8/18 RING OF HONOR WAR OF THE WORLDS UK TOUR LONDON LIVE REPORT

By Martin Bentley on 2017-08-19 07:40:00

A decent house at York Hall in London, didn't seem as many as Revolution Pro Wrestling the night before, but I'd say a good 900 people were there. Ian Riccaboni and BJ Whitmer were the commentary team, and British referees Chris Roberts and Joel Allen joined Todd Sinclair.

1: Mark Briscoe defeated Ryan Smile - solid opener with Smile getting fans into it early with a dive over the ringpost. He tried another one a few minutes later, but Mark cut him off, and won with the Cutthroat Driver.

2: The Addiction (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) defeated Rey Bucanero & Ultimo Guerrero - the fans warmed up to the CMLL stars as the match went on, with Guerrero getting us to do the We Will Rock You claps. A good match, won by the Addiction when Daniels pinned Bucanero with his feet on the ropes.

3: Jay Briscoe defeated Kenny King - another good match, with York Hall really taking to King for his efforts here. Jay won with the Jay Driller, but refused to do the Code of Honor with King after the match.

4: Bully Ray defeated Jay Lethal, Silas Young and Sha Samuels in a four way - there were a lot of Attitude Era fans in attendance who were into everything Bully Ray did here. Despite the show taking place in Revolution Pro's venue, there wasn't a massive reaction for Samuels. Lethal did the Wassup spot with Bully to a big pop, and Bully won with his diving press onto Samuels. Afterwards, Bully told Lethal that while ECW was his company, ROH is Lethal's.

5: Dalton Castle & The Boys defeated Delirious, Jushin Thunder Liger & Mistico to retain the ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championship - the fans were into everything Castle and Liger did, including Liger temporarily stealing the Boys from Castle. After some big dives from everyone, Castle pinned Delirious with the Bangarang to retain the titles.

6: KUSHIDA defeated Titan to retain the ROH World Television Championship - this was the match of the night, with Titan stealing the show with his lucha transitions and big dives, including a reverse swan dive to the outside where he slightly overshot KUSHIDA and ended up right by me in the front row. There were some very creative ways for KUSHIDA to get Titan in the Hoverboard Lock, but KUSHIDA eventually retained with Back to the Future. Titan got a standing ovation after the match from the vast majority of people who had never seen him wrestle before.

7: Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, EVIL, Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA & Tetsuya Naito) defeated Bullet Club (Cody, Hangman Page, Marty Scurll & The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson)) - a super fun and very hot ten man tag team main event with all the trademark spots thrown in. All of the Bullet Club did simultaneous Figure Four Leglocks as a tribute to Ric Flair as he currently undergoes hospital treatment. The Bullet Club all missed moonsaults on BUSHI, building up to Scurll, who never does them, hitting one on him, but winding Scurll in the process. The Young Bucks took Daryl from the commentary table and threatened to Superkick him, and then Scurll went to put the Chicken Wing on him, but Takahashi rescued him. However, the Bucks superkicked Takahashi, and then hit the Meltzer Driver on poor Daryl! In the aftermath, BUSHI spewed mist in Hangman Page's eyes, and Naito hit Destino on him for the win.

After the match, Cody dedicated the match to Flair, and Scurll announced his ambition for Ring of Honor to do a show at Wembley Arena in the future. The Bullet Club all spent a lot of time with the ringside fans after the show, giving them their money's worth for the expensive ringside tickets.
