May 1993 was an interesting time for Hulk Hogan fans. Hogan had returned to the WWF and promptly won the WWF title in a surprising twist to Wrestlemania IX, quickly defeating the late Yokozuna. However, the title reign didn't draw and Hogan was gone by June of that year. During the time period before he departed the company, however, Hogan returned to another former home promotion, New Japan Pro Wrestling.
While the story today is that Hulk Hogan jumped from the WWF to WCW, the reality was that he was gone from the WWF for about a year, with his only wrestling appearances being for New Japan.
One of the first, however, took place at the Wrestling Dontaku event in Fukuoka, Japan, where Hogan met Japanese legend The Great Muta for the first time inside the ring. What makes the match even more unique is that Hogan was the reigning WWF champion at the time while Muta was the reigning IWGP champion, creating not just a dream match against two colorful and unique polar opposites, but two of the top champions of two top promotions for that time period.
So, enjoy this week's Youtube Wrestling Classic, a great and rarely seen Hulk Hogan classic against a most unique foe.
