and we have a test of strength with Ryder gaining the advantage but Regal with a bridge to keep his shoulders of the mat for a moment. Ryder gets a few near fall. Regal gets Ryder to the mat and he returns to the wrist lock.

Regal also works on the bicep and triceps. Ryder with a reversal. Regal with a reversal and drop toe hold and he manipulates the hand. Regal with a hammer lock and Ryder returns to his feet and Ryder with a reversal and rollup for a near fall. Regal returns to the wrist but Ryder with a monkey flip to escape followed by a drop kick and cross body for a near fall.

Ryder hits the Rough Ryder for the three count.

Winner: Zack Ryder

We go to commercial.

We are back and we see a feature about the Make A Wish Foundation work by the WWE superstars.

It is time for the answer to the Pop Quiz, and it was Ted DiBiase who Randy Savage defeated to become the WWE Champion at Wrestlemania IV.

Becoming a champion means not taking any shortcuts to become the best.

Next week, we will celebrate Family Health and Fitness Day. John Cena will be featured on the show.

Miz has five tips on how to be Awesome.

First, dress the part. You need to look like a champion.

Second, walk the part. When you walk into a room, pretend there is a string attached to your head and pull it up.

Third, Listen to Naysayers. If someone says that you cannot do something, prove them wrong.

Fourth, Be Loud, Be Heard. Talk like you are a star. If you are not heard, no one is listening.

Finally, you can be good, you can be bad, but there is nothing better than to be awesome.
