Since WWE has integrated Drake Maverick's reaction to being released from his WWE contract into his current storyline on WWE NXT as Maverick competes in the WWE NXT Interim Cruiserweight Championship tournament, PWInsider.com has been asked a number of times by readers if Maverick's release was a storyline work or had been turned into one.
The short answer to that is no.
As we noted on Wednesday night in the Elite section, Maverick is still officially being released. WWE opted to tie his reaction to the release on Twitter into his storyline after seeing the big reaction it received online. Since he is still technically with the company until his 90 day period expires, he is being utilized. While there is always a chance his release could be rescinded (which has happened in the past with talents who were let go, including Matt Hardy and The Blue Meanie, among others), as of right now, Maverick's release was and remains legitimate.
