My question is about WWE's "Did You Know?" graphics... what's the point? The only people seeing them are those that are already watching Raw, so why brag to your own audience?
I don't quite get it either, unless they want to give fans ammo to argue with friends about the popularity of WWE. Those kind of (well spun) stats should be used in press releases and as fodder for mainstream news pieces, not for ads during the show, in my opinion.
A couple years ago I watched on online trailer of an inside the WWF movie by Maxx Payne/Man Mountain Rock. Whatever came of this?
The film, first called "The Thing That Should Not Be" (which is a Metallica song title) and later renamed "The Real Maxx Payne", was footage that the former WWF star had filmed with his own camcorder backstage, in hotels, and on the bus during a WWF European Tour. My guess is that WWE lawyers stepped in and put an end to it, since all talk of it coming out ceased. I highly doubt Payne ever got releases from the wrestlers he filmed, or WWE, to distribute the footage.
The Red Rooster was an awful gimmick that Terry Taylor and to endure, What would you say were the 5 worst given to talented wrestlers?
I would have to say, in my opinion, Red Rooster (Terry Taylor), Gobbeldy Gooker (Hector Guerrero), Dr. Issac Yankem (Glen Jacobs/Kane), Lazer-Tron (Hector Guerrero again!), and Eugene (Nick Dinsmore) would be five of the worst cases of talented wrestlers being given bad gimmicks.
Now I know that Hulk Hogan CONSTANTLY references body slamming Andre the Giant in front of 93,000 fans. But if memory serves me correct, I remember, at one time or another, seeing the Ultimate Warrior GORILLA PRESS SLAM Andre... if I'm right, WHY is THAT NEVER mentioned??? Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I could not tell you when it happened, but the actual MOVE itself does ring pretty clear.
One reason it isn't mentioned is because Warrior isn't around to remind us that he slammed Andre, like Hogan is. Another reason is because, while Warrior did slam Andre on numerous occasions, he never "Gorilla Pressed" the big man. While Warrior might have been strong enough to lift Andre, he never would have been able to slam him without Andre "helping it along", and Warrior certainly could not lift Andre and extend his arms overhead for a press slam. Andre was just too big at that point.
What is the whole story of a wrestler named Quick Draw Rick McGraw?
Rick McGraw wrestled with Troy Graham as the "New York Dolls" in Memphis, managed by Jimmy Hart, tagged with Gino Brito in Canada, and then formed a team with Steve Travis when he first entered the WWF in the early 80's. McGraw soon became a regular on WWF television, the type that always put in a "good effort" before losing. McGraw did an injury angle where Killer Khan broke his neck, and appeared to be on the verge of a push at one point when Arnold Skaaland managed him for a short period. However, his most famous wrestling moment occurred shortly before his death. He challenged Roddy Piper, at the time the hottest heel in wrestling, saying that if Piper was as good as he bragged, why didn't he wrestle on TV instead of talk? The match saw Piper absolutely obliterate McGraw, leaving him laying and proclaiming "That's why they don't let me wrestle on TV". Sadly, McGraw died a short time later, on November 1, 1985 in New Haven, Connecticut at the age of 30 of cardiac arrest. In an unusual note, the match with Piper actually aired in some markets the weekend McGraw died, starting a rather ridiculous rumor that Piper's beating had killed him.
