5/4/24 RESULTS FROM NEW JAPAN'S WRESTLING DONTAKU 2024 NIGHT 2

From Fukuoka Japan:

With Nic Nemeth challenging David Finlay, the card was changed up and announced before the show.

1 - DOUKI and Yuya Uemura vs. Francesco Akira and Great O-Khan

DOUKI and Akira exchanged reversals.  DOUKI went for a Jorge Rivera Special.  Akira reverses into a crucifix.

Akira pins DOUKI

2 - Kosei Fujita and Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Callum Newman and Jeff Cobb

ZSJ pins Newman after a Zack Driver.

3 - El Desperado, Shota Umino, El Phantasmo and Hikuleo vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru, SHO, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL

Lots of House of Torture shenanigans.

Umino pins Yujiro after a Blaze Blade and a Death Rider.

Shota Umino looks strong heading into his World title match on May 11 at Resurgence.

4 - Boltin Oleg and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. DOUKI and Taichi

Tanahashi pins TAKA after a High Fly Flow.

After the match, Oleg and Taichi continued to fight and throw stiff shots.

5 -  BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji and Tetsuya Naito vs. Gedo, Drilla Moloney, Clark Conners and Taiji Ishimori 

Naito pins Moloney after a Destino.

6 - IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship:  YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Chase Owens and KENTA

KENTA and Owens pulled out all their heel tactics in this match.   KENTA hit YOSHI-HASHI with a chair.  KENTA tries to enter the ring with the DEFY Championship belt.   The referee stops KENTA and Owens hit a low blow on Goto.   KENTA hits a Psycho Knee on Goto.  Owens with a Jackknife Pin.

Owens pins Goto.

Chase Owens and KENTA win the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.

YOSHI-HASHI and KENTA argue after the match.   TMDK come to the ring and want to be the next challengers.   Guerrillas of Destiny come to the ring to make their case.   

7 -  NEVER Openweight Championship:  Shingo Takagi vs. Gabe Kidd

Kidd comes to the ring in his Mad Man robe. Arguably the biggest singles match of his career so far.

They start elbowing each other in the face.   They battle to the floor.  Takagi bumps into a cameraman and the video almost goes out.   They battle with chairs.  Kidd hits a brainbuster and gets a two count.   Kidd mouths off to El Desperado at ringside on commentary.   Which allows Takagi to recover.   They exchange more strikes and stiff shots.   Takagi hulks up.  Kidd bites Takagi.  Takagi bites him back.   Kidd with a Saito Suplex.  They trade more suplexes.  

Kidd traps Takagi in a choke while on the ropes.  Kidd hits another brainbuster.  Two count.  Kidd with a superplex.  Takagi hits Made in Japan.  Two count.   

They trade more lariats and strikes.   Kidd hits a Piledriver.  Takagi bounces, lands on his feet and hits a shoulder tackle.  Both men are dazed.   They trade more elbows.   

Takagi goes for Last of the Dragon.  Kidd eacapes and hits a stiff headbutt.  He follows with a Piledriver but cannot make the immediate cover.   Kidd goes for the pin and Takagi kicks out. 

Takagi hits a Pumping Bomber and a Takagi Driver 98.   Kidd kicks out.  Kidd spits at Takagi.   Takagi hits a running elbow and Last of the Dragon.

Takagi pins Kidd

Shingo Takagi retains the NEVER Openweight Championship.

 Good stiff match.

8 - IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship:   Nic Nemeth vs. David Finlay 

Finlay attacks Nemeth on his way to the ring.   They fight all around ringside.   Nemeth did a lot of old school moves like eye rakes on the boot and dragging the face on the top rope.   Finlay drops Nemeth on the top rope.   Finlay pushes the referee down and the crowd boos.   Finlay seemed more distracted with the fans.

Nemeth hits an Olympic Slam.   Nemeth hammers Finlay with headbutts and elbows.  They go to the floor and Finlay rams Nemeth’s head into the ringpost.   Finlay goes for a spear but Nemeth dodges and hits the guardrails hard.   Both men beat the count out.

They trade strikes.  Finlay hits Into Oblivion.   Two count.   Nemeth hits a Famouser.  Two count.  Nemeth with a superkick.  Two count.  Finlay hits two powerbombs.  Finlay connects with Overkill.

Finlay pins Nemeth.

David Finlay wins the IWGP Global Championship.

9 -  IWGP World Heavyweight Championship:  Jon Moxley vs. Ren Narita

House of Torture attacks Moxley before the bell.  Umino makes the save.   SHO and Kanemaru handcuff Umino and SHO smashes a chair over his head.   

Moxley fights Narita into the crowd.  Narita hits a running knee, then batters Moxley with a guardrail.   They continue to fight into the crowd.   Narita throws Moxley into the chairs.   Narita beats Moxley with a chair.    SHO and Kanemaru attack Moxley while Narita distracts the referee.   Moxley hits a wild tope suicida sending Narita into the guardrails.  Moxley takes out two tables.   Moxley slams Narita off the apron through the tables.

Narita’s back is cut from the tables.  Narita is tossed in the ring.  Moxley hits a lariat.  Moxley with a release suplex.  Moxley stomps on Narita’s face.   Narita reverses out of Death Rider and chokes Moxley.    Narita grabs his push up bar.   Moxley grabs a sleeper.  Narita pushes Moxley into the referee.  

SHO and Kanemaru attack Moxley.   El Desperado saves Moxley and breaks a piece of the table over SHO’s head.   Desperado takes House of Torture to the back.

Narita hits Moxley with the push up bar. Narita goes for the pin but  Moxley kicks out.   Moxley blocks the Double Cross and hits a Cutter.   They exchange elbows.   Narita applies a rear naked choke, then a Cobra Twist.   Narita with a German Suplex.  Two count.   Moxley with a superplex.  Two count.   Moxley applies the Bulldog Choke.    

Lights go out. 

EVIL and Togo are in the ring and they stomp on Moxley.  They hit a Magic Killer on Moxley.   Togo chokes Moxley with a wire.   EVIL hits Moxley with a chair.    Umino runs back to the ring to save Moxley.   Moxley hits two Death Riders on Narita.

Moxley pins Narita.

Jon Moxley retains the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Moxley sold better in this match overall.  He still did not really sell the push up bar in the face, but he made Narita look like a threat.  

Shota Umino will now face Jon Moxley for the World Title at Resurgence on May 11 in Ontario California.   

EVIL stared at both Umino and Moxley as he left the ring.    

Moxley poses in the ring with the belt.  Umino gives him a blank stare and leaves the ringside.

The Best of the Super Juniors 31 is coming on May 11.
