EXTREME RISING NEWS AND NOTES INCLUDING NEW PHILADELPHIA MAIN EVENT, INJURIES AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2012-06-30 00:43:28

I really wish tonight's Extreme Rising event had been the show produced by the company in April. Gone was the drama and sad feeling of the debut event and in its place was a well wrestled series of matches that were physical, hard hitting and well versed in the ECW style. Homicide vs. Devon Storm, Matt Hardy vs. Jerry Lynn, Sabu vs. Papadon, Pescadilla vs. Bestia 666 and BLK OUT vs. Dramaticos were all good to great matches. Fans also got that ECW atmosphere with the Gangstas and Sandman segments and overall, it was a strong show. What was even more amazing to me was how hot the crowd was (I'd guess it was in the 250 range) for most of the show, despite it being one of the hottest nights of the year and the building not having air conditioning. Had this been night one, Rising would have had a sh**load of momentum coming out of the show.

Devon Storm required seven stitches to close a hardway cut on the back of his head from the corner of a steel chair catching him during his bout with Homicide.

Jerry Lynn suffered a ton of cuts and scratches to his back taking a sidewinder through a table from Matt Hardy. You can see the effects in this photo:

The card had to be re-arranged somewhat due to travel issues. Pescadilla was held up at the Newark Airport getting through immigration and then he and Bestia had issues tracking down their ride to the show. That forced Stevie Richards, who was in the car as well, to have his match with Luke Hawx pushed back to the second half of the show.

Richards was actually in a car for seven hours and got to the show with enough time to dress and change for his match with Luke Hawx. Most of what they did was actually called in the ring.

The new main event in Philadelphia tomorrow is Matt Hardy vs. Homicide vs. Jerry Lynn following an angle where Homicide laid out Hardy's girlfriend Reby Sky with an Ace Crusher tonight.

Former ROH star Boogalou was visiting at the show.

Set for tomorrow in Philadelphia:
*Jerry Lynn vs. Homicide vs. Matt Hardy
*The Gangstas vs. BLK OUT.
*Stevie Richards vs. Luke Hawx.
*The FBI vs. The Dramatics.
*Also appearing are Sabu, Perry Saturn, The Sandman, Crowbar, Blue Meanie, Pitbull Gary Wolfe, CW Anderson, Bestia 666, Pesadilla, Balls Mahoney and more.
