WWE SMACKDOWN REPORT: DID ELLSWORTH JINX CARMELLA?, NAKAMURA IN A HANDICAP MATCH, USOS IN ACTION, CHAD HAS A NEW PARTNER, AND A US TITLE REMATCH

By Richard Trionfo on 2017-08-22 21:59:00

On Sunday night, Shane McMahon was supposed to provide an effective evening of officiating for The United States Title Match and we got none of that.

We are in Brooklyn, New York and your announcers are Tom Phillips, John Layfield, and Byron Saxton.

AJ Styles makes his way to the ring.

AJ welcomes everyone to Smackdown, the House that AJ Styles built.   He says he is still the United States Champion after beating Kevin Owens at SummerSlam.  He says he told the world that he is the workhorse of WWE.  Tonight, he is reinstating the US Title Open Challenge and it starts right . . . NOW.

Kevin Owens comes out and AJ says that he beat him at SummerSlam so they are done.

Kevin says that AJ did not beat him at SummerSlam.   What happened on Sunday, that 20 years later, history repeated itself and a McMahon screwed a legendary Canadian out of a title.  You cannot take any credit for the victory.  Shane McMahon screwed him.

Shane McMahon's music plays and he does the Shane-O Shuffle on the stage before he makes his way to the ring.

Kevin tells AJ that Shane is the man who beat him while Shane dances around the ring.

Shane says hello and he wants to address the things that Kevin said.  Shane says he did exactly what he said he would do.  He called the match right down the middle.  AJ won fair and square.

Kevin says he is not even going to talk about the fact that the man who survived a 'helicopter crash', the man who jumped off Hell in a Cell, but he cannot get into position after getting grazed by a 450 splash.  Kevin is not going to mention how Shane physically assaulted him to lead to AJ's win.  Kevin wants to show something and we see Shane making the three count on AJ (but Kevin does not mention AJ's foot on the rope).  Kevin asks Shane if he saw what we saw.

Shane says that everyone saw AJ's foot on the rope.

Kevin says he should have looked at the three count.  He reminds everyone about the referee making a three count with Kevin's shoulder up and that counted.  Why didn't the three count count on Sunday.

Shane says he saw the foot on the rope as he made the three count and he waved it off.  Shane agrees with Kevin that the referee's count is official.

Kevin says that Shane counted three so it is his title.

AJ tells Kevin and Shane to shut up.

Kevin asks AJ if he doesn't like the truth.

AJ says he doesn't like a whiny ass bitch like Kevin.

AJ says if Kevin wants a match tonight, he will give it to him.

Kevin says he agrees with AJ so he tells Shane to give them the match.

Shane says Kevin has his match tonight.

Kevin says that is not enough.  He got screwed by an official referee a few weeks ago and he got screwed by a special referee on Sunday.  Kevin tells Shane and AJ to let him choose his referee.

Shane says there are plenty of competent officials and AJ says he is okay with that.

Shane says this is Kevin's last shot at the US Title.

Daniel Bryan is on the phone and he says they have a few big surprises.

The Singhs enter the room and they bring in Jinder Mahal.

Jinder says he knows why Daniel wanted to talk to him.  He says Daniel is a progressive thinker and he is good for the WWE business.

Daniel says he sees someone who cannot win without the Singhs.

Jinder calls Daniel xenophobic and he says that he is a hero.

Daniel says that Shinsuke Nakamura deserves retribution for tonight.

Jinder says he cannot put him in a match with Nakamura and Daniel says he is not in a match with Nakamura, the Singhs are.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Kevin Owens walks in the back and he sees Sami Zayn and says he is the guy he is looking for.  Kevin says they have been fighting each other and by each other's side for 15 years.  They can talk about what he has done to Sami and what Sami has done to him.  He needs someone he can trust to be the referee and Sami is the one who fits that label.

Sami says he watched Kevin's DVD and it brought back a lot of history.  He says there are times when they forgot what they were fighting about.

Kevin says they should not be fighting each other.  Kevin says since you have come to Smackdown, you haven't done much.  Tonight, you can do something that counts.  He asks Sami to think about it.

Aiden English is in the ring and he asks for his spotlight and he sings, but he is interrupted by a GLORIOUS entrance.

Match Number One:  Aiden English versus Bobby Roode

English has some words for Roode and Roode goes GLORIOUS with his pose.  English says no and he says Smackdown is his stage.  Roode with a kick and clothesline that sends English over the top rope to the floor.  Roode has to be held back and we go to split screen.

After the match, Renee Young interviews Bobby Roode in the ring.  She asks Roode what brings him to Smackdown.

Bobby congratulates Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon for breaking the bank and cashing in on the biggest free agent in Sports Entertainment today, Bobby Roode.  If you don't know by now, you will know that everything he does is box office.  In a New York Minute, Smackdown went from being great to being absolutely GLORIOUS

We are back and Daniel Bryan is on the phone and Chad Gable enters.  Daniel apologizes for his tag team partner being moved to Raw.  Chad says everyone talks to him about Jason Jordan.  Daniel says that the deal to send Jason Jordan to Raw was to get one of Kurt's friends on Smackdown.  Daniel introduces Shelton.  Daniel suggests the new team take themselves out for a test drive next week.

Daniel welcomes Shelton to Smackdown.

Kevin Owens walks in the back and he gives Sami the referee shirt.

Sami tells Kevin he thought about it and the more he thought about it, the more he thought about every rotten thing he did to him so Sami refuses the offer.

Match Number Two:  Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder versus Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso in a Non Title Match

Mojo and Jey start things off and Jey misses a splash into teh corner.  Mojo with a gutwrench suplex.  Mojo talks about the hype of Jey and hits a Stinger Splash.  Jimmy distracts Mojo and Jey with a drop kick.  Jimmy tags in and he hits a running hip splash into the corner.  Jey tags back in and they make a wish with Mojo's legs and then Jimmy tags back in and he kicks Mojo in the chest.  Jimmy with a leaping leg drop for a near fall.

After the match, Jimmy has something to say.  He says Smackdown Live is on lock.  The tag team division is on lock.  Jimmy welcomes everyone to the Uso Penitentiary.

Jey says they have a message for everyone in the locker room.  You are going to feel what the New Day did.  You are going to feel like someone is creeping behind you.  It is not paranoia, it's the USOS.

Shinsuke Nakamura walks in the back as he gets ready for his match.

We go to commercial.
