BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING BACK AT THE WEEK IN WRESTLING FROM WWE, TNA, AND ROH

By Richard Trionfo on 2011-03-18 22:30:29
On a week that actually saw slightly less wrestling than last week, there is one bright spot for wrestling fans as By the Numbers equals Joe DiMaggio’s major league record for the longest batting streak. WWE Smackdown gave us their second best week of 2011 with more than a half hour of wrestling on the show with a 2011 high of eight matches.

The other two WWE shows on television had slight increases over last week but are still well under their averages and their internet offering, NXT, while being one of the better shows of the week maintained its wrestling total from last week. Both Ring of Honor and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling had double digit drops from last week with Impact in danger of falling into single digits. It was their lowest total since Week 34 when there was only 14 minutes of wrestling, and broke the mark set in the first week of this column by two minutes.

This week saw another four matches join the ever growing club of one minute matches with WWE and TNA each providing two matches. On the other side of the wrestling scale, there were only two matches that were longer than ten minutes, one more than last week. However, there were no other matches longer than six minutes so four matches tied for the third longest of the week with Raw, Superstars, and Impact represented.

A few other milestones were reached this week. WWE Superstars passed eleven hundred minutes and we also passed fourteen hundred total matches.

Next week should see a plethora of milestones being passed. Even with Ring of Honor on hiatus for a few weeks before their finale, here are some of the potential ones assuming averages are met:
Total Wrestling: 7500 Minutes WWE Raw: 1500 Minutes
WWE NXT: 600 Minutes
TNA Impact: 1400 Minutes
WWE Smackdown: 1600 Minutes
WWE Smackdown: 300 Matches

The wrestling times below cover the wrestling that takes place during the show so commercials are not included. All times are rounded to the closest minute (examples: a 4:23 match will be listed as 4 minutes while a 4:32 match will be listed as 5 minutes and anything under a minute is rounded up to a minute).

Based on the same theory that I utilized for the determination of three hour episodes of Impact, this week’s Raw qualified as a three hour show because it ran approximately fifteen minutes past its scheduled end time.
