MORE ON HOGAN-NEW SITUATION (UPDATED)

By Mike Johnson on 2012-07-20 01:03:50
It appears the Hulk Hogan-Northeast Wrestling situation may be yet another example of Hogan not understanding Twitter and the online medium.

Based on comments written to Hogan and his responses, Hogan was asked if he would be headlining at the Northeast Wrestling 9/22 stadium event. The link sent to Hogan was to a report from an unreliable "NEWZ" site that doesn't create their own content but instead rewrites stories from reputable websites.

Hogan responded that Northeast Wrestling was falsely advertising that he would be wrestling and commented that he wouldn't be there. The reality is that NEW didn't do anything remotely close to false advertising Hogan. The website (which I refuse to name) however, used wording that led Hogan to believe it was being advertised that he would be wrestling.

Hogan obviously had no understanding of who was claiming what he would do at the event and chose to blame NEW, who were completely innocent. The only thing NEW has written regarding Hogan in the last week was that he was recovering from surgery and would be ready for 9/22, which is several months away.

The original fan who wrote Hogan even noted that Northeast Wrestling was not a "poster" at their forum and credited the "NEWZ" site with the information.

In contacting Northeast Wrestling's Michael Lombardi, he noted that he had a signed contract for the appearance, that there had been no communication from Hogan's people prior to the Tweet being written and that he would be contacting Hogan's rep first thing Friday AM.

It should be noted that in a separate Twitter post, Hogan claimed his injury would keep him from the 9/22 date. That may have been him selling the TNA storyline.

My prediction is that, just like Hogan once retweeting that someone was "balls deep" inside Brooke Hogan, this will come down to him completely misunderstanding the online medium. It may be time for Hogan to hire someone to survey the lay of the land for him online, because it always ends up being an embarrassing situation for him when something like this goes down.

My guess is that by this time tomorrow, all will be back where it was before Hogan's outburst on Twitter, but stay tuned.

1:55 AM Update: A number of readers have forwarded to PWInsider.com an email Newsletter sent out by Hogan's agent's company, Prince Marketing, dated Tuesday 7/10 advertising the Hogan appearance. The complete verbiage from that newsletter reads:

"PMG Presents Meet & Greet featuring Hulk Hogan
Wrestling with the Stars

Hulk Hogan, the biggest star in the history of professional wrestling, will be part of a special meet and greet with all of his fans beginning during "Wrestling with the Stars" on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. Unlike past signings, fans will have the opportunity to meet Hulk in the order they purchased their tickets. The earlier you purchase them the earlier you meet him. No need to wait on line for hours, with numbers being called to let fans know when they should get on line. As a result, fans can experience all of the activities at the stadium and meet the other superstars instead of waiting on multiple hour-long lines. For additional information, please visit northeastwrestling.com.

Obviously, Northeast Wrestling isn't guilty of false advertising Hogan, unless he's going to blame his own agent for false advertising him as well.

As I noted above, I expect the entire thing is Hogan being confused about the situation and speaking out of turn.
