GFW held the first day of tapings following Slammiversary last night at Universal Orlando in Florida. The big notes coming out of the show were:
*The show opened up with a post-Slammiversary celebration for Alberto el Patron, who was with his father Dos Caras and his brother Hijo del Dos Caras which Lashley crashed and demanded a rematch. That was set up as the main event of the episode.
*That main event ended when Lashley was attacked by LAX as Patron was unconscious, so Lashley won via DQ. Konnan declared that Patron was their Captain and LAX grabbed and carried the prone Alberto out. The idea here is that Alberto didn't really join and LAX pretty much kidnapped him, so it looks like we are seeing Alberto vs. LAX in some form.
*Gail Kim announced that she will be retiring at the end of the year and wants to be champion one more time, so they are doing a retirement tour storyline.
*They officially announced the World Super X Cup with ACH, Andrew Everett, Desmond Xavier, Idris Abraham, Drago, Davey Richards, Sammy Guevara and Taiji Ishimori in the tournament. On the taping, Xavier defeated Abraham and ACH defeated Everett. There will be additional tournament matches taped in the days to come. The promotion initially was going to tape more last night, but cut three matches from their schedule over the course of the day.
*There was an angle where Trevor Lee attacked and laid out Sonjay Dutt after he had pinned Caleb Konley. Lee stole the X-Division championship and Dutt wanted to know where it was after he regained consciousness.
*Impact filmed an angle where Chris Adonis called out the "Swole Mates" for reasons unknown to the audience. They had a pose-off. The "Swole Mates" are scheduled to appear on every episode of Impact Wrestling through 7/20 to build to their Pop TV special that night.
*Eddie Edwards & Veterans of War & the returning Grado defeated Eli Drake & Chris Adonis & Fallah Bahh and Mario Bokara. There was an angle after where Joseph Park, who is already back, comes out with something in his hand and tells him he has to leave. Grado was upset and they left together. Grado had been gone because the company had been waiting for his visa to be renewed (for the same reason, Rockstar Spud isn't at the tapings) so it may be they are doing a send-up of that situation.
*Lucha libre minis were brought in as Octagoncito defeated Demus 3:16.
*There was also a tag match with Drago and Taiji Ishimori defeating Davey Richards and Sammy Guevara.
* Unified Women's champion Sienna defeated Rebel.
*Matt Sydal defeated Braxton Sutter.
