MASKED REPUBLIC TO LAUNCH NON-PROFIT CHARITY DIVISION. PRESIDENT TO WALK IN AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE TO KICK OFF THE EFFORT.
June 26, 2011 - San Diego, CA
Masked Republic, the world's only multi-media company dedicated to expanding lucha libre beyond the borders of Mexico, has always specialized in producing battles of good vs. evil for their fans and supporters to enjoy. This July, the San Diego based company will take on a new kind of fight, one outside the world of rings and arenas, a fight to bring support and awareness to a number of national charities.
Having worked closely with a variety of local organizations and charities, including the Border City YMCA, the National City Pop Warner Football league, and the Love Thy Neighbor Toy Drive, the launch of the new initiative will be the first time the company's efforts are expanded on a national basis.
Three charties have been selected for the company's initial fundraising efforts, each with a deep personal connection for the company's CEO Ruben Zamora and President Kevin Kleinrock: The American Cancer Society (
cancer.org), FAST Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (
cureangelman.org), and the American Diabetes Association (
diabetes.org).
On Saturday, July 21, Kleinrock will participate in the Castro Valley Relay For Life, just one of over 5,000 relays which take place annually throughout the United States in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society. "I do not know a single person whose life has not been affected either directly or indirectly by one form of cancer or another," said Kleinrock. "I have lost 3 of my 4 grandparents, my aunt, and my mentor in the professional wresting business all to various forms of the disease and my father is a survivor. When the opportunity to participate in this year's Castro Valley Relay for Life was presented, I absolutely wanted to take part and involve Masked Republic in the fundraising effort."
With every cent collected from Relay participants going directly to the American Cancer Society, Masked Republic will attempt to motivate lucha fans to donate by raffling off company merchandise and limited edition items worth equal to the amount of money raised up to $5,000. For every $5 pledged through Kleinrock's Relay link, the donating party will receive 1 entry into the raffle which will take place on July 22 after the Relay event. Masked Republic shirts, DVDs, and masks will be among the prizes raffled off. The more people donate, the more valuable the prize pool will become and individuals donating will receive more entries for each increment of $5 which they pledge.
Donations to Masked Republic's Relay For Life efforts can be made through Masked Republic's new MRcharities.org website which currently redirects to their Relay for Life donation page. All donations are processed through the secure American Cancer Society website and are made directly to the ACS. The American Cancer Society is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and therefore donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
"Life is a daily fight," said Masked Republic CEO Zamora. "Our Masked Republic charity initiatives are our way to help those who need tag team partners both in fundraising efforts and awareness allowing us to step into the ring with them and for them. If we can help increase awareness, raise funds to help find cures, or improve the quality of life and raise the spirits of even a few individuals, then our efforts are well worth it. I encourage everyone to keep an eye on the soon to launch MRcharities.org for how they too can make a difference."

About The American Cancer Society:
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.8 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, almost 12 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
